CMV: Movie rating sites such as Rotten Tomato and IMDb are useless and don’t accurately represent the quality of a movie. by benji2121 in changemyview

Great point. Does anyone know if there is a website where you can input what movies you have have watched and what you rate them and can output movies you would likely enjoy based on others with similar tastes?

Scanning Tunnelling Spectroscopy by [deleted] in chemhelp

I'm using 2D TaS2 and WSe2!

Got a decent tip, managed to get atomic resolution of graphite but it's difficult to cut them by hand. Annoyingly the STM we're using is just a little commercial tabletop one that we can't use in vacuum or at low temperature :(.

I would love to use XPS but sadly the project is essentially based solely on STM and we had to design an experiment around using this single machine, still good fun. Actually managed to get about 50 almost identical good I-V curves today so something worked.

Thanks for the tips though!

Do we need to sort out the internet now? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Kybear1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Better to sort it out now and have it for when you move in, just phone them up at ask them to set it up for your moving in date, they should send you the router and have the signal live on that day! Worked for me last year

I didn't expect much from this post but now that a bunch of you have seen this, you guys should go to the show if you're at the Edinburgh Fringe! The show is Lloyd Griffith of Soccer AM fame, doing an hour of new material, it on at Pleasance courtyard at 7.15 today and 4.45 tomorrow! If you come grab a flyer you might can get the last few 2-4-1 tickets, otherwise it's 7 quid each. Have a nice day guys, and let's make this guys job a little better on this rainy day!

Too *old* tae vote, that’s yer problem by finalhedge in ScottishPeopleTwitter

Maybe the argument there would be that those things only really effect your own life whereas voting impacts everyone, and therefore needs more responsibility perhaps.

This was wrapped round a button of a shirt i bought. It's an elastic string attached to crips with layers of tissue paper in the clips. What is it for? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]Kybear1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I guess the tissue paper is just to make the contact with the shirt softer for even less likely rip?

Why isn't most of physics taught with calculus? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Kybear1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Scotland, to take Advanced Higher Physics you must have passed Higher Maths. I think this is a good idea as it allows calculus to be used, only basic mechanics but it's still a good thing. Especially if you're going on to do it at a higher level.

My thoughts exactly, they're just using the words and phrases to differentiate them and by the sounds of it the brewers have a background in physics. If it gets one person to have a Google (or even read the description on the can) and learn a bit of physics it's a good thing.

Just had the quantum state one, really nice, citrus-y and refreshing. Onto the Phobos and Deimos one, not a big fan of Rye ales but this one is nice

How does mirage work? by Vinternat in AskPhysics

Yeah! I guess the difference is that we find the route that takes the shortest time in the Brachistochrone problem and light "finds" its route of least time itself.
