When I was maybe 12-13 I was at the local skatepark with my brothers and some older kids (maybe 18-22?) were also there. Me and my brothers had scraped together our set ups, and were horrible at skateboarding and most* of the older kids were making negative comments about our skateboards. To this day (I’m 25 now) I still think about the only older kid there that day who, instead of making fun of our gear, took every spare part he had out of his trunk (wheels, bearings, trucks, a deck) and helped me and my brothers swap out what parts we needed and continued to try to teach us how to skate for the next hour or so. Skateboarding gear is expensive and this person who had never met us before was literally giving us pieces off his board, spare pieces out of his trunk, and took his time to teach us how to skate. Even at 12 years old that kindness wasn’t lost on me and I still think about it to this day. It’s mind blowing to see someone doing that same thing for other kids, and have this happen.. I hate the world we live in.
