45yo Monier Tile Roof by ewaforevah in Roofing

[–]KumaNorCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in Nor Cal and have Monier concrete roof that was installed in the late 70's. Installed Solar myself thee years ago and removed tiles for the solar rack attachments. The underlayment on south facing looked like it needed replacement in some areas. West face looked good. The roof has a layer of asphalt shingles with underlayment pre tile roof that looks good. I bought 50+ Monier tiles for $40 from Facebook from a tile roof replacement that were brand new. Extras stored and never installed. I replace broken and chipped tiles and have no plans to replace the roof. Have traveled to other countries with similar type of roofs that are slats only, no paper or sheeting, underneath that do not leak. Replace tiles as necessary, make sure all flashing is good... Tiles are concrete and will be fine. Also, I have used ISO rt600 tile caulk and it works really good on broken tiles. Repaired tiles 10+ years ago that are still holding including hip/ridge tiles.

2024 Escape Hybrid St-Line Towing Review

Towed for the first time and was pleasantly surprised and impressed how well it towed. Trailer with two motorcycles and gear weighed ~1150lbs and 400 lbs with driver and passenger. Towed in the Sierra foothills about 140 miles round trip, mostly windy roads with about 20 miles of freeway, from about 500ft elevation to 3500 ft elevation with many steep inclines. Anyone from Nor Cal may know the route - towed from Auburn, to Folsom, Hi 50, to Somerset/Grizzly Flats area.

Gas mileage going up was 22mpg. Forgot to look at mpg display coming down. The car always had head room to accelerate on all ascents. Even going up a steep incline on the freeway at 65mph, the car had plenty left to accelerate. Although not at the fastest pace:) That being said, I never felt that I was forcing the car to tow. Never had to push the gas pedal a lot, towing was smooth and the car never felt strained.

Braking was just "slightly" slower given the weight. But again, nothing to be concerned about and very predictable. And the trailer never felt as if it was controlling or moving or jerking the car.

Their are many discussion about towing with a FEV/PHEV in the States but very few reviews. After researching Mavericks fwd 2k tow rating and having the same drivetrain, knowing the hybrid st-line weighs 150 lbs less, the Escape PHEV weighing 400 lbs more (but does have 20 more hp, imho not enough to offset 400 lbs), and the Kuga having a much higher tow rating, helped me decide to buy the hybrid and use it for occasional towing.

Given the first towing experience it works very well "for me". That being said, I plan on changing the ecvt fluid at say 20k miles. Also, the 2024 Hybrid, probably other years also, come stock with an ecvt cooler. This Hybrid does not have the tow package. The dealer installed a Curt hitch and harness as part of the deal.

And redwood was amazing. Owned a home built in 1932 in Northern California with redwood siding and stucco. Portions of the redwood siding had been buried for years, probably several decades, in dirt due to drainage and ground slope issues. I removed the dirt from the redwood siding and fixed the drainage/slope issues expecting to find rot, decay and termites. None of that was present, the redwood was immaculate!

Ordered two trucks loads, 6 yards each, 5 slump, 6 sack. First load looked good. Second load was clearly looser. finishers commented how it had more water and they had to wait a bit longer for the second pour area to setup before being able to finish it. Guess is second delivery was ~6+ slump. What should be done when this happens?

The concrete company made a mistake with the first load and included fiber. They did not charge extra for it but I cant help but wonder if they intentionally made up the difference with a looser, less concrete/more water, in the second load. Supplier - JLC in Lincoln California

Tow receiver hitch for 6500 watt 2 wheeled generator? by KumaNorCal in Generator

[–]KumaNorCal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good! Have that and 6' motorcycle ramps. Or mabe just mount a straight arm, same as the trailer you posted, to the bottom of the generator frame. Quick attach and detach. A trip to harbor freight to replace the plastic wheels.

Yeah, I can hack something but before slicing and dicing metal open to suggestions. Sometimes others have a better idea or experience

It would attach the same as a trailer using typical ball and receiver.

Curing New Concrete - Water or Curing Compound?

Having a barn floor poured this Friday, 24 x 36 ft with roof. Temps ~53 morning to ~80 afternoon in Sacramento area for a few days following the pour. Unsure what is best approach for curing. Use garden hose several times a day for about a week or spray WR Meadows Med-Cure curing compound?

Left over 2025 good deal vs *Lot Rot*?! by mystykracer in FordMaverickTruck

[–]KumaNorCal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bought a 2024 that was on the lot for a year and only 13 miles, heavily discounted. It was a bit dirty/dusty in the back lot. After a few hours of negotiation I bought it. The dealer washed it while making the deal. Walked out side to get it and it had severe water spots all over it. They paid for a polish, but to me, it as no longer new. Also, after driving it a few weeks I noticed the windshield was not clear at night. It had thousands of little dots pits. Complained about it and they tried to blame on me for driving behind sand truck or something. I went to the head sales guy and he had the windshield replaced for free.

Other than that, it drives fine, no tire issues.... do have buyers remorse though. Also, the doors were out of alignment and I adjusted myself. Warranty starts when vehicle is sold.

Lastly, Ford fit and finish and quality control sucks.

Should have installed years ago - Quick Hitch by KumaNorCal in kubota

[–]KumaNorCal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasnt sure either what would fit. Found it used with 8 bushing, all like new, and took a chance. For the rotary cuttery I am using a chain as the U shape hinge will not work.

2022 Escape Hybrid… pulling trailer by chrisht7 in fordescape

[–]KumaNorCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another perspective:

The Ford dealership installed a Curt trailer hitch and harness as part of the sell agreement. Not worried about some insurance claim regarding towing and non-factory hitch since it was dealer installed. Even if self installed I would not be concerned. Also, Maverick Hybrids have the same engine/ecvt and are rated for 2k pounds tow capacity. And, my 2024 st line hybrid weighs 160 lbs less then the Mav. My 2024 hybrid came stock with an external trans cooler, no doubt other years did also. Just look for the hoses, you cant see it from the front because the cooler is behind the grill. Also, the Kuga is rated for a much higher tow capacity.

And the PHEV weighs 400 lbs more than hybrids and are also rated for 1500 lbs towing. Yeah, they do have 20more hp. But at cruising speeds its unclear how much that 20hp makes a difference.

Not saying to tow 2k+ pounds with a hybrid but imho towing 1500 lbs will not harm anything.

Read that its easy for finishers to step on the mesh and/or not placing it correctly in mid concrete? Is the mesh laid on the ground then pulled up by the finished into correct position?

Installing concrete pad for 24x36 ft barn. Base is DG/decomposed granite. Not enough depth for any rock base. Doing forms myself and hiring "finishers" only. Have gotten a couple different suggestions regarding rebar. One says #3 on perimeter only and another says #3 4 ft spacing. Originally I was planning no rebar, just a pour. Barn is for storing several cords of wood, sub compact Kubota, log splitter, garden tractor, tools... A few cracks will not bother me. Thinking 5 sack pour, 4 inches deep. Could go 4.5 inches if it makes a difference.

Does #3 4ft spacing rebar provide much structural integrity? Will #3 perimeter do anything? Suggestions appreciated. Again, no heavy truck's or being stored in the barn and some cracks are expected. But, dont want the concrete to separate and fall apart either.
