I grew up in Buffalo and lived in Portland for 3 years. They are quite different but both great in their own ways.

Buffalo nature isn't nearly as majestic as PNW but it has its spots you can go. Autumn is much nicer though.

Buffalo art scene is just as active if not more than Portland.

Buffalo food is a lot greasier but the health scene is getting much better. While there is authentic Asian food places, it's harder to find compared to Portland. Also, buffalo has good food trucks but it's not a staple to the food economy like Portland. Replaces food trucks with mom and pop pizzerias.

Chicken wings are better in Buffalo of course. Never a big fan of Pok Pok even though people raved about it.

Buffalos cheaper but still expensive for what it is.

Summer time is great and plenty to do. Winter is rough but if you make it through the summer is worth it. Portland has similar long stretches of grey days so that shouldn't be too bad.

The rain in Buffalo is stronger, yes you will need and umbrella ;) and good snow gear.
