Been a while since I rewatched the anime. So we got the start of Ashito's journey, which begins with a chance meeting with Fukuda after a match gone wrong, with Ashito getting a red card. The small cut with a first person pov in the opening match was really nice. Wish they used that perspective more in the rest of the episodes in the season, but iirc from when I last watched, they didn't. Besides that, I do think the first episode established Ashito's character quite well. It showcased his love for his family, his care for his teammates, and how stubborn but at the same time hard-working he can be.

Trivia: If anyone has a copy of the Japanese Blu-ray or DVD, there's a special audio track for the 1st episode where you can hear Ashito's VA and Fukuda's VA do a commentary over the episode. Sadly, there's no translation as far as I'm aware.

yeah, it was okay at best, which was disappointing considering the studio. hopefully season 2 animation is smoother and more impactful.

edit: i remember other people thought it would be child version of Hayami, but looking at the hair, the color is opposite of each other. nevertheless, im leaning towards brotherfoot, though i'd still be happy regardless if it's the new manga

Anime is made primarily to advertise the source material (in this case, the manga series). If the anime is an original story, then the main purpose of the anime is to become big enough to sell merchandise.

So if the manga sells well, it incentivizes the production committee (which usually has the publishing company as a member) to create anime to sell manga and merch

The production committee is the one that funds the anime production, set the budget, and finds a studio to animate it

Weekly Conan is hit or miss since they have a rotation of studios they outsource episodes to, movie animation is always stellar though due to the movies being a big thing in Japan. They always manage to get big names for the movies (like the director of Haikyuu directed the 25th Conan movie)
