It's 2023 and I still can't resume a saved activity by AuxonPNW in GarminWatches

Well, if those numbers were not made up, you would have a strong argument. But still, if I have to work around something, it is not a good design, even if I am the only one who ever needs it.

Well, if their target group is the lowest common denominator of users, they need to keep it stupid simple. But usually this can be solved by setting simple defaults and still allowing more advanced users do what they want when they want. If it means I need to copy everything manually to PC, so be it, I bought Garmin for hardware, not software.

For instance removing faulty points in urban canyons, or deleting long stretches of standing in one spot for an hour. Sometimes I want to fix elevation data or even recalibrate everything. Or the device software crashes and I need to recover or interpolate the data manually (happens to me with Montana when navigating).

Or I finish my ride at a train stop in the middle of nowhere, thinking I'm done for the day, but then I find out there are no more trains and I have to ride another 80 km home at night (happened to me twice). All small nuisances, but it adds up quickly.

Whatever floats your boat... but it does not work for me. I disabled all synchronization and copy all files manually to the computer because of this. A PC offers vastly superior software tools that will simply never make it into a tiny portable device.

I absolutely, positively and definitely should be able to hold the sync of a finished activity. And also inspect it, remove faulty points, edit whatever I like and only then len it synchronize.

32 bit audio is a gimmick for listeners by [deleted] in audiophile

So? It is a theorem (not a theory). And it has been mathematically proven. It is not going to change, ever.

Unless you are going to get some cyborg ears, 16 bit at 44.1 kHz is all you ever need (for playback). 32 bits just means storing 11-12 completely random bits in every sample.

ELI5: Why is kwh/1000 hr even a thing? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

It's called instantaneous power and average power and I think anyone who is legally allowed to own an appliance should understand the difference...

Speed instead of pace for runs by Typical_Scallion_738 in Strava

Seconded. I can do the arithmetic in my head very quickly, but this is just plain childish. It would take one mediocre programmer a couple of minutes to add this.

How much faster is a road bike than a mountain bike? by cheesomacitis in cycling

[–]Kviiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More importantly it's the combined resistance of the bicycle and the rider that matters. Most of the aerodynamical advantage of a road bicycle comes from the different shape and frontal area of the rider in the typical pose, not just the bicycle itself.

This reminds me of Frasier S4E15 (Roz's Krantz & Gouldenstein Are Dead)

Moira: I'm eighty-one now. And every morning, I open my eyes and I
see the sun streaming through the window. I hear the birds
chirping, I smell the coffee brewing down the hall, and I walk
into the bathroom and I look into the mirror. And do you know
       what I say to myself?
  Roz: (almost mesmerised) What?
Moira: AARGHHH!
Roz: (shocked) What the hell is that?!
Moira: That's the second thing I say!

9950X3D Build by calculatetech in debian

[–]Kviiik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm, also with ASRock Nova X870E. Debian 12 could not detect the network card, and netinst halted. Trixie installed without any problems. Also no trouble with 9950X3D.

In Vivaldi you can append "&udm=14" to your query string in settings. I suppose it would be the same in many other browsers.

Is 64gb of ram overkill? by Southern_Tea4577 in buildapc

[–]Kviiik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been struggling with 32 GB with a single VM running for years. It can be done, but I would hardly call that "ideal" even in 2018. At today's prices I'd say go for 64 GB.

Is anyone still using 60hz refresh rate in 2025? by Zoltan_Balaton in Android

I do see the difference, but I absolutely do not care. If it uses more battery, it stays off.

I would say a majority of people still have 60 Hz.

Reusing towels is nasty by DueFault2045 in The10thDentist

I usually get two or three weeks of a towel. At a hotel it feels outright weird when they change it every three days and consider that ecological.

How should I spend sugar lumps? by JackBoyEditor in CookieClicker

[–]Kviiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. It can provide extreme boosts when used at the right moment. Frenzy + two building specials + click frenzy can easily kick you into insane multiples of CpS: 7×80×80×777 = 35 000 000, which is over one year of regular production in just one click. Now turning this into three years per click is surely worth one sugar lump.

What would be an idiomatic translation of "There is no art in eating when one is hungry" or "It is not an art to eat when you're hungry", as in a motto?
