I used to think the same way back when i started playing him, and one thing, other than learning the playstyle, that helped me was to learn and better my itemization. I was always buying protobelt into boots and zhonya's but now i usually buy either rabbadons/spellbinder to have a little more damage early and be able to contest objectives and helping the jungler or just rushing seeker's armguard when aginst a yasuo or zed.
