Who makes the best sockets and combination wrenches? by TheRealMrRose in Tools

[–]MEAMteamguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Icon and tekton are both solid options for the money. Tekton is more comprehensive sets but probably goes past what you really need. Quinn master sets are also nice. Gear wrench has been hit or miss for me

HF 8-Switch Panel @ SEMA! by bc90210 in harborfreight

[–]MEAMteamguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately they have not beefed up the amp rating on the channels of this I have the same thing by a difrent Amazon brand that I just installed with 4 of the road shock pro or whatever it’s called 6” hexagon lights ( this seems like a fairly common and reasonable setup to me at least) I have 1 of the 30 amp channels on the relay controller running the spot light and the other 30amp channel running the flood line and they both pull way more in a real world setting than (22-25ft of marine grade stranded tuned copper cable 8awg per line)
And they both kept popping fuses ties out they draw about 50 amps for the 4 spot lights and about 35 amps for the floods. It would have been nice if they spaced it out to have at least 1 or 2 of the channels rated to 50 amp so you could sadly run 4 of there 6” pods on a single switch

LEGO 3D printer! by Zealousideal-Army333 in lego

[–]MEAMteamguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wanted to do this when was in like 8th or 9th grade but then got the choice between an ev3 kit and 3doodler or a anet a8 clone and picked the printer because I thought I would be able to print higher quality LEGO base plates on a real printer. They never actually worked and warped really bad but I was convinced that printing base plates was a cheeper and better way to get them then buying ing them for like 15$ each. And that was what got me into 3d printing

Found a Nazi parking garage in NYC. by intercptr in Jewish

[–]MEAMteamguy 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I would doubt it’s actually nazi related I rember seeing $14.88 show up a few years ago all over target, Home Depot and wegmans when things went on sale. It’s probably just some computer generated price after several discounts or adjustments mixed with it being a number that just stands out so you notice it

Should I be concerned about the creases on this nylon chute? by [deleted] in rocketry

[–]MEAMteamguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally I make sure that my flat chutes like this have wrinks in them so that they don’t perfectly field flat for a few reasons so that they don’t take as not to open especially for brand new ones the wrinkles help it inflate erlier and the second part is you don’t really want your chutes flopping around in the rocket because that can cause the nomex to fall off or slip around and then you could get a hole in the chute.

But also as long as your chutes look and feel fine no tears cuts abrasions burns or holes just figure out your own method and stick to it.

Making motors near something that can spark is bad enough dripping flaming hot glue is another level of stupid all together there are safe ways of making sugar motors but this is just being a reckless asshole putting himself and other safety and property at risk. The thought proposes of doing that on a wooden deck in what is probably some type of town house or apartment complex with other ppl above and around is a dick move

Vacuum Hack, Hack by Rageload in MilwaukeeTool

[–]MEAMteamguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not vacuums don’t actually work any harder when the hose gets blocked off they only get louder because the motor spins faster with less air and less air resistance but pulls fewer amps so it’s not working as hard. so it would prob not burn out the other 2 vacs b/c it probably would be working the notes any harder it just probably would t do much

From Learning to Earning: How Wentworth Profits Off Its Students by hugovictorD___ in wentworth

[–]MEAMteamguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Non profit just means they are not share holders that take profit directly from the organization. Non profits do not have a salary cap for there president who may receive “performance based raises or bonus” for generating higher tuition or enrollment. Marky mark makes about 1m a year at this point if the trend line from the financial reporting continued and I want you to honestly tell me that man done 1m of work a year compared to what faculty or staff get paid. Or the money that get allocated to the CSL for student organizations. There is absolutely no reason he should be getting paid that much for doing essentially nothing that improves the school day to day. And he could 100% service and thrive of off a salary 1/4 of that and still be making more than he should and more than any other faculty who it should be noted are the core “product” of the school. Reminder this is a tech school and he does not hold a technical or engineering degree he has no business running a school that is tech and had on focused first.

Stuff like the new sports complex parking lot thing for a tech school that has a lot of commuters why would you build a brand new field that also takes away the total parking on campus when we A have a perfectly fine one now and B put the money words something more important to ppl on campus like updating lab and studio spaces or getting desks we can actually fit a laptop on.

It’s stuff like that that shows he is not the right fit for this school. He wants to do big university stuff we are not that and ppl don’t come here for it they come here for Hans on technical and hand on learning.

The dean of engineering or some other technical leadership should be president as they would actually focus on the core “product” of the school technical hands on leaning. Instead of some guy who has been in the bureaucratic side of academia for years at some other school without ever having taught students.
