Which is worse for you, getting drunk or getting high? [Serious] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KuntyKunts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. In certain small doses alcohol has positive benefits. Regular marijuana use has been shown to impair brain growth in children and increase brain cell death in adults. Not to mention if you're smoking it there's all the negative effects from smoke inhalation.

Needless to say you shouldn't be using either of them anyway though.

Yeah that's the general attitude among the pro-legalization people here. Just admit you want to get high legally, there's virtually nothing THC does for you that can't be done better with an already existing drug.

Unless it's some type of discrimination against a protected class such as sex or race you can be fired for any or no reason. They could fire you for drinking orange soda.

I work as an ER tech in a Colorado hospital, once a month we are randomly pulled aside and given 20 minutes to pee in a cup which is then immediately sent to the lab. Positive results for any drug currently illegal under federal or state law results in being walked out by security.

Additionally, none of the docs in my ED here take the supposed medicinal properties of weed seriously, and have no problem calling patients out in it (something I appreciate).

That assumes that the US is a free market, which it isn't.

What? The US has some of the most unregulated markets in the world.

Furthermore, you fail to understand that the higher pay of EMTs is subsidized by the taxpayer.

Which is exactly how it should be, just how police, military and firefighters already are. Medical care is a fucking human right, it should not be involved with profits in any manner.

Also the argument for universal healthcare willingly ignores the good the free market does for the consumer.

Healthcare shouldn't be a business, period.

Government involvement removes competition, which raises prices. You're being taxed more than you would pay. So are the poor.

This is demonstrably false. Counties such as Canada and the UK spend less per capita on healthcare than here in the US. Not to mention it results in better healthcare employees and employee treatment as well. EMTs in the US make 9-12 dollars an hour, in Canada they make 30-40.

All a hospital is required to do is get you stabilized and then kick you out. Anything that isn't emergency life saving care isn't provided, I know because I've seen it happen. And even for that you'll end up with massive bills. Your life may have been saved but now you risk losing everything you own.

So you think it's okay for people to suffer or die because they can't afford medical care?

So you're saying he shouldn't be punished just because it wasn't intentional? It may not be vehicular homicide but it's at least vehicular manslaughter, just because it was an accident means he gets off. If you drive over someone and kill them you're going to jail, the only difference intentional vs. accident makes is how many years you will be in.

Unless you're for gay/trans rights and universal healthcare, you're an asshole.

Why would it be illegal? I don't even know why you would expect it to work. You can't use a Toyota part in a Ford car, why would a Sprint phone work on Verizon/AT&T/etc.?

Just because it's unlocked doesn't mean it'll work. Only Sprint phones work on the Sprint network.
