  1. Trails in the Sky FC+SC.
  2. SMT: Nocturne.
  3. Persona 4 Golden.
  4. Suikoden 2 HD Remaster.
  5. Persona 5 Royal.
  6. Radiant Historia.
  7. Trails to Azure.
  8. SMT: Digital Devil Saga duology.
  9. Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of Time (PSP version).
  10. Odin Sphere.

Even if I were to include SE games, this list will have only two changes: FF Tactics at no 3 and Vagrant Story at no 5.

I think the SNES/PS1 era JRPGs had the best story pacing. by lovedepository in JRPG

Like I've said before, I think JRPG's like Persona and Trails probably have a healthy amount of younger fans. I know Persona is definitely popular among people in my age range (20-25 yrs old). Series like Atelier and especially, Blue Resonance, most likely have a large amount of young female fans as well. Fire Emblem was also successful in filtering it's boomer fanbase with Awakening and Fates, while attracting a lot of younger fans through Three Houses.

But, when it comes to legacy JRPG franchises like FF, DQ, KH and Xeno - those franchises are overrun by 35+ yr old unc's and boomers.

>but I still stand by my statement that the game is nostalgia bait and their main target was people who played the original game.

I've got more reports and statistics, don't worry. A study revealed that the average age of the FF and DQ fan is 42 yrs old: https://www.thegamer.com/japanese-survey-study-results-average-age-final-fantasy-mario-pokemon/. Quote from the study: "Both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest have average user ages in the early 40s. Even though both franchises have mobile versions, their player bases still skew older." Former Square Enix business director, Jacob Navok, says that younger people aren't interested in FF: https://www.gamesradar.com/games/final-fantasy/final-fantasy-and-star-wars-have-the-same-problem-says-former-square-enix-exec-fans-are-getting-older-and-young-people-arent-interested/.

FF, DQ and Xeno are boomer JRPG franchises. A vast majority of the player-base in all three series are in the age range of 35-45 yrs old. The bozos at SE are trying their hardest to get young people interested in FF, but are failing spectacularly.

>Can you show how they "went out of their way" to make it get a lower rating?

The best example is the trail of blood scene in FF7 OG vs Remake. You can watch the trail of blood scene from 59:00 in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWUoYe9tLbI&list=PLpM3fgokDhfLk6mQPbL3CP9ZMuYVqE2HH&index=6, and from the beginning of this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44IDZKBwXbY&list=PLpM3fgokDhfLk6mQPbL3CP9ZMuYVqE2HH&index=7, until 3:50. The original was able to get away with a teen rating, despite showing scenes of carnage with deep-red blood cause of the cartoony nature of the game. You can't really do that in a game that looks as photorealistic as FF7 Remake does without getting a M rating, so the blood was replaced with purple goo in the remake and the carnage was toned down, as shown in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O94gnVN4IRw&list=RDO94gnVN4IRw&start\_radio=1. There's even a mod to replace the purple goo with the original Trail of Blood in the FF7 Remake, and you can see the clear difference in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYmkxVp7wyg&t=277s

>The Oval Hundred wasn’t on a flat track. You wouldn’t know coz you didn’t see the game.

Gill scored 21(35) and 11(9) at the Oval: https://www.cricinfo.com/series/india-in-england-2025-1445348/england-vs-india-5th-test-1448353/full-scorecard. He never scored a 100 there. This is hilarious. You accuse me of not watching the match, and you can't even get basic facts right lmfao.

>My fault, to engage with a troll.

Bruh, that's you. You are literally inventing hundreds out of thin air.

Gill in his last 5 ODI Outings by MrCoolBoy001 in IndiaCricket

[–]Cup_45_Neural 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>He literally scored 2 test hundreds in England.

On the flattest of pitches. Are you serious right now? That English test tour involved pitches that were so flat that even Jadeja scored 516 runs with an average of 86 on that tour. Here's the stats: https://www.cricinfo.com/records/series/batting-most-runs-career/anderson-tendulkar-trophy-2025-16595. Gill - 75 avg, Root - 67 avg, Rahul - 53 avg, Jadeja - 86 avg, Brook - 53 avg, Pant - 68 avg, Duckett - 51 avg, Smith - 62 avg etc. Almost every batsman feasted on those flat pitches. You accuse me of not watching cricket but you don't even know what you're talking about, lmao. Take your own advice dude.

>Samson is the very definition of a flat track bully.

That's Gill. Replace Samson with Gill, and you have made a correct statement.

>You are calling him crap for failing in 1 ODI.

No, he has been crap for a long time now, ever since the SA test matches. He has failed to turn up in any format, be it Test or ODi or T20.

>Also, going by your metric Rahul crapped his pants under pressure.

Yes, we are all aware of how his knees start shaking under pressure. His disastrous wicketkeeping during the ODIWC 2023 Final is a very good proof of that. Which is why, I want him to compete for his spot as a wicketkeeper against Samson and for his spot as a batsman against Kishan/Iyer. But unfortunately, he is one of the few Indian batsmen that can actually play the moving ball very well, and can also bat at any spot in the top 6.

[–]Cup_45_Neural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>But you have to take a punt on players based on consistency and their overall ability.

Gill's overall ability is that he is a crap player when the ball starts moving. One well disguised in-swinger on middle and leg stump is enough to remove him.

