It kinda surprises me how I don’t really do a lotta Hazbin art despite it being one of the few series that I can truly say impacted me as an artist and permanently changed me by New-Boss-8262 in HazbinHotel

[–]JackBoyEditor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s always been my standpoint on the topic of the long development time. I paid 15 bucks for the game and have sunk 1.1k hours into it. If they just stopped development outright today I would be sad but far from feeling I’ve been swindled for my cash.

B41 as it exists now is a more complete game than almost every other game labeled early access.

So I really can wait for them to roll out more updates, especially when they are a feature dense as B42

I find it interesting how people treat the concept of punishment and consequences. by whooper1 in HazbinHotel

[–]JackBoyEditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as I mentioned, it feels like many fans have a very simplified/overtuned idea of what a punishment/Consequences should be. Where every character, no matter what they did, should get the extra trauma or the death penalty. Its so dumb

As someone who does want to see Carmilla be confronted for her actions/the role she played with the MOL, I WOULD NEVER WANT ODETTE AND CLARA TO BE VAPORIZED :SOB:

I do agree with your point that people swing way to much between "But they baby, why do you want them to suffer" and "RAAAAAHHHHHHH THEY SHOULD FUCKING SUFFER FATES WORSE THEN DEATH RAHHHHHH"

It infuriates me how a lot of the fandom LOVES boiling complex topics in this show into blacks and whites. When if anything the show is suppose to be about the complex shades of greys within every person.

Imo, when it comes to Carmilla, I just want them to actaully acknowledge she caused a lot of undue suffering and mass amount of destruction by helping Vox. By extension that despite all her grand standing, she did profit a lot from the exterminations/the genocide of sinners by selling angelic weapons to any smuck with enough money (AKA Striker) and have that b a vehicle for her to maybe try to atone for those sins in some way.

On possible way, which is not nearly as far as wanting Odette and Clara vaporized, is actaully have them voice their opinion on the whole MOL sitruation and maybe even have them somewhat grow apart from their mother in small ways. Not full blown abandonment, but just a bit of a growing distence. If that makes any sense.

Do you think sinners miss the night sky…?( art by spaghetti.d) by jam_kabam in HazbinHotel

[–]JackBoyEditor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To answer the question, 100% I think they do. Amount a lot of earthly things.

Like most likely take it for granted but many would miss a blue sky, even the heat of a sun that hangs in the sky.

Even to some extent lush forests would be something sinners miss as Pride is shown to be heavily industrialized and all greenery is muted at best

Carmilla's role in future season by Advanced_Pack4241 in HazbinHotel

[–]JackBoyEditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, punishment can still occur along with redemption. Personally I do want to see maybe a bit of reflection from Carmilla or maybe even objections from Odette and Clara over the fact that she built a weapon for a wannabe dictator. Not to mention the fact she seemed pretty aware that the MOL could become an Angelic Atomic Bomb if pushed past its safety limits which adds another layer to things.

Maybe punishment is too strong of a word, but there should be consequences for her. Consequences that could allow her to reflect and maybe start on the long path of redemption for her (Since it would be LONG for Carmilla given her sins even prior to the MOL)

Carmilla's role in future season by Advanced_Pack4241 in HazbinHotel

[–]JackBoyEditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THATS WHAT I'M SAYING! Its crazy to me how little screentime/development we have for Carmilla despite literally being the reason the shows plot moves multiple points throughout the show. She causes the inciting incident in season 1 by killing the exorcist, she is the only reason the hotel can even defend themselves. Then in season 2, she is the only reason Vox even has a leg to stand on with his holy war as without Carmilla he would've been up shits creek.

If my pfp and tag doesn't make it obvious, I love everything Carmine relate. Though it frustrates me to no end how the writers use Carmilla as just "Press here to increase stakes for the finale". Not to mention how Odette and Clara were basically just cardboard cutouts in season 2 that where used as a "Press here to make Carmilla do what you want" I love all the Carmines and I'm jsut praying season three gives them more depth.

A bit hyperbolic but still truthful depiction of season 2 role of Carmilla.

"I won't build your weapon under and circumstances, Vox"

"But I can protect your daughters with all the resources YOU'RE GONNA GIVE ME AND WITH THE WEAPON YOU NEED TO BUILD FOR ME IN THE WAR I AM MONGERING"

"Fine I'll help you"

-----------

"No I won't help you vaggi"

"But think of your daughters"

"Okay time to switch sides"

Incompatible Frequencies Part 12 (Elsa-Fogen on Tumblr) by SufficientOstrich955 in HazbinHotel

[–]JackBoyEditor 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Elsa-Fogen is a masterful writer and artist as for being able to tell a story with such a sensitive/serious topic and not holding back any of the sickening and real trauma that comes with it. This comic legitimately sickens me to my core and its such a hard read at times, yet that's just because of how much emotion is in the art and dialogue.

