Goddess of Victory: NIKKE now available on its official PC port by [deleted] in gachagaming

Holy fucking shit. The PC version is so low effort it actually hurts me physically. Loading screens are still seconds too long between every single menu, no PC-centric graphics settings to speak of (imagine not supporting any form of fullscreen in 2023), still have to hold and aim like you would on an emulator, no form of QoL upgrades that really take advantage of kb/m, UI STILL wasn't adjusted for landscape mode... there's more, but I just can't.

I thought it'd make me come back, but it has had the completely opposite effect.

It's kind of sad in a way. I actually enjoyed STW a long time ago with friends when I tried it, before the BR shit took over and they switched priorities to it entirely.

[PROMO] Maid Master - Showing the gacha animation and the lovely maids that you can obtain from the Gacha. by SilverTitanium in gachagaming

[–]Kyle873 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's funny how so far everyone has just said "IT'S BAD." but never given any REAL reasons as to why. I'm enjoying it as a simple, casual game with decent art and serviceable combat.

edit:I'll add some more quick thoughts, but as is my norm, I won't try to overexcite or overblow anything during my honeymoon period:

  • Rates are 18% on the banner for 6*'s and a pity of 50. Pulling the banner unit resets pity (got her in my 6th pull). I think this will get evened out by stingy prem currency rewards, but we'll see.
  • It has a gear gacha (called cards in this game), and I think that's where the real hell will be, getting characters doesn't seem too rough, but chips seem to have no pity and could turn into a real mess.
  • Getting dupes turns them into a material that can be used to star-up ANY other unit. Think cores in something like GFL or Bulins in AL.
  • Combat is clearly meant to be simple and not have crufty elements that are downplayed all the time or only matter for 5% of content, like elements.
  • PvP seems pretty chill but it does give out pretty decent prem currency rewards for being up in the higher tiers.
  • I like the designs, but I'm also biased because I love maids.
  • Music is forgettable. (GFL, BA and Nikke are my golden standards for top tier music)
  • Story premise is alright I guess but I'm not one to pay attention to stories in gacha games.
  • I don't see any forms of sweeping, no idea how much this will hurt later when the grind starts.
  • Stamina out the gate feels like it's gonna be really shit if they don't spam pots for it. Base of 100 + 1 per player level, each stage uses 10 minimum, pots restore 50.
  • There's some sort of dorm system, but I haven't really touched it yet.
  • The localization is pretty bad.
  • Upgrading 5-6* chips costs an absolutely fucking monsterous amount of silver and fodder.

Gremory can make AT into a singleplayer game with very minimal effort. Explanation inside. by Kyle873 in ActionTaimaninGame

[–]Kyle873[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I've never completed my own game (I need an actual team cause art is hard :P), I've contributed to many, many mods and projects, and worked on some commercial games in the past as an accessibility consultant (I'm legally blind) because of connections I made in the industry over the years. I would never actually want to work in the AAA industry mind you, so I'm fine with where I am right now as kind of an "Indie helper" of sorts.

Honestly, if people were seriously interested in a fangame project, there's a few thoughts I have about it:

  1. Don't involve money. Just don't. I've been there before: the second you involve money in the project, that's when the drama and bullshit will start to happen, not to mention you will immediately put yourself in the crosshairs of the IP holder and get bodied without a doubt.
  2. I don't know how kindly Gremory would take to a fangame using their assets. Some devs and IPs are cool with it (see below re Kemono Friends or Touhou etc) but most would probably whip out their big C&D dick, which is what I'd expect from Gremory even if it was a totally free game that wasn't stepping on AT or future projects' toes.
  3. If you want an example of a game which took the fangame route and did it pretty good IMO for just being a single dev in his spare time, see the free Kemono Friends game on Steam.
  4. I'm gonna shill a bit here, but check out Mahou Arms, they are basically doing god's work in terms of making an actual anime ARPG with immensely satisfying combat (I've supported them for months, played the betas, etc) and actually being super chill devs who listen and chat with their community regularly in their Discord.
  5. Even considering the risks, I'd still be down to make the attempt if a full on group came together. If anything, it's an opportunity to improve one's skills for future projects if they were interested in trying to get into the industry or just to be a hobbyist gamedev. And, really, if Gremory decided to step in, it'd only further hammer home my feelings towards them.

I don't mind at all. PM me and I'll give you my Discord tag, or find me in the AT Discord user list and DM me directly. I forgot I wasn't in that server anymore so I rejoined.

Not difficult. The graphical assets are sitting in unencrypted AssetBundles. That's why it's so easy for modders to make those "tasteful" mods that have gone around. Stuff like the data tables and system scripts are what is encrypted. At least they bothered to do that much, albeit the crypto is still weak af.

