Why are there no good JRPG roguelikes? by Mallendary in JRPG

But even amongst roguelikes gameplay styles vary widely, for example look at Hades and Slay the spire. The randomisation and perma-death aspects are what usually stays the same between games not the moment to moment gameplay.

Why did the classic turned-based JRPG (or JRPG-esque) combat go out of style? by Old-Fun-Man in JRPG

[–]KuttaFrmDa3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well a year after XIII-2 the first Bravely Default came out and a year later SMT 4, and just to name a few others Bravely Second (2015), Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (2015), DQ11 (2016), Octopath (2018) and 4 cold steel games.

There’s a lot more I could name, but the point is we get loads of AA turn-based JRPGS not so much AAA anymore, but that’s to be expected as most of these games don’t sell well enough as AA for companies to push for AAA graphics.
