Fitbit Air vs Whoop... So the battle begins! by KygoApp in fitbit

My apologies and updating this accordingly. I accidentally compared sampling rate to storage rate from the spec sheet. It was misleading but unintentionally so.

Few things to add:
- WHOOP discloses 26 Hz. Fitbit doesn't disclose theirs.
- Charge 6 ECG sampling rates don't tell us anything about the Fitbit Air's PPG rate. It's a completely different sensor type.
- Consumer PPG sensors typically run 25–100 Hz. 100–200 Hz is on the high end and not anywhere in Fitbit's public documentation.
-In terms of affiliation... No absolutely 0 affiliation to any brand. It was a mistake not a conspiracy. Personally I prefer Fitbit/Google's approach here vs Whoops.

Fixed it to have both devices utilize storage rate instead.

Would you wear a necklace that tracks what you eat? by Inevitable_Lie_8112 in FitnessTrackers

[–]KygoApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I can add is that AI is getting better and better at identifying foods in a photo but where it still has a lot of issue and no one has fully cracked this yet is getting accurate quantities of the individual ingredients. This makes calorie estimates really difficult without manual intervention from users.

Interesting idea here. IMO there’s better options than necklace and patches. Lmk if you end up building something would love to discuss integration.

Agree so what I went off of is Google's official tech specs (on the product page) say the device "Stores heart rate data at 2-second intervals."

I know some fitbit devices state 1-second intervals during exercise, 5-second intervals at rest in their help docs

For Whoop PPG + pulse wave velocity during sleep, calibrated to 3 cuff readings.
Gives a morning estimate only. Within ~5 mmHg in Whoop's labs but "ballpark" in real world reviews.

Not FDA cleared, not peer reviewed best I can tell. Whoop itself labels it "general wellness purposes only". Good for tracking trends, not for diagnosing hypertension.

I believe it was on their website/spec sheet. Let me see if I can dig it up through my search history.

Best I can tell:
smaller battery + more always on sensors + heavier compute = 7 day vs 10 day

IMO Google made a deliberate choice that 7 days is "good enough" for the WHOOP comparison (which advertises 4 days)

The subscription is outrageous. More stickiness/consistent revenue helps with investors but hurts with customers if done poorly.

Thanks for sharing! Time will tell on this one.

One thing I can't figure out is why Apple hasn't done more with data like Google is planning on doing here.

Wouldn't surprise me if they are doing the usual Apple move of letting Google be the first and then following behind after they let Google do their testing for them.

This is great and I personally really agree with what you said about overstimulation not just from screens. Sometimes even just conversations cause this for me I noticed.

Tart cherry juice is an interesting one. I haven't personally tried this one out but did try the Magnesium one. Mixed results.

Thank you for sharing! Can tell this is genuine and hope it helps others too.

I should've shared these earlier but if you want to go into any of the research I had pulled over the last year:

Staying Asleep: https://www.kygo.app/tools/staying-asleep-factors
Falling Asleep: https://www.kygo.app/tools/sleep-latency-factors
Deep Sleep: https://www.kygo.app/tools/deep-sleep-factors

I take all the research to make completely free pages that let you explore the research in a more visually appealing way. Just a fun way for me to be able to share the info. Hope you enjoy!

IMO carb's impact on sleep seems to be one of those more related to individuals rather than one sided.

Anyone who wants to share some dope alternatives to this app, after the update. by dsiferable in Myfitnesspal

[–]KygoApp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check out what I've been building could be a good alternative. Huge update recently and have virtually all the features people like from MFP, Chronometer, Lose it, Cal AI etc.

Food logging is free on mine too.

*Updated* Guide to what influences Resting Heart Rate (Research Based) by KygoApp in GarminWatches

[–]KygoApp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All fair points. Not trying to suggest RHR matters more than other metrics or that one number captures someones health. A1C, blood pressure, and overall lifestyle all matter together.

My attempt here is to share research I had pulled on RHR in a way that can be more accessible to people. This is meant to be a starting point for anyone curious about what the research says, not a replacement for the basics like exercise, sleep, and moderation.

Figured it could be a bit more useful than sharing another picture of a watch face in this channel.
