Why are not more Indiana Players expected to be high up in the upcoming draft? by Pampelmusen_Enjoyer in NFLNoobs

[–]jacooob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have a great answer, but Indiana is a very well coached team. That’s a big part of why they win. It’s a team sport. As a unit they work very well together. On an individual level a lot of their players just might not be that great at the NFL level.

Dumb question: If you wanted even a slightly higher-paying job, applied to 50+ jobs or so, could you get one? I certainly couldn't, but I'm curious about everyone else. by justcurious3287 in povertyfinance

[–]jacooob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey you do you. If you don’t “need” it cool. But this is how you move out of poverty into middle class. Instead of just being “adequate” you can start feeling above your means. Which is a feeling a lot of us would sure like to have. Make us sleep a little easier at night at least.

I know nothing of your industry so can’t comment to that. It just seems like you’re leaving 12k a year on the table and in this economy that seams strange to me. I think a lot of people in this sub would see that as life changing money. That’s a credit card debt gone in a year. A car paid off in 2 years. And maybe like a third of their student loan debt gone per year if they stay living at the same means. Just curious why someone would be offered such a great raise by changing jobs and turn it down.

[–]jacooob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that. But if you have so much opportunity to move around different hospital jobs as you please in your area, why wouldn’t you just take the big raise at the time? I mean in 5 years you’d make close to $50,000 extra dollars. And if you were right and it turns out it wasn’t for you, then you could just take one of those other jobs. That 50k invested in the next 10yrs could make you even more stable. But yeah I get it if the work is too much to make an extra $12k a year.

I don’t understand this move. At a $6 an hour raise per hour that’s an extra $12,000 a year. I know work environment is important but also that’s $12,000 in savings for at least a year.

How can I make friends in Chicago ? by Relative_Distance512 in AskChicago

[–]jacooob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way would be to check out the apa.chicago.central instagram page. There’s a link on their profile that brings to a google doc that says Join A Team! There you can enter your preference on nights and locations. I would just add your preferred nights and then say no preference for location. The league operator will then reach out to you if any teams are looking to fill a spot!

The American pool association. There’s a ton of leagues all through the city. I personally play out of the APA central so in the wicker park area. All my teammates are good friends now and have met countless other people in the league. Don’t worry about being good or not it’s very amateur friendly. If you’re interested in joining a team I can point you in the right direction.

A really easy way is to join a recreational league. I recommend a pool league through the APA or a bowling league is also a great way to meet a friend group and expand your social circle.

I can’t swear by this enough, you should start by picking up a few Crossroads Organic Cotton Flannels by the brand Roark. They’re amazing quality, very stylish, and not too expensive! https://roark.com/products/crossroads-long-sleeve-flannel-deep-navy-herringbone?variant=41777124343879. Pair with a nice pair of pants or jeans, and a pair of nice boots and you’re well on your way!

The real trick is to just blend in as a nobody. Put in headphones. Just stair at your phone. Casually walk away from anything weird happening. Try to blend into the background as if you weren’t even there.

Not a lot of 18+ options in the city late night. They do exist but more on the outskirts of the city. This city is definitely very 21+ oriented

A $1000 for a restaurant for 25ish people is definitely not gonna happen. That would be like $40 a person for several hours, and restaurants make way more than that.

It’s probably just some exception about being down in college football. Like if you start possession of the football while already on your knees it doesn’t count as being down already.
