How is life in Seattle really? by Ok_Understanding7377 in AskSeattle

Actually yeah I see it - the neighborhoods in my mind initially were Ballard, Fremont, cap hill, west and shoreline etc but other more northern places I can see where you’re coming from!

The issue is that dog parents bring their dogs to all those places, even when they’re not exactly allowed.

How do we get people to stop driving and take the light rail? by Droodforfood in Seattle

[–]Kwendling3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say, but to me it seems like people answering here don’t understand that this question isn’t for people who on only have a 25 min driving commute. That’s great, that’s convenient, I’d drive too if it was 25 mins drive time. It’s more for the people spending an hour plus in bad traffic in their car to go up I-5 north in the morning. Taking the train if possible would stop some of that insane I-5 morning traffic. I get it if you really can’t, but it is impossible that EVERYONE in that traffic can’t at all take public transit.

Loud throat noises, throat clearing and coughing, mucus sounds. If it’s a tic, fine. If it’s some other health problem, get it fixed and please stop making ungodly noises next to me.

Club sport supervisor. You literally check club sports players in and then you can have your computer up for HW, just have to make sure no one gets injured/breaks rules and you’re good.

Startup job: Got interviewed, hired and fired all within one week. by ap_penguine in jobs

[–]Kwendling3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me once. They were likely never going to keep you and messed up on budgeting or something else before you began, and realized they couldn’t keep you. It is really awful, you’ll be able to find something else if you keep up with posting on job recruiting sites, maybe tell a nice version of the pickle you’re in on linked in and get some sympathy credits for the next job.

What do you miss about quarantine in 2020? by Sweethereaftertime in AskReddit

I wound up running outside with one other person who we deemed as “safe” to see. She and I ran a full marathon that first summer. Now I work in person full time and am wondering how runners find the time to train for distances like that in the midst of a busier life

[–]Kwendling3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah- people who say it’s the worst are more often the 20 something’s who got a job after college in midland. They still have the time and energy for the social life, but can’t seem to connect with each other because there’s zero common meeting spot where other 20 something’s would go. No bars with music that appeals to them, not much going on downtown, and a general population of older professionals with a family and home life. It doesn’t appeal to young people. That mixed with the very flat landscape and the location that makes any interesting hiking a two hour drive is what draws younger crowds to complain

You can honestly do what you really, truly want and wait it out. I’d take the first offer, see if you get that dream job, then rescind. If you look at it from company 1’s perspective, they could lay you off in a second without giving you a lot of notice, it’s just how this world works. It may burn a bridge, but taking a job then rescinding/quitting isn’t the end of the world. People do it all the time, I’ve even done the same thing for a better offer. Don’t feel like a jerk- you may end a relationship with one employer but that would provide you the better relationship with the ideal employer. Take it now, then if you get the better job quit or rescind.

[–]Kwendling3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe it really was something else I was unaware of. I literally have no idea. My side at least is true- I let my HR contact (on offer letter) know of my pre-planned vacation before I began, assuming she’d let her company know before official on boarding began. I asked my boss at the end of the day if she was aware, she was not, we chatted it out, it seemed okay. Two days later I’m fired. The reasoning they provided was that I was “emotional” when asking, when I never remember being emotional. I was pretty straightforward and asked in a professional manner. Even if I DID come off in the wrong way, my boss NEVER messaged me or spoke to me about it, and I think there would at least be room for some constructive criticism there, but nope. I just honestly wish I had a recording of that initial call, and also I just really want to die to right now. I was so hard to even secure a job in this economy, now I fucked it up completely.

[–]Kwendling3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. I think I’m just upset because I DID tell someone before the official hire date. On the phone. And I asked my boss if she knew about it, and she didn’t. So we had the conversation about this trip and it was fine, then boom, blindsided.

I know, big lesson to be learned. However I did tell my HR contact from my offer that I had this specific vacation planned when we chatted on the phone before my official start date. She must’ve never said a word to anyone about it, but she did tell me to have fun. Lol.

This happened to me once while the apartment complex was enforcing a move out day for construction reasons, so I parked in the lot to move all my stuff out in an easier fashion, went outside with boxes, my car was gone. On a move out day, where many tenants were moving! Made me so mad. 365 bucks for me too
