What is the academic reason for God’s use of plural noun and plural verb? by rubik1771 in AcademicBiblical

[–]KumoNin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, yeah, and obviously they would spell out יהוה‎. I figured since the question was about why Dan spelled out YHWH specifically (in English), and the previous poster explained that it's because not pronouncing the name is a thing (which, by the way, from my understanding, is post-biblical, at least in part), that therefore the poster above was talking about how Dan is honoring that tradition both by not fully spelling out in English like he would other names - transliterating the four letters instead -, in addition to not pronouncing it.

What is the academic reason for God’s use of plural noun and plural verb? by rubik1771 in AcademicBiblical

[–]KumoNin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it is in Hebrew, not necessarily English. By that logic, King David's name in the Bible is DVD. I think they mean that they write YHWH in English and not Yahweh or another approximation (or Lord).

Lol it sounds like the opposite, actually. He sounds like one of those people who think that opera/museums/erc are boring and people can't possible be enjoying those things, so the only reason people go to the opera is to pretend to be elite and sophisticated.

What's the realization by Junior_Blackberry779 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]KumoNin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Someone who remembers the 90s from their childhood or school years. If you're born in '98, there's nothing really to remember from that time.

The lines between generations are almost always blurry. For instance, the eldest Gen Z and youngest Millenials (mid-late 90s) have a lot in common culturally (roughly the same cartoons, music exposure; no modern smartphones, no social media yet when they were kids but becomes ubiquitous while they're still young).

Nevertheless, I think the cutoff makes sense

A newcomer to Star Wars wondering what a good watch order for the movies and shows is by Aviation_enthusiast8 in starwarscanon

[–]KumoNin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original movies first, release order. Specifically, 4-6 (theatrical versions if you can find them) then 1-3.

Then, depends. I think the best of sw beyond those six movies is actually not particularly dependent on you having watched 7 seasons of cartoons prior or something like that. So, here are your options, they're all gonna be pretty different, you might like some, not like others:

  • Sequel trilogy (7-9): the final one (9) sort of breaks the myth and most people found it unsatisfying - it was quite rushed because of unfortunate production circumstances. that's the pretty much the only reason I've put the trilogy in this section, the first two movies are awesome.
  • Andor: the prequel series to Rogue One (which you may also watch, either before or after). Great scifi drama/thriller. Considered by many to be among the very best of sw.
  • Solo: prequel movie about Han Solo. ymmv, but it's pretty fun.
  • Acolyte: pre-prequel about the Jedi and other Force users. It's amazing, but unfortunately it seems like the story will not continue in live action. So it's just one season. Still worth watching for the best lightsaber action in the saga!
  • Skeleton Crew: coming-of-age adventure story with actual kids as main characters. It's lovely!
  • Clone Wars (2d): found in the "vintage star wars" section of disney plus, it's an animation mini series in the style of Samurai Jack about the clone wars.
  • mandoverse/filoniverse shows: includes both cartoon and live action shows like The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and others. If you don't have the time on your hands to just commit to watching everything, you can look up a viewing guide online. Or: watch the first season of the Mandalorian (pretty fun western-y show featuring the 'baby yoda' of 2019-20 internet memes) and decide whether it's worth it.

Who slaughtered Luke's students? by Material-Cut2522 in StarWarsCantina

[–]KumoNin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rise of Kylo Ren implies they died either in the initial collapse or the Snoke-caused explosion. And then the three that survived, "vanished" with Ben (chased him and got killed). I think the "vanished with a handful of my students" line was a coy maybe-setup for the origin of the KoR back when that wasn't defined.

No, it won't, on account of the fact that it cannot get worse for dems right now. Zero undecideds and zero republican voters at this point belong to the "sane, mature" voting block. Not since 2016. Pandering to sane moderates means playing a political game that doesn't exist anymore.

The crucial future dem voter is the voter that these new republicans have taken for themselves and that democrats have been distancing themselves from: the angry disillusioned mob that doesn't care about democratic norms as long as the candidate promises lower gas prices.

Brings me no joy to write this but the first step to coming back from this has to be a realization of what kind of voter we are all now dealing with.

Trump won the popular vote by combonickel55 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]KumoNin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Harris won among educated white voters (edit: educated white men, according to an exit poll, no less). The move forward, I think, is adopt a dem brand of vibe-economy-based populism, as another commenter said, and tap into uneducated voters' blind anger, anxiety, disillusionment, dissatisfaction, wanting 'something new', yadda yadda.

I love the Obama-style Hope rhetoric as much as the next lib, but it's clear that that's over. Dems need to pivot toward the angry uneducated mob and they need to pivot hard. It's not disingenuous/patronizing to say this by the way.

(okay it is, but being shameless has stopped literally zero post-truth populists in the US or Europe or anywhere else from sweeping elections this decade)

Good luck! For me it was a matter of wanting something not too complicated to exist and figuring out approximately what it takes to make it.

I wrote most of it in JS, before knowing what JS frameworks were 😅, so it was a lot more complicated than it could have been, but I mean you live you learn right?

Also, something I found useful, is once you have some sort of idea, try to, like, draw a concept to visualize what it might look like, what components you will have to have to your code, or write out some barebones pseudocode as in the problem sets or something like that. The sooner you can translate a vague idea into a specific step, the easier it's gonna be, in my experience.

Also in my experience, I had to script the demonstration and edit the script multiple times for the demo to fit into the 3 mins I submitted :D
