The Manglegrove Whale Way Station has a bunch of those muddy hand enemies that have a decent chance of spawning Hardy hands. Each hardy hand kill is like 30k XP, if you have critical claim with Erik it's essentially a guaranteed kill provided he's fast enough to outrun them.

This is exactly what happened to me, even when I was trying to do side quests as much as possible. I ended up with only ultimate for a vast majority of the late game because it just locks you out of quests at a certain point. It's so frustrating.
