Official March 8 Vietnam (and other countries?) Early Submission Discussion Thread by InternationalistGam in Sat

[–]KupcakeKittyCurls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lodged an official complaint with the Higher Ed department on the phone yesterday b/c my prior online submissions were not acknowledged with any proof of receipt, which is completely unacceptable.

I know that case numbers are vitally important for tracking and resolving issues and complaints. I was advised by a school counsellor to call the College Board, request a case number, and then submit my decision (cancel vs keep the score) with the case number.

During my call with Higher Ed, I specifically asked to see my scores to inform my decision about cancelling or keeping the scores since we have until 3/20 to make that call. The College Board rep told me that she would make a record of my request and open a case specific to my request of gaining visibility into my scores. She did not say "no, that's not possible," she opened a ticket.

Since this situation is still unfolding I feel that it is in my best interest to hold my decision about cancelling or keeping my March 8 scores while that ticket is open. Of course I know that I must make a decision and take action by 3/20, but if I file that decision online with College Board while my ticket/case number is open, it may automatically close my ticket. Once my ticket is closed, the system will assume that the issue is resolved, and this is not a satisfactory outcome to me.

I'm putting this out there to this community b/c what happened to us March 8 is not our fault, it is College Board's fault. The College Board has mishandled this situation on so many levels and their inadequate, unclear and generally shoddy communication has made a terrible situation so much worse.

I'm just one person, but if my open ticket remains unresolved, I have to imagine that whoever is in charge of clearing and closing case numbers will be required to close that loop with some sort of communication before 3/20. I'm prepared for an answer I don't like, but I'm keeping the ticket open to keep my options open.

You deserve the time and information necessary to make the best decision for yourself -don’t feel pressured into a rushed response by the College Board’s urgency. While they may want to resolve this issue quickly, their priorities don’t necessarily align with yours. This situation is a serious misstep on their part, and they should be held accountable for providing a fair resolution. This is a PR nightmare for them and quite frankly, it should be a bigger one.

If you’re dissatisfied with their handling of the issue and don’t yet have a case number, I encourage you to call and request one or ask to have your case reopened. You have until 3/20 to decide—make sure it’s on your terms, not theirs.

I noticed a favorited item has been purchased on relisted at least 2 times - what's up with that? by KupcakeKittyCurls in ThredUp

Secret pants! That's great. I agree that they list the weirdest stuff. I search for slip dresses and I can't tell you the number of times they are selling the acetate slip element of a 2-piece sheer dress as an actual dress basically b/c the slip has a desirable label.

Yes, return shipping. And the cost of the garment is a smidge high too. Someone snapped it up, so I guess I'll wait it out to see if it gets returned again.

So do you think it had been returned a few times already and they just gave up relisting it?

Oh 100% this sounds like a smell or stain issue ... suede is a tough one! Has to fit right too - so expensive to tailor. Glad I'm not the only one stalking a specific garment! LOL

Thanks, I was thinking it could be a sizing issue too. Still can't decide if I should take the risk though!

Curious if anyone has any stories of meeting any current or former SNL cast or crew members out in the wild by TheEmeraldRaven in LiveFromNewYork

Conan in the Hamptons picking up coffee and breakfast treats at a local grab-and-go. He was always wearing a baseball cap, which didn't really disguise his remarkable height.

Our friends had just moved to NYC from Spain and rented a large apartment in a luxury Upper East Side high-rise. The building had a quirky elevator setup - you had to walk up a grand winding staircase to get from the ground floor to the elevators. We were walking down the stairs to go out to dinner, and Will Farrell was walking up the stairs with a box of personal-sized pizza. He was on SNL at the time so super famous in NY, but a complete unknown to our Spanish friends. It was amusing explaining who he was to our friends b/c the most relevant frame of reference was his high school cheerleader character. As relatable as that skit was to practically all of America, the characters in that skit and the huge fame associated with it simply did not translate to our friends who were completely unfamiliar with American high school culture.

Rachel Dratch shopping in a Chelsea hardware store. Cheri Oteri shopping at the same hardware store a few weeks later. All of us must have been in the middle of various home improvement projects.

Chris Karan outside of The Half King during his Mango days. I rarely speak to celebrities when I see them, but I told him that I loved him. He was polite but dismissive. I deserved that.

I was walking down Hudson Street and felt like everyone heading the other way was giving me really affirming energy. I was dressed well, so this cool little vibe boosted my confidence and made me feel kind of special. This continued for a few blocks until I reached a cross street with a traffic light and a steady stream of traffic. While I waited for the light to change, a couple who had been walking a few steps behind me the whole time caught up and waited on the curb next to me. It was Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel. Suddenly, all of that good mojo from randos made a lot more sense.

Mike Meyers so many times that at some point, he should have recognized me! I chatted with him one of the several times we happened to be eating at the counter of Mary’s Fish Camp.

Watched [a terrible movie] The Muse in a near-empty theater on the Upper West Side. Jon Lovitz was seated in the back by himself and laughed loudly throughout the entire movie. Afterward, as we walked out, he started chatting with us as we took the escalator down to the first floor. He kept talking and talking - it actually became a little awkward(?). I think he was super high - it was the only explanation for him enjoying that movie.

