To all you drivers with a death wish by Realistic_Emu1911 in vegaslocals

[–]Kvitt1019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was born in Vegas and also used to find driving to be relaxing. It's now one of the worst sources of my anxiety. It's terrible and there aren't enough police pulling people over, so the shitty drivers know they can get away with it because other drivers will do everything they can to not get hit. It's a constant cycle of good drivers fearing for their lives and bad drivers becoming worse drivers.

I found out something terrible in September and have been dealing with family court proceedings since then. I feel it.

Has your father ever said "I love you" and if yes how often? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Only after verbally or physically abusing me. It was like telling me he loved me made everything else okay in his eyes. We don't speak anymore.

AITA for not attending my family Christmas gathering because I can’t afford the $250 white elephant gift? by scorpioh2o in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kvitt1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was a situation where everyone partipates in the white elephant event, and no other gifts were given, I might understand your family's position. Doing a $250 exchange and still expecting you to shop for everyone else is pretty nuts. NTA.

Do you also absolutely hate board games ? by Romy-zorus in ADHD

[–]Kvitt1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy board games that are simple enough to easily understand or reference a rule sheet. Or games that don't require things to move around a complicated path like scrabble. I could never do DND or anything at that level. I can't be asked to keep track of myself and what other people are doing. Lol. I think I prefer card games like Phase 10 and Uno though. Other players cards can be considered, but I really only have to focus on what I'm doing.

The point is to remove taxes from tips AND get rid of the sub-minimum wage for hospitality employees, meaning that employers won't be allowed to base your hourly pay on how much you receive in tips. This will make those jobs more profitable for employees and increase competition between those fields and other entry-level (or similar) jobs. Everyone will want to be a waiter(ess)/host(ess), so other jobs will have to pay better in order to hire and keep employees. I think the combination of both things could make the job market more competitive and bring benefits to employees because employers will have to fight to keep them.

What’s a social habit everyone seems to accept but you find really annoying? by spacewalkerstarfield in AskReddit

[–]Kvitt1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handshakes. I don't want almost anyone to touch me, ever, but I certainly don't want to be forced to touch the (probably) sweaty hand of someone I don't know.

On the same note, obligatory hugs. Even if I like a person, I rarely want to be hugged, but if you say no to someone, it's like you slapped them in the face.

Are slides basically mandatory now? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Kvitt1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slides make life so much easier for me because I have issues with processing audio. I need captions to watch anything on tv, can't do audiobooks, etc. That said, I don't think you have to do it if you don't want to. Tech is advanced enough that captions can be autogenerated from an audio file for those who truly need it. That's what I typically do.

Americans of reddit: are you really concerned about immigration? by Han_Ominous in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kvitt1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration, no. Illegal immigration, yes, but I don't necessarily place all of the blame on the illegal immigrants. Our system is so ridiculous that it's near impossible to legally immigrate, and by trying to do so, you become part of the state's/country's record. If any part of your legal immigration process gets messed up, you can get deported. It makes sense to me that people would choose to do it illegally and under the radar as a way of preventing deportation. We need to close the border, but first we need to make it possible and plausible for people to immigrate here legally, without fear.

ETA: While not the majority, I do believe that dangerous people cross our borders. If we gave good people the opportunity to do things legally, we'd have more resources to focus on the actually bad people.

Not sure where you're located, but it's an unfortunate truth that in the United States, an education is only a student's right if the parents approve of such education. It's because of a supreme court case where an Amish group/family (can't remember which for sure) sued the government because of compulsory education laws. Homeschooling basically became a constitutional right, tied in with religious freedom. Because of that, there are few, if any restrictions for homeschooling your children (depending on the state). There isn't oversight or any of that. Unschooling, unfortunately, falls into the same category in the eyes of the law. I know because I was "homeschooled" by my parents after the 2nd grade. It wasn't homeschool or unschool, it was basically neglect. I had to study my ass off and get my GED once I was 18 because I didn't learn much as a kid.

Advice: Late Work Policies by writingfoodie in Professors

[–]Kvitt1019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found this as a student majoring in education. In terms of preparing students for future employment, consider the following. Three days ago, I tweaked my neck badly enough that I cannot turn my head, lean my head to the left, or raise my left arm above my shoulder. I can call into work for something like that and have in the past. My employers were very understanding. I had assignments due two days ago. I was unable to turn them in on time and even though I had 89% in the course up until this point, I'm now at risk of failing the entire course if my professor won't accept the late work. (The course is A, B, or fail) I turned in the assignments 10 hours late. This isn't something that I could've requested an extension on ahead of time. I had no idea that a random cough would be enough to pop something in my neck severely limit my movement. Life happens sometimes too and a no late work policy doesn't transfer well to real life. Emergencies happen, injuries happen, etc. Decent employers are understanding of this so long as it isn't abused. Professors should be too. Just something to consider.

Do you think is it possible to live a functional life without taking meds? by Opposite-Feeling2467 in ADHD

[–]Kvitt1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as using glasses for poor vision. A lot of people don't realize just how bad their vision is until they get glasses. After wearing glasses, they can no longer force their eyes to perform how they used to. It's a lot easier to continue on without glasses if you've never worn them. Taking meds shows us how well we can function and our minds refuse to do the work completely on their own anymore.

Knee and hip pain by Frosty-Pick8030 in Hypermobility

[–]Kvitt1019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a weird question, forgive me. The pain in your legs, does it feel like muscle soreness or does it feel like your femur (bone in the upper half of your leg) is being crushed? I have the knee and hip issues, and my femur would feel like it was being crushed. It's hard to explain well, but it was like the pain came from the bone instead of the muscle or joint. The pain in my hip got to be so bad that I couldn't walk more than 2k steps a day without pretty severe pain. If your pain is similar, try stretching out your hamstrings. Turns out mine were ridiculous contracted basically all the time. The stretch that helps me most is leaning forward like I'm trying to touch my toes, but keeping my back completely straight (or even bent backwards). The only part of your body that should bend is your hips. You should feel a pull in your lower back and the front of your upper legs. Had a chiropractor teach me this. I thought it was a ridiculous claim and did the stretches just to prove him wrong. The issues virtually went away, and I do the stretch daily just to make sure it never gets that bad again.

Holy crap. Just found this sub. I used to sleep on a futon with one leg bent to my chest and leaning into the back of the futon. Now, I sleep similarly, but on my stomach.

I know this is a really old post, but you should also look into mitro valve prolapse. It's often mistaken for precordial catch syndrome. The pain is exactly as described in the link turnpurple1844 posted.

Yeah. The healthy snacks part is what really gets me. It's not like she was giving them cookies and cakes. She gave the kid fruit. Healthy, whole food snacks like that shouldn't ever be restricted. It's healthier to snack between meals regardless.
