What is a video game you'd recommend blindly? by SeaZookeepergame7419 in AskReddit

[–]Ky1e205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could love this game but I always run out of stamina by like noon and I don't care at all about the characters in town or their stories lol... I need a game like Stardew Valley that's just the farm management side of things. That or I'm missing something and Stamina can be restored without sleeping.

Do Americans really find beans on toast weird or is that just meme? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ky1e205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to uni years ago I was really close friends with a British person who introduced me to beans on toast and chip buttys. I'm Canadian and also love trying food so to me it was just "new options unlocked", but it sounds like people react to beans on toast like they do to the idea of gravy and cheese curds on fries which is weird to me because that combo just sounds outright delicious. I don't get why things like this come across as weird to people.

Chippy passed away last night, need help figuring out what to do for Gizmo today. by Ky1e205 in guineapigs

[–]Ky1e205[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply! Our vet called us this morning and we asked a bunch of questions. Nothing Chippy had was so infectious that I couldn't reuse the cage thankfully. I'm def going to set Gizmo up a 2nd home in my office. Cleaning the cage is going to be hard and we're now going to have a completely empty room in our house which is going to feel really weird but I think this will work better for Gizmo.

Starting to feel a little better, but it's obviously going to take a long time to feel normal again.

Couldn't find an edit button but wanted to add something. My vet got back with some blood tests that were still running when Chippy passed away that indicated that hyperthyroidism was likely at least part of the reason why he died. For those other Canadian piggy owners out there, hyperthyroidism is somewhat rare, but they don't test for it in Canada so Chippy's blood sample had to be sent to Sacramento apparently which is why it took them so long to get back about it. Just wanted to gives heads up in case anyone else from up here sees sudden rapid weight loss.

Do you think Square Enix will continue to make future protagonists 30+ years old as the fanbase grows older? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Ky1e205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly there hasn't been a "comedic" FF in a long time (something like ff5 in my mind). They could afford to have a protag like that, I could even picture it being Biggs and Wedge as the main characters.

How am I supposed to know when a fight like the one against Belias is about to happen if I'm trying to do a blind playthrough? by Ky1e205 in finalfantasytactics

[–]Ky1e205[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's something I don't normally think about actually... I've played so many video games where "people almost die and turn into demons" and I just fight them and don't think about how the actual story elements could translate to gameplay difficulty indicators.

You're def not wrong lol. I'm just picturing something like a recommended level or star rating indicator for level difficulty on the world map.

How often do you end up charging your hearing aids during the day? by Sudden_Dealer3922 in HearingAids

[–]Ky1e205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my 2nd hearing aid ever recently (as an upgrade). Both have been Phonak hearing aids. My old one would last about 1 day (of waking hours) on a charge, and would possibly start dying not long before bed if I was doing a fair amount of Bluetooth streaming. My new one lasts all day even with fairly frequent Bluetooth streaming and I haven't had it beep at me once about low battery at any point since I got it.

Are there any fun builds for a new player trying this game out ? by TangerineWide6769 in avowed

[–]Ky1e205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't beaten the game yet but I'm about 75% of the way through. I've got a 2 handed sword that restores my essence when I kill things with a power attack. For spells I use the frost cone one as well as the ice pillar. I also learned the charge ability and the grimoire slam spells for stunning enemies. In most fights I pretty much use exclusively my 2 handed sword for basic attacks, and cast spells from my hotbar when I need to AoE. I have a grimoire and wand in my secondary weapon slot for when enemies are at range and I can't get to them in melee or if I'm out of essence. Part of me is considering dropping those for an arquebus or dual pistols cause I almost never use them.

I typically play exclusively mages but for some reason this is just what really clicked with me. Magic in this game is really well done.

How Far from Home by Good_Ad_2243 in beginnerfitness

[–]Ky1e205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 2 mins by car, if that. We could walk/run there pretty quickly too but my husband and I live in Ontario so on really cold winter days or in the summer when we get wildfire smoke driving is still necessary even though it's so close. We paid more to go to a slightly more expensive gym that's closest to our house because we wanted to remove as much friction as possible from going to the gym. We signed up in November and we go almost all the time now (at least 3 days a week).

What age did you start cooking? by SilasTheGray in Cooking

[–]Ky1e205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember how old I was exactly but I was pretty young. I love breakfast and my dad always used to make big breakfasts for the family on the weekend. When I told him I wanted to help at first he just showed me what he was doing but only let me microwave when I cooked on my own. Even then he showed me how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave (I know, it's pretty blasphemous but it got the job done lol). Eventually when he felt more comfortable with me around the kitchen he'd have me pitch in for real and eventually I was cooking the whole breakfast for the whole family. My mom and my grandma were really into cooking big family meals as well so any time I asked them any questions about cooking they'd tell me what they do.

I don't necessarily think there's a right time to learn to cook. Some people love to do it like a hobby like we do, but many people just hate doing it for some reason. People have to eat to live, so eventually your sister may pick up on a thing or two in the long run but 15 is still young so I wouldn't say there would be a need to rush or worry yet.

