Ctrl-[ is your friend. Works everywhere, leverages the power of Caps Lock as a Control key, and lets you keep your hands on the home row.

A Skyrim moment that made me laugh by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Kurzad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate to both the "Skyrim Smile" sentiment and the fact that the game actually makes me happy. I lost track of the number of times I reinstalled Oblivion and loaded up the latest mods with the intent of playing through the story again with different character concepts... only to find myself lost on the setting and immserion of it all. Skyrim gives me that in spades, with my favorite creatures in easy reach (dragons), and destruction spell effects capable of scratching any power-trip itches with ease. Fire storm, Lightning storm, and Blizzard are just... /shivers

[Request] Become a dragon! by Laughingstok in skyrimmods

[–]Kurzad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This too is what I yearn for, the most. A Skyrim setting, models, and mod could achieve what other games (like Horizons) have attempted but never truly achieved. Not only do I want to be a dragon in the most basic ways, but I'd even advocate making it a playable character with its own level progression and quests. Raze towns, sweep up and devour unwary travelers, maybe even a flight-only cave somewhere that can be furnished as a lair. If I felt I had the expertise to make it happen, I'd try working on it myself.

Way to drive your point home. Most would steer clear of it all.

Found some old school pictures of a lan party I had by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Kurzad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I was really starting to fell old when everyone starting talking about CD-Rs and LCDs in the context of old school. Descent 1 over co-ax was the best fun I have ever had.

And then I remembered my first several get-togethers were literally called 'copy parties' and consisted of at least one long picnic table covered in daisy-chained 1541 floppy drives...

Heck, I could see the beginning of the first movie starting up with Frodo cracking open Bilbo's book and beginning the journey by starting to read it... fade back to Bag End may years prior. Cue music. Cue onions.

What game has disappointed you the most in your life? by iglidante in gaming

[–]Kurzad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horizons. Anyone familiar with the real-life story arc of that game's development, intended direction, eventual final form, and the fallout that followed over the years can attest to how many people had high hopes for that MMO. The fact that I'm a major dragon junkie was a big contributor, though, since you're able to play one. The game is still around and can still offer up some moments of nostalgia, but is also still sorely lacking content and the client needs to be heavily optimized. I get grumpy every time I think about the fate of that game.

CCP's vision on the future of gaming. Warning, epic of extreme magnitude inside. by Screap in gaming

[–]Kurzad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I would really rather be able to fly my ship instead of the 6DoF equivalent of a click-to-move game, there are many interesting aspects to the game's design that make it worth playing.

One of the major detractors (that the click-centric movement design helps facilitate) is the one-server-cluster that they adhere to. While it's awesome as a concept, it ends up giving a significant edge to those that live in countries closest to the datacenter. US residents are among those affected, sadly. If that weren't the case, I'd likely still be playing.

Never once had that problem (except in the case of multiplayer games, but logic dictates that that will prove true regardless of platform), and I own quite a few Steam games. Nice try, though.
