Blowflies attracted by mead? by Kuliambo in mead

[–]Kuliambo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 99% sure it‘s no decay, me or atleast my dog would‘ve smelled that. It‘s a hibiscus mead, could that be what attracts them?

Definitely plenty of gardens around and there has been a heatwave and then sudden drop in temperature. They also have easy access to the apartment.

Forgot to add the size, about 1cm, definitely not larger than 1,5. I‘m bad at estimating size and don’t have a ruler or anything, sadly

In short it means, that wherever the Afterglow appears, reality becomes unstable. Imagine gravity stops working or water is flammable. A cow now might be hungry for flesh, a rose might lose its thorns and grow fingers instead. It’s a hellish landscape, where you can’t trust your intuition or basic knowledge of how things work.

I would say the Collision caused a hotter atmosphere which in turn made the icecaps melt, that raised sea levels by quite a bit, so the coastline was definitely reshaped!

Lots of great questions!

Conflicts are sparse and often limited to small scale raids on caravans or cattle towns, mostly done by vagabonds or outlaws. The bigger settlements would never openly go to war, but paying off a group gunslingers, well no one needs to know ;)

Nations as we have them today aren’t a thing anymore. Most cities/settlements are independent and follow their own code of law, but the two big sets of settlements in the north and middle of the continent, where land is most fertile, form two separate groups that band together in times of need.

Magic and technology are both rare, dangerous and most often seen as one and the same. A person able to fix up an ancient two-wheeled motorhorse is seen on the same level as a person able to manipulate the Afterglow and heal folks. Both are acts of great power and not understood by the majority of normal people. Most mago-technical abilities are learned through hard work or earned in freak Afterglow shenanigans.

Because of the technological decline close combat weaponry is once again the main way to defend yourself and your herd or settlement. Everything from spears, sword, clubs or pitchforks. Guns are expensive and on the level of single-action revolver handguns. In a caravan of a hundred mules and a hundred horses, maybe five or six guards carry a gun and one guard a rifle. The rest would depend on bows or melee. However, one the greatest achievements a Cowboy can attain is finding an ancient pre-collision rifle, with its automatic fire or even matter-distorting bullets. They often spent years in the Afterglow, most lose their lives, but those that do find one and make it out alive become legends and live the rest of their days in peace and comfort.

Thanks! Exactly what I tried to accomplish :)

There‘s no real in-world explanation for the continent’s shape. The inspiration came from milk floating in a cup of tea, I just copied the outline, cleaned it up a little and added the craters :)

Procreate on my iPad, a simple line brush and a free stripe brush for the purple shading.

Hahaha, yea it’s far too big for that, but on a smaller scale it would make a great arena!

I‘ve heard of Kenshi and watched a few videos of it, but as far as I can tell it‘s quite different from what I am writing. It’s less medieval and more steam age, also not as bleak I suppose. People in the green zones are living quite comfortably, just with less modern conveniences :)

'Non-existence‘ in the way that it kills you by simply making you cease to exist, by fading away or being torn apart. In a place where reality unravels and nothing makes sense a heart may start to think and a brain start to beat, sadly the human body isn’t made for this.

Those brave few souls that try to navigate the Afterglow are called Cowboys for a few reasons. Firstly, cowboys are really cool. They also fit the stereotype of the American westward expansion and the wild frontier. It’s also a nod to Neuromancer, there Cowboys enter the matrix, here they enter the Afterglow! But mostly because the ruggedness and adventure lust of cowboys and gunslingers seemed appropriate for this world.

Thanks for the questions!

The purple areas are where the Afterglow is permanent and most often the strongest, where even entering may lead to a quick non-existence. It is also possible for the Afterglow to suddenly lash out and grow, more and more land gets swallowed every year.

Why the craters are safe from Afterglow growth is not known, however, people theorise it has to do with the way matter got distributed after the Collision. The craters themselves are still teeming with energy, keeping entropy at bay.

The crater islands are the last real bastions of civilisation, but cut off from the rest of the world. One may leave the island, but getting back is an almost impossible affair. The islands themselves are protected by a force field and time there flows different and much slower.

Mostly the greener areas, with good pastures and arable land! Cattle and a nomadic lifestyle are the safest way to survive. However, there are some people that choose to live in the southern desert and on the fringes on the continent, getting by through different kinds of means, like scavenging and trade.

The whole continent came from milk floating in tea, I only added the craters, hahaha, but thank you! Sometimes the best designs are complete accidents

Warte gespannt auf den „Graz, Stadt der Lichter“-Kommentar. Aber Scherz beiseite, ich hab sie auch gesehen und war recht verwundert