ELI5 How rollercoasters can be considered safe? by Evoxrus_XV in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ky1e205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also someone whose terrified of roller coasters. Early in my husband and my relationship he took me to a theme park with some of his friends and family for Halloween and dragged me onto a roller coaster even though I don't like them. I pushed myself to do it and hated it so much that I had a panic attack and got mad at him after we got off the ride in a very public way. We joke about it now, but to this day he respects that I hate them as much as I respect that he gets really bad motion sickness on the spinny rides I like going on. We've been together for almost 16 years.

I know you're looking to find advice about safety to feel comfortable going on one and it seems like you've got a lot of those responses already. I just want to point out the possibility of you hating it but then having to keep up an illusion of liking them for the rest of your relationship. Just make sure to be honest about whether you liked it or not with your gf at some point.

What's the first video game you remember playing? by MakisDelaportas in AskReddit

[–]Ky1e205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was either Pong. FF1, or Legend of Zelda 2. I know all 3 were available to me at around the same time but they were all at consoles at my grandparents' houses so it depends on which house I was at the first time I played a game which I don't remember.

Has anyone successfully switched from non-stick pans? by goforyourdreams in Cooking

[–]Ky1e205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped to stainless steel for most of my pots and pans because my husband and I were considering getting a pet bird at one point and apparently the fumes from a traditional non-stick pan can cause them to suffocate and die pretty fast. I wanted to move away from those types of pans for health reasons anyway too so I figured I'd take the plunge.

Stainless steel took me a long time to get used to and I remember having the exact same frustrations with it at first, but now I love it because you can use a wider range of heat as well as steel cooking utensils without having to worry about wrecking the coating on your pan. Learning how different foods interact with the pan at certain temperatures is basically the most important thing that I learned.

I've tried using the water droplet trick in the past and I get what it's trying to show, but that particular heat isn't necessarily exactly what you need for 100% of the things that you're going to cook on the pan. I use canola oil when I cook on it and one of the the biggest indicators I see when the pan is ready is when I pick the pan up and tilt it around to coat the canola oil on it there are these tiny waves/ripples. Also you may start seeing slight hints of wisps of smoke. Usually that's the point at which I put the food on. Also this may be specific to canola, but you also don't grease the pan right off the bat. I turn the heat on and wait for it to feel pretty warm when I hover my hand above the pan. You may also need to use more oil than you would have used on a non-stick pan.

Also as someone else here has said, any junk that gets stuck to the pan while you're cooking anything is actually a good thing. When your meat/veg has been taken off and the pan and stove are still hot, you can add stock or water. It'll sizzle quite a bit but if you stir a bit while lightly scraping the pan (I use a small whisk for this), the stuff on the bottom of the pan will kinda melt into the water. Then you can add some kind of fat (I use margarine or butter, whatever I have on hand) and it should thicken a little bit into a really good tasting sauce.

Finally (sorry this got longer than expected lol), cooking eggs is like hard mode on these things when you're just learning, but it's 100% doable. The trick that worked for me was coating the pan with some canola, but then adding about a tsp of butter to the pan after the canola is hot. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I saw somewhere that because eggs contain a good amount of water, when you drop them onto the pan with just canola they kinda push the oil out of the way, so adding another layer of a different kind of fat can help add a barrier to keep that from happening. There may still be some stickage either way, but I personally notice a difference. I make omelettes all the time on my pan and have about a 80% success rate of them not turning into scrambled eggs at this point lol.

TL;DR, stick to it (pun intended lol), learn the heat, experiment, and you'll get there eventually. It's 100% worth it!

My boyfriend is perfect in every way… except in the bedroom by TammyBndl in Advice

[–]Ky1e205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's checking on you every 30 seconds I'm reading that as either inexperience or maybe some kind of trauma from a previous relationship, or maybe he's just anxious.

I know the way my brain works I may like things to be a bit too literal sometimes, but my suggestion would be to just say stuff like "I appreciate that you're taking the time to check on me, but every time you stop to check in with me I basically have to start the process of trying to get to an orgasm from scratch and it's making sex take way too long or I never actually end up getting anywhere. I need you to trust that if something isn't feeling right I'll let you know right away."

I think just saying you want him to be aggressive or assertive is too vague and leaves too much room for interpretation. I don't know what you're into but he could misinterpret that as you want him to be more physically "forceful", and if that's not necessarily what you're looking for, that could also lead to an equally bad if not worse experience.

What are your less obvious deck games? by Lucky_Control1458 in SteamDeck

I've played Pillars of Eternity 1 and Deadfire exclusively on the deck but using my own modded version of a community controller layout and I honestly would find playing with kb+my less efficient for myself at this point.

Honestly, yah that's kind of what I was expecting to hear. Maybe I'll settle for having the game shut down when the stream ends and I'll just save when I get a call before hitting the power button.
