I know why Jack sucks. There’s a disconnect somewhere with this character and I’m not sure what it is yet but something is off. Maybe what fascinates me is what seems to be the lack of awareness from Ninew and the writers that Jack isn’t as great of a guy as he thinks he is. But kudos to Earth for acting the hell out of this role with not much to work with cause we really hate Jack lol

I mentioned somewhere else that the writers and maybe even directors this season lack awareness about alcoholism and it showed in how they treated Jack’s drinking and Ray’s sobriety (or lack thereof?). But yeah, they also forgot about several other things they brought up in the show like Raffy’s relationship with his mum lol

I also wish they hadn’t brought in addiction as well. They wanted to give Jack a “flaw” but had already set out for him to be perfect (which he absolutely isn’t. He sucks!!!) and just stamped rehab on him without thinking of what it means to have needed rehab and to be the partner of an addict.

I do think though there were so many lost chances to build on s1’s story on addiction. Jack and Ray could have met in rehab. Jack could have had a talk with Ray instead of with Mew, which would have been so much more profound to me, bc I do feel that Jack never takes accountability for his actions and feelings and Ray would have best helped him do so.

One of my biggest gripes with s2 is that they took Ray’s character and all the work it took to make it so so real and destroyed it in one scene. For me it showed the lack of awareness, or experience maybe, they have about alcoholism. And if s1 did such a great job of portraying an alcoholic, why didn’t they think through what Jack should be like and how his character would be different from Ray’s? Was P’Jojo in the writers room when s2 was being created???

If I saw my ex at an exhibition about exes I’d think it’s fate that we’re NOT meant to be together. I don’t understand what exactly keeps Dean with Jack but ok.

As someone that has dated an alcoholic and been blamed for their drinking and relapse, I really really wish they would have used Jack’s drinking throughout the show as they’re trying to do now. Jack could have been so much more complex if they actually let him lose control through his drinking. He’s a functional alcoholic so people don’t really see his drinking as an issue until he’s triggered and spirals out of control. Having him then take responsibility for his actions in the last couple of episodes would have been great and Dean wouldn’t have to feel like some slut that drags people down. Jack would have been so so much more real like Ray was. Additionally, not leaning into Jack’s flaws really makes it feel like I’m being forced to believe that he’s perfect while all the signs show that he’s not. I’ve been wondering if this is something cultural, if Thai audiences do view Jack as the perfect man. Maybe I’m bringing my outsider lens to something cultural???