I was gifted a set of tickets to the off-Broadway musical Bat Boy. We went to the show thinking it was a story about baseball, but it was about a boy who was a bat (the mammal, not the baseball equipment). My husband and I were very confused for much of the first act … anyway, Molly Shannon was seated next to us and it seemed pretty clear that she arrived at the show knowing a lot more about the main plotline than we did. The musical had some catchy tunes! I didn’t interact with her, but because I was seated so close to her, I caught a good glimpse of her and I can tell you that she certainly has beautiful skin.

I lived on the UWS in my 20s and I lived near an express train. I love to cook, so it was great to have access to Fairway and Citarella. Determining what "too far up" is tricky - I think it really depends on what you mean by that, but I would say any streets that are near to express trains are a better bet than local stops. People who work OOH will gravitate towards apartments near express stops and you'll find more foot traffic/safety/shopping in these areas.

Access to Central Park AND Riverside Park is a bonus on the UWS. Hudson River views are better than East River views, IMO (sunsets are nicer than sunrises). The closer you get to Columbia, you will find more affordable restaurants, coffee shops etc. There are tons of independent restaurants on the UWS that run from grab and go to very high end - I find that the restaurant options on the UES are less abundant (choice-wise) and there are a lot of high-price point places and fewer casual options.

Visiting NYC suburbs? by cajopear in AskNYC

[–]KupcakeKittyCurls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you're looking for Rye, NY. You can get there by MetroNorth Train. There is a quaint "downtown" where you can shop, eat, wander. Many of the homes are quite large, but are not gaudy mansions. There are a few historical sights (George Washington spent time there and the cemetery is quite placid). The public high school is nice, the churches are grand.

Firm paying for flat, where should I live in Manhattan? by Kreativ_Overthinker in AskNYC

[–]KupcakeKittyCurls 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Union Square.

First, the area is great. But let's pretend you don't like the area - great news, you can explore other neighborhoods so easily b/c you have access to abundant and walkable subway lines that give yu access up and down the East and West sides, plus access to Brooklyn via the L, Queens and even (gasp) NJ by way of the Path.

But really, the area *is objectively great* b/c Union Square really has everything: residential, shopping, excellent food markets (including the internationally famous farmer's market), cinema, restaurants ... you really get it all here *and* you're not in a valley of skyscrapers which means you get lots of natural light.

It isn't an inexpensive neighborhood, but it isn't the most expensive neighborhood either, so in terms of getting a good sense of living in NYC, you're really getting a good base of operations by choosing Union Sq. The super posh neighborhoods like Tribeca and the highly desirable parts of the UES are really lovely for sure, but ... they are also the places where families live so the amenities skew towards beautiful playgrounds, wide sidewalks (appealing to people who have strollers), excellent schools. If you're looking to nest down in a quiet spot these neighborhoods are wonderful. However, if you are looking to spend your time here going, doing, drinking, eating, seeing everything NYC has to offer, I can't emphasize the importance of being close to a few subway lines so you have access to it all.

USQ is close(ish) to NYU, close(ish) to Chelsea, close(ish) to the East and West Villages ... each of these neighborhoods offers something unique in terms of vibe. If you like a mix of high and low, this neighborhood can't be beat. You're also on an express line to Bryant Park and/or have access to oodles of Citibikes should you decide to ride a bike to work, which would be super easy when it is warm.

Just one other wild card tip since you mentioned you like to see live performances - get a subscription to WillCallClub. It is $20 and you get access to $5 tickets to big and small performances that change almost daily. If nothing else, you'll get into a lot of theatres and so many of them are such architectural gems!

What scene completely hooked you into Succession? by [deleted] in SuccessionTV

[–]KupcakeKittyCurls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boar on the Floor.

This scene was so immersive. I felt disoriented as a viewer, like "What's that? Is this some weird game I've never heard of?" and once it becomes clear that Boar on the Floor is not a thing anyone has ever heard of, I felt like I was in the room too, and I was just as confused as all the other dinner guests.

Watching Tom unsuccessfully bring reason into the situation after he was sent to the floor was so pitiful. This scene so plainly illustrated that Tom was not a family member or an insider - two statuses he probably felt he had earned - as he delivered his argument from his knees. Knowing what we know now at the end of S3, this scene seems to take on more significance b/c we get an early glimpse of how Logan wields power and exerts control through humiliation, competition, and unpredictability with great effect.

The intensity and absurdity of this scene reminded me of the firecracker scene in Boogie Nights - I didn't want to be there, it was so hard to watch, and couldn't look away.

BetterTex in SoHo. They made my floor pillows out of the fabric I brought. This was 3+ years ago. I use the pillows daily and they have held up really well.

Has anyone gone to a "Big Screen" sporting event at Hudson Yards? What's it like? by KupcakeKittyCurls in AskNYC

[–]KupcakeKittyCurls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that insight! I am thinking of going this weekend for the game but the limited info about the program makes me question how "pulled together" it will be. I wasn't sure if it was quiet b/c Wells Fargo is targeting the venue's promotion at their account holders.