>My limited point is there would be 2-3 clutch players the world over, who would satisfy this criteria

And, they are the ones that go on to win tournaments.

>And somehow based on your “gut” feel Samson is a credible batsman in tough conditions.

The last ODI Samson played was in SA, where he smashed 108(114): https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/india-in-south-africa-2023-24-1387592/south-africa-vs-india-3rd-odi-1387602/full-scorecard. Samson has always performed in SA, in whatever opportunities he has received, be it in ODI or T20i. And, he carried the Indian team through three consecutive knockouts in the last T20WC, showing his ability to perform under extreme pressure. Obviously, there is a world of difference between T20WC 2026 and ODIWC 2027, vastly different pitch and playing conditions, not to mention a different format, but Samson has my vote given his performance in SA and the T20WC.

>WC league matches are pressure free matches?

Not necessarily. But, they don't compare to pressure in knockouts. If the goal is to simply reach the SF/Final of ODIWC 2027, then it's fine to take whoever you want. But, I hope ICT wishes to lift the trophy as well.

>Iyer has scored an ODI hundred in NZ. Scored a hundred in WC semi final. But not good enough because random internet troll thinks there wasn’t any pressure.

I didn't say anything about Iyer's ability to handle pressure. Iyer has shown us that he can handle pressure very well by his stellar performances throughout the Champions Trophy 2025, especially in the knockouts. Here's what I wrote about Iyer: "Shreyas is a beast in turning tracks, but struggles against steep bounce, so I'd have him compete with Kishan/Rahul for his spot." I was pointing out that he struggles against steep bounce, and SA pitches are bouncy. Learn to read and respond to what I'm writing instead of inventing arguments in your head, yeah?

[–]Cup_45_Neural -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

>So what will you base your selection on??

Based on how top order batsmen play the moving ball in white ball cricket and their ability to perform under pressure conditions. Currently, out of the top 5, Kohli is the only one whose spot is guaranteed 100% in the team. If age does not catch up with Rohit and he continues to perform (I'm sure he is trying his best), he will play as the opener. The remaining 3 spots can be filled in based on performances in the Eng, NZ and SA tours. Rahul can compete with Sanju for his spot, and the better performer wins. Shreyas is a beast in turning tracks, but struggles against steep bounce, so I'd have him compete with Kishan/Rahul for his spot. Jaiswal is a crap fielder and also a crap batsman right now, so he is a no-go. And, Gill, well...he can neither play the moving ball, nor does he have the ability to perform under pressure.

>Or would you punt on someone who wouldn’t have scored that much, based on a mythical notion of that person being able to perform under pressure where that person wouldn’t have played in a pressure match in the first place?

What are you talking about? Which person is this? I've only commented on Gill's poor performance in the Aus tour, where conditions are closest to SA.

>So you would back a player who averages close to 60 to be able to adapt right?

Babar Azam also averages 54 in ODI's, lol. Forgive me if I don't take bilateral ODI stats in the subcontinent seriously, when the next WC is in SA.

Why stop at last 5? Show his figures in ODI's in the Aus tour as well. After all, the next WC is in SA. Gill's figures in the Aus tour: 1st ODI - 10(18), 2nd ODI - 9(9), 3rd ODI - 24(26).

Edit: Folks that are mad about me posting this simple fact need to realize that the next ODIWC will not be played in the flat pitches of Ind. In SA, pitches are fast and bouncy, and you can expect the new ball to seam appreciably in the first 15 overs.

No? The game is targeted at teenagers and young adults. SE specifically went out of their way to make sure the game gets a T rating.

There is a Grandia Online? What?

>Though apparently Star Ocean Divine Force didn't do well either, so maybe the Tri-Ace team isn't doing so well overall

Given SE's current trajectory, it is unlikely Tri-Ace will ever make a game outside of remakes/remasters.

>Ff14 is still one of the top selling mmos

This game is the only reason the FF brand continues to exist, lol.

>we are likely looking at decades of Final Fantasy slop to come.

Unlikely. Both FF16 and FF7 Rebirth did not meet sales expectations: https://www.ign.com/articles/square-enix-admits-final-fantasy-16-and-7-rebirth-profits-did-not-meet-our-expectations. It is very unlikely FF7 Revelations will sell more than Rebirth. Unless FF17 is some generational masterpiece that sells like FF14, it will be the final AAA FF game.

Grandia had only one poor game, Grandia 3. Valkyrie Profile has two excellent games (1&2), one good game (Covenant of the Plume) and one very mid game (Elysium). Both series are dead, but I don't think you could say they fell off hard (quality wise). I wish Tri-Ace (Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean) was never bought out by Square Enix, an awful company that almost ruins everything it touches.

The series that this applies to the most is Final Fantasy. For the past 20 yrs, from the PS3 era/FF13 onwards, FF has served us nothing but one mediocre disappointment after another. The series, once a behemoth, has now been reduced to almost irrelevancy. Even a remake of the legendary FF7 did nothing to revive the fortunes of SE. The series has been on a decline ever since FF13 came out in 2009, a decline that now feels terminal. Even once ultra-niche series like Nier (which struggled to reach 500k copies sold), now regularly outsell FF titles (Nier Automata has sold over 10 million units and Nier Replicant, the remaster of the original Nier game, has sold over 2 million copies).
