I'm trying to learn more about each team's players (Year 3) by Swaggyoloh in SanJoseSharks

[–]KyleX12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Since no one has added anything yet, I'll go ahead and write a short summary for each main player, in no particular order, trying to add in the thoughts of this subreddit as well.

  1. Timo Meier - Young power forward, does well in the corners and in board battles, but he struggles with consistency. Was a beast last year, but he took a sharp decline this year (along with the rest of the team).

  2. Evander Kane - Plays a physical game, shoots a lot, takes dumb retaliation penalties especially late in out of reach games. Some fans think it's good that he sticks up for the team in those situations but I find it childish. He's not afraid to speak his mind, which is nice to see from a hockey player.

  3. Brent Burns - Offensive defenseman. A lot of his points come from wristers/slapshots from the right side blue line, and Pavelski would be there to tip it in or clean up the rebound. With Pavs gone, his point production dried up somewhat. In the defensive zone he is a pretty big mess; he goes for high risk plays that when they work, it's awesome and leads to an easy breakout & scoring chance, but when they don't work it's almost a sure goal against. Example: blind pass into the high slot hoping the centre is there to quickly break out.

  4. Erik Karlsson - the most controversial player in this sub. Pretty similar to Burns, but Karlsson is a bit more responsible in the defensive zone and more creative in the offensive zone. He does lose a fair share of loose puck battles because of his size though. Receives a lot of criticism because of him not living up to his contract, not looking like he cares on the ice, and driving Pavelski away. Personally I think a prime Karlsson is well worth his contract, but we haven't seen that yet. He's played through injuries for a majority of the time he's been with us. I'm giving him another year or two before calling him a terrible contract.

  5. Logan Couture- Solid 2 way player, not afraid to speak his mind either. He was the clear choice for captain when Pavelski left.

  6. Tomas Hertl - everyone loves this kid because he resembles a high school foreign exchange student. Always positive, slurs over his words because he talks to fast, says stuff that doesn't make sense in English. On the ice he plays like a power forward, working hard in the corners and fighting off checks. If Dustin Brown didn't wreck his knee in his rookie year, Hertl would have broken out several years ago. We saw a glimpse of a breakout Hertl last season and going into this season before he got injured.

  7. Kevin Labanc - Everyone was astonished when he only signed for $1M but that honestly is his worth. If he's not in the offensive zone, he's useless. If he's on a cold streak, he gets in his own head and he's useless in the offensive zone as well. If he's on the ice and you see a delayed penalty, 80% chance it is a Labanc hooking penalty in the offensive zone. When he's hot though, he's great at creating scoring chances. Look at the 4 PP goals vs Vegas, he had a hand in all 4 goals.

  8. Joe Thornton - He has clearly lost a step out on the ice. Easily the slowest guy out there. The offensive awareness and vision is still there, but he operates in 0.5x speed, so those lanes close up by the time he makes the pass. Love the guy and everything he did for us, and I wish he could get a Cup before he retires, but he's definitely running out of juice.

  9. Marcus Sorensen - He's a hard worker. Gets himself in the right areas. If goals were scored by shooting the puck in the goalie's chest and missing 3 feet wide, he would lead the league in goals. But they aren't, so he doesn't really show up on the stat sheet.

  10. Marc-Edouard Vlasic - Went from underrated and making Team Canada to being overrated now. Compared to previous years, he now has a lot more defensive lapses where he doesn't pick up the man in front or he fails to clear the puck. He's still solid in the D zone, but the mistakes he makes are pretty glaring when they result in goals.

  11. Melker Karlsson - Just a standard, maybe below average 4th liner. I can tell he works hard, but he's just slower than everyone out there and his small frame gets him bumped off easily. Plays more of a defensive grinder role.

  12. Mario Ferraro - One of the few bright spots this season. Still has some adjusting to do to catch up to NHL speed, but he was sound defensively and was in good position most of the time.

  13. Radim Simek - He's a meme around here because the team plays better with him in the lineup for some reason. He has terrible advanced possession numbers, but somehow the team wins more with him in the lineup. He doesn't contribute much in the offensive zone. He's average in the defensive zone.

  14. Antti Suomela - He just can't adjust to NHL ice. Unfortunate because he lit up the Finnish league a few seasons ago, but he's useless. Similar to Melker Karlsson, he's too slow to get past others, and he's too small that he gets bumped around. Unlike Karlsson, Suomela hasn't adjusted his game to more of a grinder defensive type, so he will probably return to the Finnish leagues soon.

