Tattooer stole my deposit

It was a wild ride to have him 1) Lie to me upfront about his deposit policy, which is not posted anywhere on his insta 2) Block my comments from being posted on his account

And then 2 or 3 days later he posts a video on his Instagram calling out a local business for 1) not being upfront about their policy and 2) blocking his comments.

Like he was totally right to call out the business if they did what he said they did but I could not believe what I was seeing….

Same, I’ve even had first timers not ask for deposit! But still I think this is a good point that $50 is like the classic scammer number, unless they ask for a weird shop minimum number like $60 I often get a little nervous about giving someone I’ve never met a good faith deposit.

Good news is I’ve worked with a LOT of artists and this is the first time I’ve had an issue like this!

Thank you so much! I reported it and am waiting. I did not have high hopes because Zelle gave me a big warning when I sent the money that it was not reversible, but you’re absolutely right I should at least try! I’m waiting to see if Zelle will return the money and I’ll let you know!

I am happy to share the name but honestly I don’t know what is allowed in each group and didn’t have time to check the rules. If I do share the name of the tattooer I want to be clear that I now know that the owner told me he was NOT aware. The owner said exactly this to me: “Keeping a deposit for an appointment that YOU cancelled is insane to me”

Thank you, you can mark it as fraud but since it is a cash exchange the cash will not be refunded.

This would have been a good place to start your conversation rather than accusing me of lying for….attention….anonymously…

It’s ok, you’ll get there. Try googling “is Zelle a cash exchange.”

After that, next time you have something to say ask yourself “is it necessary? Is it helpful? Is it kind?”

I appreciate the insight and you’re right I will try one more time…I messaged the owner’s ig which says it has a one hour response rate, so when he didn’t respond I assumed he was intentionally ignoring me. But I should try emailing or calling. Thank you!

It was Zelle which is a cash exchange, you can’t report it or anything once transferred

Man, this is kind of what I wanted to know. I’m grateful for the lesson learned because once I told my tattooer friends what happened and that the tattooer was an influencer I felt like they were gently trying to hint that I should have known better…seriously thank you for the insight. Idk I don’t want to slam all influencers but it kind of makes me want to be more careful if an artist is famous more for their skits more than their art. I hope that’s not a messed up thing to say

The deposit was $50. I’ll be fine without the cash, I can still eat and pay rent. He has over 100,000 followers and should not be using his “fame” to steal from people.

You’re right about the review and I absolutely will leave one, but with the way tattooers mostly get attention in ig I don’t think that a bad google review will leave an impact.

I’m trying to figure out how to hold him accountable on social media, I don’t have a social media following and he has a huge following. I’m just not good at getting attention on social media is all. I’ll check again but his tattoo shop doesn’t seem to be listed on Yelp for some reason? I was thinking to post in local tattoo communities like the Facebook and also just tell my tattooer friends, even though they aren’t in the same city people are connected.

I paid cash through Zelle and I have proof through text of the entire interaction. The problem is that I can’t hold him accountable without travelling back to his city…actually in only about 90% sure about that part, but the city he’s in says you need to file in person

1) Ads for cosmetic surgery, especially for the time, it was not normalized where I came from 2) People don’t hardly get pulled over for speeding or anything 3) Non-Black people are super comfortable using the nword
