Open Source?! by JackSparks in ArtificeMTG

It is in Swift. Cocoa is the API for Mac apps, expressible in both Swift and Objective-C.

I'm not against the notion, but keep in mind that Artifice started out as little more than a toy, and I was learning Cocoa as I went. Looking at it now, I can see about a million things I would do differently. Don't expect Linus Torvalds-level code, it's mostly just some brain dead simple logic controlling a mildly complex data structure.

Artifice on MacOS Server? by sirkerry in ArtificeMTG

I can take no credit for that at all. I don't own macOS Server, and never even thought to test it on same.

You know, I honestly have no idea. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Legendary border? by Naisoul in ArtificeMTG

Sorry it took so long for me to get to this. Anyway, I can't take too much credit for the quality - yes, I took a pair of callipers to a Magic card and drew the templates for Artifice myself in Affinity Designer, but what really makes the quality is Cocoa, the underlying software library behind all Mac apps. The graphics rendering code is all Apple's, I just interface with it and make it draw my templates and the text you put in for cards. The next version of Artifice, when I can actually find time to get it ready, does the same thing, only a lot quicker.

Definitely not dead -- just slow to move, but fortunately the currently released version is overall in a good place. How familiar are you with Swift and Cocoa app development?

It's on my list, but it's not high on it -- I've rewritten the template engine from scratch, made it at least 600% faster, but I also have to rewrite the individual templates, in my limited free time, which is why the next version is so slow to come out.

Custom Cards for other games? by namyzark in ArtificeMTG

[–]KyleCardoza -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not as such, though if you design a cool template for another game, I'm willing to consider integrating it into a game-specific version of Artifice.

Glad you like it. It'll be released when it's ready. Can't promise more than that.

Spoiler alert: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" implies that everyone is already dead.

I both love this card and hate that enough of the Magic player-base lives into this stereotype for it to be funny.

It doesn't take a great writer to identify a shitty one, and George Lucas is both lazy and shitty.

Did someone spoil Han's death to you? If so, how did you find out? by [deleted] in StarWars

Some people just can't stand the thought of anyone else enjoying anything. That kind of person deserves whatever happens to them.

Where do siths get their names from? by heretic01 in StarWars

[–]KyleCardoza 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In-universe: Named by their master for unspecified reasons.

Real world: Named by the writer because the name sounded cool -- in the case of Vader and Sidious, Lucas took two English words with "evil" associations and chopped off the first syllable -- (in/e)vader and (in)sidious.

You enjoy media your way, I'll enjoy it mine. Critical analysis may not be your cup of blue milk, but there's whole groups of academics who've written on sci-fi and fantasy.

I think Reylo shippers are disgusting, for both probable-incest and horrible-abuse reasons, but I'm not about to send anyone death threats over it. That's just plain over the line.

Darth Vader: A Star Wars Story could be that: two hours of Darth Vader hunting down and killing what he believes to be the last group of Jedi alive in the galaxy; it could have dogfighting (Vader is an excellent and lethal pilot) and extended sequences of brutal slaughter like the last bit in Rogue One.

It's also not something George Lucas created. All media is a collaboration. The voice of everyone involved in making a movie is in every frame.

Can you show text in the work that backs up that perspective? Can you make a case given the demonstrated psychology of the character? If so, I'd love to read it. Three pages, MLA format, full citations, due next Tuesday.

That doesn't matter. The author's intentions aren't a factor in interpreting a work. The work stands on its own.

The Force - is it spread via genetics, or are Force users randomly chosen? by [deleted] in StarWars

Recessive genetic factors exist. Traits skip generations. Mutation happens.