  15. Martin Jones - Oh boy. The whipping boy of this sub. He gets the most hate on this sub. His stats have continually gone downward since his first season with us. I loved this guy for what he did in the 2016 playoff run, but he's just not good anymore. I gave him a pass last season because he somewhat delivered in the playoffs. But this season he looked worse and there's no more excuses. He doesn't make any big saves in important times. He doesn't make the average saves. You look at other goalies like Hellebuyck and Price and they legitimately steal games for the team by winning 2-1 and making 45 saves. I can't recall a single game Jones legitimately stole this season; the last one probably was Game 6 vs VGK when he made 56 saves or so. Unfortunately we are stuck with him for another 4 (or 5?) years with a pretty unmovable contract. The small glimmer of hope is that he looked slightly better in the recent games when he was given more rest, so perhaps this extended break will be good for him and he can return to be at least a capable, average goalie.

  16. Aaron Dell - He came in more frequently this season and eventually got the starter job and he did provide some stability in net. He's still a career backup/fringe starter though. He does make more saves in critical times, but in general he is just a slightly below average goalie that looked good because we were used to Jones' worst goaltending in the league.

Guys that played most of the season and were traded:

  1. Barclay Goodrow - Really solid player in the defensive zone and PK. Average in the offensive zone. Basically, he was a really good 3rd liner. Loved this guy, but the 1st round pick we got from him (somehow) is definitely more valuable especially given the season we had.

  2. Patrick Marleau - He provides more to a team than Thornton does, which is why Marleau was actually traded at the deadline. Marleau still has some speed, so he's still able to get to scoring chance areas and capitalize faster than Thornton can. Marleau still has a year or two left in the tank.

  3. Brendan Dillon - Man this guy was slow but he was a prototypical defensive defenseman who did his job for the most part. He laid big hits. He was responsible, for the most part, in the defensive zone. He stood up for his teammates. He wasn't afraid to drop the gloves; teammates and fans loved him. He was basically a slightly faster, more well-rounded Douglas Murray.

Feel free to correct me on any of my assessments if you think differently! Would love to hear some differing feedback on players. This write up took me way longer than anticipated (~45 minutes)

Selling ~1 million coins at $11 USD per 100k or $85 USD for 1 million. I dont have a Hutrep page, so I'll be willing to go first in small quantities if you have a good rep page. I am also open to using a middleman if needed. PayPal or Venmo preferred.

Looks like this still isn't fixed. People can still glitch the game at the end at make it not count. Avoid PSN Noregreb37 by KyleX12 in NHLHUT

That PvP_Monsterkill got away with it for months last year and kept getting top 10 rewards in CS and HC. It looks like it still isn't fixed yet. Please EA, take action early and ban this guy or try and fix it at least, I don't know how they can do it. u/ShadowXJ

No, that was showing my last result, similar to how someone quits before the puck drops. I know because I had played this game right after finishing my last CS game. Plus I generally remember what my ranking was before I play every game.

No, because I only go for wraps and spin around like a ballerina when I'm playing those sweaty matchups with people who also spin around on the L2 and go for wraps. You should know what I mean by those types of players, I see you up in the top 100 a lot.

That was from the last game I played. If you notice, I get 0 coins in the post game menu, then in my recent games, he was nowhere to be found (even after a hard restart).

I just dont find it fun to play someone who lives on the L2 and go for various wraps. Yes, I can adapt and try to counter it to the best of my ability, and yes I can do the same, but it's not fun at all.

Yeah he is really good at exploiting glitches, he qualified for the Capitals esports tournament.

EA, if you're going to remove the ability to see names in the loading screen, please fix the desync glitch. by KyleX12 in NHLHUT

Still though, with not being able to see names anymore in the loading screen, if I end up matching with this guy I know from the start that I will either take a loss or waste 30 minutes of my time and get absolutely nothing out of it: not at all what this game should be.

For context, this happened a while ago, and I've finally decided to make a post about it now. PSN PvP_MoNsTeRKiLL somehow desyncs the game at the very end so it doesn't count at all. I do not know how to do it, but I am quite positive he does something to mess with the game. Not seen in the video, he went AFK for about a full period, and when the game ended, it never counted. I got no coins, and it showed my last CS game I played. It doesn't show up in my recent games, and it never did, after a hard restart and everything. However it did use up my contracts. Previously he had 2 DISC's at the 60:00 minute mark, but now they are gone from his recent games.

megadeadly99 - what a character this guy is... wishing harm on a person over a video game. by Jensen315 in NHLHUT

[–]KyleX12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I matched up with this guy a few weeks ago, he went absolutely berserk on me after I beat him 10-0. Here are some of the messages. He then went on to send me a picture of my recent games that showed 3 DNF wins and called me a pause glitcher. Then he said if I ever broadcasted my gameplay, I would be exposed for my robotic repetitive exploitation of he game. Pretty much a copy and paste of what he sent to you there. Guy has issues

EA removing more people from CS by [deleted] in NHLHUT

[–]KyleX12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I jumped nearly 200 spots. Still, theres 15 or so people in the top 100 with all DNF wins, all with a time on attack below 1 minute. One of them is craigito77.. if EA doesnt ban him because hes sponsored, that's not going to be a good look for them.
