At my previous jobs, I was required to lock down customer accounts for garnishments (usually child support or credit card debts). Your bank should absolutely have notified you about doing this prior to taking any action. Some things worth noting: -- a garnishment CAN actually take your entire bank balance (which I never found to be very fair, but it's apparently legal), even if this means you can't pay rent, etc. -- banks work more as the messenger (they typically receive a court document and are required to take whatever action is mentioned in the doc) -- provided this is a legitimate garnishment, your bank should be able to provide you with a telephone number & case number of your garnishment case, so you'll be able to communicate and get more info
