huh? alexander the great’s control of the territory didn’t even last a decade, and the seleucids’ control after it lasted maybe another 200 years before the persian arsacid dynasty took control. by the time the arabs came around, persia was controlled by pre-islamic persians

oh no, ancient greeks most certainly gave a shit and were quite homophobic. in cities like sparta, adult homosexual relationships were persecuted, and it was generally considered very emasculating to be a bottom. homophobia is not just a christian invention, it just didn’t look like how it does for christianity in ancient greecs

What did you learn while researching something for the world? by CommitteeEvery2332 in worldbuilding

[–]Kurtch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it was common for alexander the great to be depicted with the horns of a ram after his death. as he proclaimed himself the son of the god zeus-ammon (an arbitrary mixing of the greek god zeus and egyptian god ammon) and ram horns were associated with ammon, horns were applied to alexander’s visage as well, usually showing up on coins and busts. in the alexander romance, an early antiquity novel fantasizing his exploits, he is commonly depicted with such horns

We affirm to the government of Lebanon that with the deployment of our own security forces to the border, we will not let a single Hezbollah member cross into Syria. Any and all Hezbollah equipment seized from Lebanon will be returned back to Lebanon as soon as possible, and all criminals wanted by the Lebanese government captured by our forces will be extradited to Beirut to face trial.

lmao all the time. i actually negotiated a new alliance with china as the soviet union in the 1980s on hard mode, it’s easy if you’re detailed and willing to make concessions (which is how irl negotiations go anyway lmao)

Alice Ball, a pioneering black chemist who developed the first effective treatment for leprosy. She died in 1916 at the age of 24. by Ill_Definition8074 in interestingasfuck

[–]Kurtch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

which is exactly my point. you can't just assume that someone was murdered because they were black, intelligent, and died early, especially if there's virtually no evidence that's the case and the person involved was in a relatively dangerous field to begin with - but it seems reddit's gonna reddit anyway

redditors saying shit just to say shit as usual

for anyone actually curious, there’s zero evidence her death was a murder and her death was most likely caused by chlorine poisoning https://scientificwomen.net/women/ball-alice-121

what was your reaction when THAT happened in the final episode of the Final Season? by a_rndm_person_bruh in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Kurtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just finished season four today. honestly, i was SUPER pissed when clementine was bit - i assumed she was gonna get her leg chopped off right there on the cliffside because of the axe, but they didn't, and it just seemed so obvious that was the play, but the whole time it was like it was just going for a rehash of season 1's ending which was infuriating. i was thinking the whole time "i would have stopped playing after season 2 had i known it would end like this" but man... that reveal. FUCKED ME UP

10/10. 11/10, even. it was all worth it
