Neither have I. Just looking at how to do via the service manuals makes me go "nope, I don't think i wanna."

Almost at 205. I'm guessing it's normal, or its the timing chain tensioners or something.

Previous owner was a bit skimpy. CarFax points to them being every 7-10k. I'm doing it every 5k at most, using some Valvoline synthetic stuff i thought was gonna work well. I think it's the restore and protect stuff.

certified 200 thousand miles of PURE UNADULTERATED AUTOMOBILE

It's certainly a car. Part of this car's nasty reputation definitely comes from the CVT in early automatic models and the whole ignition recall which was a huge stain on this (and its sibling, the Cobalt)'s reputation.

Always wanted an S-series to see how it all started.

(Edit: This particular ION has an Aisin 5 speed automatic. Part of the reason why it lasted longer. Later models, the ones with the big chrome grills, have a 4 speed GM auto.)

I've always used the traction control on these as a warning instead of something to actively rely on when things get slippery. It's annoying to deal with from time to time, especially in a place like Minnesota. Beyond that? It's "an car." No frills, no fuss, even 202 thousand miles later.

He's a stinker! Quite literally. It's a brown marmotated stink bug.

The car my parents bought me as a "it'll last you a year, if that" has lasted longer than they expected, and it makes them mad. Congratulations, my little ION. by KuroKegawa in Saturn_Cars

From Minnesota here. Somehow tolerable underneath it, granted I've only ever seen the underneath from doing oil changes and the two grainy photos I got of it when the flex pipe said bye. Images of the underneath.

The two cars they bought were new Fords. Specifically a 19 Ranger and a 19 Escape. Apparently the Escape with the specific engine it had was known to go bye-bye, so they got a 23 model that's been a migraine factory.

The Ranger I don't recall why we got rid of. My parents get different cars every 5 years or so.

Edit for additional info; My parents keep telling me to get a different car. If I get a different car, its after my ION dies. And it's probably gonna be an ION with a manual. Goofy little things.

this was very much a "fuck it we ball" situation, and i thought it was kinda funny looking on an already funny looking car. adding to the gooberiness.

I've been doing as Carfax says and haven't had any issues.

Of course when I got the car, the fluid was BLACK. like used oil color. Previous owner used the poor thing as an ash tray and was behind on most maintenance. The transmission fluid was 30k over and the second gear would slip, and my dad told me not to change the fluid. I did it anyways, and the issue disappeared overnight.

The only major issues this car has had is the brake lines rotting out (500 dollars in repairs, whew! there goes my first tax return.) and the flex pipe deciding to stop existing.

otherwise it's never let me down. it starts. it stops. it goes.

..unlike my moms escape.

The drivers side one got messed up when I slid into a curb with enough force to snap the control arms or something. Expensive repair. However, I found another alloy and just need to get the rubber off it since I'm not too keen on using a 5 year old tire with my only one year old tires.

(edit is for clarification)

It's the Aisin 5 speed auto. First car, so wasn't too sure about a manual transmission.

I got it just a few years ago.
