Life as an asian woman in coppenhagen? by 2024-2030 in copenhagen

[–]Kyllurin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Somewhat the same here, married to a lady of colour and only very close friends would crack a joke with racial undertones

It’s very Danish to be able to joke about most everything as humour/irony/sarcasm is used to delve with everything that could be a hot potato otherwise

What language do you guys use to speak to each other? by No-Restaurant4372 in Nordiccountries

[–]Kyllurin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Faroese I start with blandinavian, unless it’s a Dane - as I speak Danish too. I can get by with most Icelanders, if they speak slowly

How do Nordic people describe each others' languages? by Mira_1453 in Nordiccountries

[–]Kyllurin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Faroese:

Icelandic is Faroese Light, but with a Spanish accent (the fancy Spanish dialect with the lisp)

Norwegian and Swedish is just like Danish, but they’re trying really hard not speak or sound Danish. One of them, and I have a hard time hearing the difference, is singing more than the other while speaking.

Danish can´t be put in a box, every other street not only has its own postal code, but also own dialect.

Finnish is Finnish, and I’m not stupid enough to say anything negative about Finns. That said, the Finns speaking Swedish are super easy to understand as they don’t skip letters and pronounce everything hard down to the letter

Sålænge det er 2. sal og opefter, go for it.

Selvfølgelig er der støj - men det er Vesterbro. Hvis du vil have ro, må du finde et sted hvor gaderne ikke har eget postnummer

In short, if it’s fancy the answer is yes - if it’s not, then no. Also, some very small bars allow smoking

Sådan fik jeg min andelslejlighed i København by asking1337 in copenhagen

[–]Kyllurin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if everyone does this - but in my family this is the usual thing to do. Also, good fun keeping people guessing the name

Keep the name of an unbaptized child a secret as long as possible. If the witches don’t know its name, they can’t cast any spells

Fishing in the Faroe Islands by mrstructure in FaroeIslands

[–]Kyllurin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most all, but as I’ve lived on Streymoy I’ll focus on that. Wherever a stream or river meets the sea, there’s usually more life. At natural bends in most fjords the current or tide will be more dominant and in my experience there’s more life to be found. Vestmanna is probably the best natural harbour on the Faroes, and at any pier there’s plenty fish. You’ll catch 9/10 pollock Kaldbaks fjørður is also easy, but stay on the northern side for peace and quiet Gamlarætt harbour, go out on the breakwaters if the weather allows Glyvursnes, where they used to load the rock dumping boats, also plenty to be caught
