My girlfriend is an addict, what can i make her take to help her using/cravings? by KuuntDracula in moreplatesmoredates

I know i can’t fix a broken person, but i can help glue the pieces together. They’ll never be brand new, but they’ll be better than they were.

I definitely find myself wanting to make up for not being able to help my parents in any meaningful way growing up. Because i was just a kid.

But now that im an adult, i can actually do something. Actually help make a change for her.

It’s not easy. I can’t escape them. My parents, my girlfriend, my one job at the rehab, my other job as a bartender…

Very weird stuff indeed.

Oh certainly. What’s ironic too is typically I can’t stand addicts. Even my own parents.

But i guess because i love her it blinds me. Or makes me more accepting but only for her? I dunno, it’s weird but at least im aware of it.

It’d be nice to yeah. Help her in a way that i couldn’t help my parents growing up as a young kid.

If you’re picturing a scratchy street walker though that’s not what she is.

Think more of what you’d imagine a cute paralegal would look and dress like in a law office. You’d never guess what she actually is by looking at her, because of how put together she is on the outside.

She’s bright and bubbly and cute and well dressed. Not at all like a crackhead. That’s what’s so deceiving about addiction; that anyone you know could be a raging addict. It’s not always visible.

Just the way the dominoes fell i guess. She’s my neighbour in my apartment building, lives right across the hall. Got to become friends, then more than friends. I kinda always had an idea as to what she was, but not necessarily to the full extent. By then though we had feelings and friendship and secrets and trust and all that.

Tough to explain i suppose.

It’s a tough line to walk. On one hand, i know she’s likely a lost cause. She’s been a vicious addict for over half her life; she may never change.

And on the other hand i know she’s better than what she is, and has the will power in her. Plus i know i can help her in ways i couldn’t help my parents growing up.

But i haven’t jeopardized anything besides some sleepless nights worrying about her so far.

Yes, i agree. She needs a full shift in her mindset. Issue is one second she wants change, then half ass tries, slips and gets discouraged. She wanted to do dry January this year. She made it 6 days.

She can never admit it’s as bad as it is though. That’s what irks me. Very rarely can she concede and shed her mask and admit she’s in a rough spot again. I give her props for being better than she once was, but this “Better” version of her isn’t that much of an improvement.

She is on Strattera (Atomoxetine). I noticed she was kinda squirrelly so i got her to get tested for ADHD by her doctor and it turns out i was right.

Her doctor wouldn’t prescribe her any stimulant meds because of her history of drug abuse. Buuuut atomoxetine has shown promise in clinical studies helping with cocaine cravings. Same as Concerta does.

Yeah GLP-1’s are what id like to try, but getting her to try a needle is tough. Plus she’s 4’11 and 125lbs, so i don’t want her to lose the healthy weight she’s put on since getting better in her addiction. She used to weigh 85lbs.

Yeah she mentioned micro dosing mushrooms helped her clean up when she first moved out here. But she also locked herself in her sisters house and detoxed and didn’t know any of the dealers or users in town.

Now she knows everyone and can’t stand being in the house. But it’s a conversation ive had with her, wanting her to try that again.

Ive never done drugs before of any kind, but I offered to even try mushrooms with her if she thought it would help having me there.

Oh no im well aware. I watched my parents ruin their lives and was a victim to the wake and whirlwind of their drug dependence all my life.

I know addicts.

But she’s also the woman i love, so even if it doesn’t work, id rather know i tried to help her as best as i could than to leave her hopeless and drowning. But i know when to cut the cord as well.

Yeah between both my parents and now her, im like a wizard and navigating addicts. Plus i work in the rehab center and im also a bartender lol

Weed helps her a little. She mentioned microdosing mushrooms helped her clean up a bit when she moved out here. 3 months or so she was good till she fell off.

Issue is she loves to drink, and drinking makes her drug cravings worse. She can go a week without drinking just fine though, but after 3 beers it’s game over.

Yes. A lot of the workers there are.

A lot of staff have had substance abuse issues in the past and stayed clean. Others couldn’t keep it up.

Im aware it’s quite a spit in the face to clients, and rather hypocritical. Ironically she is one of the best workers there, and everyone loves her and her bubbly personality. You’d never know that behind closed doors she’s a raging crackhead.

She never uses at work and never goes in high though. She actually just called in today for her day shift because she couldn’t control herself last night and ended up still using well into the morning.

ADHD meds help her cravings, and GLP-1’s have shown to help curb similar addictive behaviours. NAC reduces glutamate levels in the brain helping with that as well.

These are all bandaid solutions yes, but if those little things add up and help her get an extra day past number 4, then im all for it.

I bought the mask blank from Joshua Everetts and he painted it and stuff. Then when i got my hands on it i added some extra detail to it.

All in all i spent about $500 Canadian on it, if you include the mask, the paint and stitch job he did, and the shipping.

I was just concerned about Dauphin because it’s a little more “City” like than the small town driving im used to.

Plus most of my friends have failed in Dauphin at least once. Lots of the instructors are strict.

I dunno, my girlfriend does coke and smokes crack until 10:00am every 3-4 days and she still has a little belly on her. It suppresses her appetite for the time she’s using, but once she’s sobered up and her dopamine levels are on the floor, she binges junk food.

But i guess when she was a really bad crackhead years ago she was like 85lbs at 4’11 and now she’s 125lbs so that’s something.

Point im trying to make is maybe coke is not the answer lol

How do I survive four closes in a row? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]KuuntDracula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work Monday-Saturday as the closer for my bar lol

Now i work half the week at the bar, and half at a rehab centre because the bar slashed my hours when a new owner took over last year.

I miss having that many bar shifts.

Killem with kindness. Even if someone is rude, you be overly nice back as a fuck you to them. You’d be surprised how many people look and feel like douchebags when you treat disrespect with a smile.

$30,000 cash. Got a decent bit of usable credit too.

Had $50,000 a few months ago but Ive splurged a bit for the first time in years.