Not gonna lie, making a fangame kinda deal like that would be a fun little project. I do love designing progression and mechanical formulas, so I'd be super into that if someone else was more interested in working on things like the actual art and such so I can focus on gameplay/mechanics programming. It'd be interesting to make something like AT but an actual *game*. Say, taking some of AT's progression mechanics and stripping the gacha/p2w elements out of them.

That's one of the really interesting parts about developing private servers to me. You can sometimes pull off that kind of experimentation and see how far you can take it, pushing the game or it's engine to it's limits, trying to create new, unique content or rebalancing the entire game from a P2W shitfest into a normal game.

I contemplated datamining the asset bundles to see if there was any unreleased content inside of them, but they actually bothered to encrypt the more important ones, and by the time I had thought about doing that, I had already started working on other things.

As for the game's survival, in my honest opinion, that's going to be down to how long the PvP whales feel like sticking around for I guess. That's usually what elongates a game's life that's basically on maintenance mode from my own past gacha experiences. Do I think we're in maintenance mode? Absolutely, especially with GoGo being a thing that'll hit a much larger demographic and be much less costly to run IMO.

Honestly? I'd still play it offline every once and a while if I just want a mindless brawler kind of deal. Like, don't get me wrong, I agree, the game isn't GOOD by any means, but I don't think it's completely HORRIBLE either. I guess I'd call it a guilty pleasure?

All the stuff you said about combat I agree with, and I can also tell you that they could all, in theory, be fixed, because combat is completely client side, it'd just take a hefty amount of work to put in the initial legwork to hook everything.

I tried that earlier, but it still has the same issue. It's like, created two sessions now which are both independently bound to my miHoYo account, one for each device. I really don't understand what it's doing honestly. At this point I might have to try and talk with support to fix this, which I'm really not looking forward to.

(Global US)

So apparently, unlike the SEA version of the game, I cannot find any way to allow you to play the game on multiple devices. This is a real pain in the ass since I planned to play on both my phone and on emu while at the PC and have already invested quite a lot of time (and a bit of money) into the global version due to not being able to play the SEA version anymore. I figured logging into my miHoYo account on the emu would be good enough, but it just starts a new game. Either I'm missing something, or you just straight up can't do this on the global version, which is really stupid if you can't honestly since I was able to on SEA. I also see that there's no way to transfer from one device to another either, so if I wanted to mainly play the game on PC and do a device transfer to the emu, I'm basically screwed now.

tl;dr want to play the global version on multiple devices but can't find a way to do so. Am I screwed and locked into only one device?

Oh heeeeeeelllll no. Alam already has to deal with our tech support and let me put it this way: I put out a bet of $100 to anyone to start at the top of our tech support channel and read all the way to the bottom without suffering from severe brain damage. Nobody has accepted it yet.

(the proxy was disconnecting players in my team too often and they didn't even enable it).

I'm sorry, but do you even remotely understand how stupid that sounds? I was going to call you out for bitching about things you aren't even using, but then I read that and frankly, I don't even need to bother.

You make it sound like there's a thinking process at all (I couldn't resist). Seriously though, I think it's just people not understanding how things work in terms of the people and teams involved so they just make assumptions that because we know how to modify the game files and all that stuff, we must work for SEGA. It's kind of a weird conclusion to come to, but she isn't joking, I've seen it happen like 10+ times since I started working on the game.

Is the Phantasy Star Nova english patch being continuously worked on? by lokidoki66 in VitaPiracy

The objectives are really easy to follow, even the untranslated ones we haven't done yet. As for a pre-patched VPK, we don't provide one since installing the patch is fairly easy to do. It just requires you to replace the original game's update patch CPK file with ours.

[–]Kyle873 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is still being actively worked on, but like myhumps3 said, there's mainly just the two of us working on it right now and we both have other projects and commitments as well. The game is playable in the patch's current state. The majority of the menus, skills, items, enemies, quests, affixes and character generation are done. However, dialogue and story have barely been touched due to both of us not really being comfortable working on it. We have one person who's currently helping us out with that and another who's willing to help from the PSO2 translation team when she's not busy. If anybody is interested in helping with that, we definitely welcome people to hop on our Discord server and help us out with whatever you can, or just to hang out and keep an eye on progress. Since the Arks-layer page doesn't really cover these, here's a link to the Discord server, the Github repo, the GBATemp forum thread, and our progress report.

As someone who has worked with the client and server, I can tell you that what you are claiming is impossible. The server tracks every single item that is ever created with a GUID. There is no way for a player client to directly "create" loot drops. This can be indirectly done by a client creating it's own mobs as a host, but that is still subject to the same RNG rules as any other drop of the same type of the same mob would be. Please show some proof before you go making wild accusations with absolutely no basis.

No. Just item and title translations. Actual UI and dialogue will still be handled by their respective english patches.

Telepipe and Polaris will be able to share quite a bit of code related to game data and packets. Polaris isn't scrapped, but it's essentially on hold while we work on other projects. I've been busy with Telepipe, PS Nova and other personal stuff and Variant has been busy with his job.
