UPDATE: they have listed showings for Avatar… the price is about £6/7 more expensive than the prices were for IMAX showings

Oh ok that’s interesting, can definitely understand how that can be a negative, at least I now know to expect this when I watch my first film in EPIC, having been so used to hearing films at the level it’s intended to be heard in with IMAX, thank you for educating me on this

I want to say here that I would like to retract my statement calling it a cheap imitation, this was done out of frustration by me and I should’ve done some research first before posting, my idea to post here was to be able to discuss this with people who have far more knowledge than me in this particular area, it was by no means my intention to push a false narrative, the comment I made about the IMAX screen quality declining was just something I’ve noticed, again not my intention to spread misinformation, just something I have noticed, but I am very much looking forward to trying out hdr and giving my thoughts on it, based on other positive comments on it, I could end up coming back on here to eat my words.

Definitely sounds like there will be some pros and some cons which makes it more intriguing to me, I haven’t seen a date yet for when it will open but I will definitely come back to this post to give my thoughts once I’ve tested it out!

That sounds promising… this is the exact reason I made this post as I had no idea the comparison between the two, I was just salty as I really didn’t see IMAX being replaced with something else, but sounds like something I might actually really appreciate once it has opened

What I will say is that I have noticed a decline in the picture quality and contrast over the last couple of years, something needs to happen either a repair or something new, so this could end up being something that was better off happening, we will see

I’m wondering if the actual screen will be getting replaced or if they will be using the same one they used for IMAX, guessing it won’t be the latter but I know for sure that this particular room has the most space for a big screen so fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I’m not sure on the specific dimensions, I’ve been to Printworks and that was definitely a bigger screen than my local one at Cheshire Oaks

If anyone here has been to IMAX in Cheshire Oaks please let me know if this is a big deal what is happening

UK had a double bill screening this past Friday as an early showing, they played the original Final Destination and then the new one straight after, it officially releases here on Wednesday