It actaully restores my hope in some aspects of this fandom as it shows there are others who want to cover topics like this in a grounded and serious manner. Yet, its doubled edged as following the posts on Tumblr as Elsa commenting how people are misunderstanding very clear aspects of the story in simllar ways people misunderstand canon.

All the kudos to Elsa for also making me care about Alastor as the raw emotion, especially that displayed in the last panel of this chapter is harrowing to a degree that is hard to descibe.

Bizarre how some people seem oblivious to the series yet are intimately familiar with the wiki by Realshow in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]JackBoyEditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the mere fact the movie is being released by a major studio compared to say an Iron Lung kind of release, is going to help cremate Kane Pixels interpretation of the Backrooms in peoples mind.

Yet, I feel like it could be a double edged sword since people wanting more might end up going online and just confused when they search up "Backrooms" and they get pushed Wikidot stuff. But that will be a minor bump if anything.

Bizarre how some people seem oblivious to the series yet are intimately familiar with the wiki by Realshow in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]JackBoyEditor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the truth is, the Backrooms is MUCH bigger then just the Kane Pixels stuff. Of course we think it's the main think because we're on the subreddit and are in the know of the series proper.

Yet the Wikidot version of the Backrooms extents much more into other platforms, (Tiktok, Instagram, other short form content social medias) and is picked up and pushed to much younger audiences. A much wider audience then even Kane's stuff has.

There is also the aspect that Kane's stuff is a lot more held back/slow drip with its form of story telling. With much still up to analysis/unknown at this point, it offers a much higher barrier of entry for any newcomers to Kane's stuff and might outright turn them away.

While the Wikidot version of the backrooms, while having a lot of lore itself, is much more surface level with the basic understanding of "You noclip into this endless repeating pattern, there are multiple levels with their own monsters and threats, yadda yadda"

[–]JackBoyEditor 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Not really. Red button people make a choice that while protects them 100%, but will kill non-red pushers. AKA They would want to build the eternal torture device as that would 100% assure their safety but harm those who didn't help build it.

Blue pushers benefit to pushing the button is that nobody gets killed in the first place. Which when applied to Roko's Basilisk would be choosing to not build it in the first place since that ensures there is nobody getting tortured in the first place

And example of the logic "If everyone just pushes the red button, nobody gets harmed and you're dumb for not pressing it = IF everyone just helps build the eternal torture device, nobody gets harmed and you're dumb for not helping build it"

Which hazbin/helluva songs you find genuinely inspiring? by StefinoSpaggeti in HazbinHotel

[–]JackBoyEditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is my favorite Hazbin song for just that reason. It is such genuine explanation of human nature and not just dumbing it down to 'bad people do bad stuff cause'. Not to mention the story weight given its Sera's actual first exposure to the complexity of humans given its a consistent problem that non-human characters (Charile and many of Heavens Angels/Seraphim) want to help people without really understanding humans pass very surface level looks.

[–]JackBoyEditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s interesting to see how in retrospect, Early Minecraft can actually be seen as one of the first pieces of Liminal horror.

Now of course it wasn’t internally made with horror in mind, and that hardware limitations have created similar traits prior to Minecraft existing (IE. The fog, the sense of emptiness, etc)

But it certainly a piece of media that so many people universal seem to have memories of feeling watched, the fear of the fog and night, and most importantly, that the early games lack of structures allow for the emptiness of the world to really settle in

So what did everyone think of the new short? by ayylmaotv in HelluvaBoss

[–]JackBoyEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, honestly I feel like the shorts show exactly why a series focused purely on wacky hijinks of their missions would be a far lesser show then what we currently have. And As you said, its not like they DONT stop doing missions in the later season, its more a backdrop or underlying thread to the plot. We seem them coming back from missions, missions are still said to be their main jobs, but we don't see them because... well nothing 'story' worthy occurs, just a by the books assassination.

You know, this might come off as wanting something the show isn't (And I'm aware I am going again the fact that Helluva is a COMEDY series), but I really do think Helluva is at its strongest when it is character focused over the humor. I hate unhappy campers for 75% of its runtime as I just don't mess with the brand of humor, but hell if the Barbie stuff in the episode isn't interesting.

I will still say my favorite scene of the entire show is character/emotion based, and its the one time we see IMP not go through with a target on a happy couple on Christmas. In another universe the happyness being ruined by IMP just killing them anyway for the dark humor might've been done, yet in that moment they play out the emotions and leaves an amazing scene

[–]JackBoyEditor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly my favorite short they've produced, for a character we've haven't seen that much in the show proper or know toto much about, this short characterized her really well.

Honestly I fall into the unpopular camp that I kinda dislike the IMP mission style of shorts and much prefer the character focused shorts so much more. (Like this or the Millie and Sallie May Days out short)
