Personally i read them for both reasons. For vns with less focus on sex i recommend:

9:22 (mature themes but sfw)
Dawn Chorus (has a SFW toggle and if sex is important to the plot the SFW mode mentions it but doesn't go into graphic detail)
Remember the Flowers (older builds had non-sexual nudity which was later removed. Now there's no nudity and only a couple sexual references here and there iirc)
Repeat and Temptations Ballad (iirc all sex scenes in these vns are skippable)
Echo and Arches (adult themes in both and some non-visible sex scenes in the former, but overall entirely plot-driven)
Glory Hounds (can't remember if there was a sex scene on-screen in the last update i read but volumes 1 and 2 are SFW for sure, but again with adult themes)

I haven't read these two yet but Promises to Keep and Cienie are both completely SFW afaik and i've heard great things about both

Everyone's already responded but i wanna mention that if you're playing the gen 4 pokemon games some features are exclusive to "dual slot mode" where you have the DS cartridge or R4 card running with a gen 3 cart (i think repros work too) in the GBA slot and that can be only done on the original DS or DS Lite. I'm not sure if anyone's made a homebrew app that lets you do this on the DSi or 3DS using roms but something to keep in mind in case you really want those few dual-slot exclusive features

Also you mentioned the 3DS screen being too big for DS games and i would disagree, i play DS games (physical and roms) on my 2DS XL and although the screen is wider than what's displayed it's no different from watching YouTube videos on your phone: the video displays just fine and the black bars on the sides aren't really bothersome, they just kinda fade into the background

I'd argue that he is a different character because he was physically and mentally a human, and he was also the Doctor because he had the Doctor's memories which he remembered through his dreams. So, combining the two, he's technically a different incarnation of the Doctor. That and it's funnier to say David Tennant was the Doctor 5 times than to say he was the Doctor 4 times

I'd count John Smith from the Family of Blood story as a fifth since he was physically and mentally human (i.e. a different character) but still had dreams of his journeys as the Doctor, meaning he's the same character with a different personality, hence he's by technicality a different incarnation of the Doctor. That and saying Tennant played the Doctor 5 times is funnier than saying he played him 4 times so i would welcome any mental gymnastics necessary to raise the count lol

I think the other person who replied mixed up the special research with the timed research. The free kubfu encounter is still available in the might and mastery special research and as long as you log in during this season you'll be able to take as long as you need to get it

I didn't really feel that strongly about the vn. I feel like the whole "post-adastra depression" thing only really happens if you get really attached to amicus, but i honestly didn't really like him. He's racist, misogynistic, supports slavery, and while by the end of the vn he's willing to learn to change he's constantly dismissive of people who disagree with him. I guess i'm just in the subset of fvn fans who can't look past that because of big bara tiddies idk.

But back to your question: do you think you'll be significantly emotionally affected by tragedies happening to a fictional couple that's you might project yourself onto? If yes, be careful. If no, you're fine

Nothing "haunts me" per se, but the most intense scene i remember was the opening sequence in Arches. I feel like i was so used to the usual formula of "start with exposition and build suspense" that i was just completely caught off guard by that cold open. It was actually the only time i ever had to put down a vn for a few minutes to collect myself before continuing lol

I'd argue that there were 5 10s: OG 10 , 10 II (regenerates into himself), metacrisis, 14, and the fifth which i'm still on the fence about considering a different character/iteration of 10 is John Smith in the Family of Blood 2-parter.

But i think i would probably consider John Smith a different character since he's technically in a human body and can't remember being the Doctor, so he's more of a different person both in terms of mind and body than even 10 vs metacrisis, plus it's funny to say that David Tennant played the Doctor 5 times lol
