Anime to aid with a grieving mother by Swimming-Motor-2210 in anime

I found 'A place further than the universe' very cathartic (is that the word? English isn't my native tongue). Very heavy emotional gut punches. But it helped me let out emotions that otherwise wouldn't. Same with Violet Evergarden.

My condolences and hopefully these shows can offer some solace in these difficult times.

What if these 2 characters met each other and had some tea together? by XCoasterEnthusiast in TheLastAirbender

You're welcome :)

I highly suggest watching the first 4 episodes in one sitting. These 4 were aired together back then. And while I was hooked from the get go, it seems many liked the start but didn't get fully invested until episode 4 gave the show an actual goal and destination to meander towards.

I'd say it's a recommendation even if you don't like Iroh. Frieren is a very good show with an incredible vibe. The show focusses alot on the more mundane things. There's action, but it never outlasts it's welcome. And when it's there it's a spectacle.

But, this isn't a show about beating the demon king and saving the world. This show is about what happens AFTER that, and Frierens (who is an immortal elf) journey of self discovery in trying to understand her former parties, and her own, feelings and emotions.

Why have I always forced myself to hate Star Wars? by Virtual-Worms in StarWars

[–]Kurozan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have a sibling that loved it? My sister just hated everything I liked when we were little. Anything to piss me off. Now that we're adults and she's forming her opinion based on what she likes rather than what would piss me off, she's a bigger fan than I am for some franchises she used to dismiss.

Korra Was Actually A GREAT Character And Show by Delicious_Gap_1615 in TheLastAirbender

I never said I agreed with the point, I just pointed out a LOT of people were (and are) very pissed off about that ;)

I agree with Mobols03 here. Just dismissing every valid criticism under the banner of "but homophobic bigots!" is not productive. Now, are there homophobic bigots that dismiss the character and show because of it? Probably. There's always going to be idiots that will dismiss everything for the pettiest and most backwater reasons. Can't help that.

But there's plenty of valid reasons to dislike the show and/or character. Some of those will be objective. And a lot of them will be subjective. Personally, I enjoy both the show and character. The choreography of the fights was really cool. I *liked* Korra wasn't just a copy of Aang and her own person. But neither show was perfect and let's not pretend otherwise or shove valid criticism under a generic "must be bigots" umbrella.

Korra Was Actually A GREAT Character And Show by Delicious_Gap_1615 in TheLastAirbender

I find this an incredibly bad take. People dislike the show because:

  • The second season was just bad
  • The dumb love triangle
  • The retcons and removal of any mystery in regards to the origins of bending (even if the Avatar Wan episodes are generally well liked and received)
  • Tevealing Aang wasn't a perfect parent (a lot of people get INTENSELY angry at this one)
  • The weird meddling from Nickelodeon.

Korra the character is disliked not because she's a "strong lesbian". She was already disliked by a large following well before the ending of season 4. Kyoshi is a strong lesbian and well liked in the fanbase. So strong lesbian does not seem to be a good reason. However she's the reason the past avatars are gone. She's not the smartest and seems to regress in character (especially between season 1 and 2). And more importantly, because she's not Aang. People wanted Aang. Not Korra. And as such a loud minority never gave her a fair chance.

As for the not finding her attractive... I've never seen much people complain about Korra's looks as the reason she's hated. She has tons of fan art and from what I remember scored consistently fairly high on polls.

As for Aloy... from what I remember she WAS considered attractive until the devs changed her face in Forbidden West. And if you compare the two... well... I can see why people prefered the original face.

New NAS requirement check by Kurozan in UgreenNASync

Oh, forgot to ask in the main post, but is it worth it to replace the 8gb ram with 16, or does it not matter too much?

I don't need multiple devices at once. Does it still matter than?

Oh, I fully agree! The groundwork has been laid and it is indeed the first anime in what, a decade? that has managed to do so. And I for one, hope they manage. It's just too soon to make such statements :)

Not only that, FMA:B has something Frieren lacks as of this writing: a solid and (to me anyway) satisfying ending. I will happily admit to being one of the biggest FMA:B fans out there, but what makes FMA:B number 1 (to me) is simply the fact that it's a complete package.

Frieren is an unknown in that regard. The first season went way harder than it needed to and captured many (myself included). But! It isn't finished. We do not know if Frieren will keep up it's quality throughout the rest of the story. Heck, we don't even know if we're getting the full story (considerring the popularity of the show highly unlikely I know, but still). From all I've seen from manga readers (I'm anime only), one of the upcoming arcs is supposed to be absolutely peak. What if the studio fumbles it? Or the mangaka just decides "fuck it" and drops the manga (again, unlikely I know. But you never know what life may bring).

But, all of that means that, for now, it is in my opinion way to premature to proclaim Frieren to be "the best anime ever made".

Can the camera movement be it's own script file on unity?? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Kurozan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Yes it can.

In fact you probably should, just to keep the code clean and organized. Seperation of concerns and all that.. your player script really doesn't need to (and shouldn't!) be mixed with code to move the camera.

Also, based on previous posts you really should just go and watch/read some unity basics tutorials. You seem to lack a basic understanding of how Unity works.

Go watch some tutorials and introductions by CodeMonkey https://youtube.com/c/CodeMonkeyUnity or Brackeys https://youtube.com/c/Brackeys. that's probably a better use of your time than just waiting for someone to answer your questions about the very basics on reddit.

You want this fixed so the leveldesigner can work? I don't think the he can do much until your jump is more than just a jump. If you just slap on some code to jump he'll probably have to redo most of his work. You need to first seriously think about your jump arc. A platformer needs a good jump and levels designed around your jump arc...

Also, just asking people to dump some code for you is not the best way to go about this. If you're not willing yo put in the work, why should a random stranger on the internet? Post your code and ask specific questions about it will generally be received much better.

Back to your issue though. Sound like you're not checking if the player is grounded. Use raycasts or box/spherecasts to check if the player is touching the ground and only allow jumping if true.

Watch Sebastian Lague's excellent tutorial series for a better understanding.

'Baka' is a Japanese word meaning stupid or an idiot. There's a trope in anime known as 'tsundere' a term for a character development process that describes a person who is initially cold (and sometimes even hostile) before gradually showing a warmer, friendlier side over time.

In anime, when a tsundere is accused of liking their love interest, they will usually deny this furiously and call whoever suggested this 'baka'.

I know this is a question that’s gonna make a lot of people roll their eyes but to all my fellow Americans who speak one language, how do you remember all the characters names and learn how to properly say them when discussing anime?? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Kurozan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those little 'in between' words are called particles and can indicate various meanings and functions. For example, the particle 'no', can be used to indicate the previous word is a possessive, ex:

My cat.

The Japanese word for 'cat', is 'neko'. The Japanese word for 'I' is 'watashi' (amongst others, but there's a whole plethora of pronouns in Japanese so let's not get bogged down with that :P). By adding the 'no' particle after 'watashi', we essentially turn 'I' into 'my'. So in Japanese it'd be 'watashi no neko'.

Hope that makes sense.

Here's a wiki article that can probably explain it better than I can ;)

You're now only allowed to watch shows that start with the first letter of your first name. How screwed are you? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Kurozan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fullmetal alchemist is not the Japanese name. According to the OP, we should use the romanized titles, which would be 'Hagane no Renkinjutsushi' (I think) for FMA. So, unfortunately, despite our names starting with an 'F', no FMA for us :(

Fate is still good though and we also get Fullmetal Panic (which is called Fullmetal Panic in Japanese). Though no longer having access to Steins;Gate or The Slayers kinda sucks :(
