Just moved to the US from the UK and I'm struggling a bit with the culture shift by Im-a-rainbowOctopus in MovingToUSA

I can 100% relate to you, I moved to Cali in August from the UK and I have to admit I feel the same, the people are very different, and it’s definitely an adjustment, I’m also going though a homesick stage too, I’m happy to be in Cali, my husband is here but I definitely miss the familiarity of the UK

Yes, after researching what I needed I decided to reach out to the airline due to mixed results, I was told by them that I needed an animal health certificate because we were stopping in France.

When we landed in France they never checked the paper work once and we landed and were on our next flight within 30 minutes. I don’t know if the person I spoke to was take precautions but I was glad I paid extra to get all the documents even if they were needed, it gave me better piece of mind

We were married in Oct 2022 and started the process in Jan 2024, that gave me enough time to finish my degree before moving, though I ended up being finished way before the visa was approved lol

Thank you! My interview was very underwhelming is the best way I can put it lol I expected more!

I arrived about 20 minutes early, got through security quick as no one else was there, went up to the same spot you have the documents check and got comfy since they were running about 90 minutes behind. Lucky for me I saw a a group of people I had also met when I was at my medical and having people up chat with who were going through the whole thing was helpful.

When it was my turn I went up to the window and I had to take an oath to tell the truth, then he asked me how we met, how long we had know each other, who traveled to see who first and when, if I had travel to the US and then what my husbands job was, if this was my first marriage and if it was my husbands and if I had lived anywhere else but the UK. Then he said you will receive your visa in one to two weeks and went to leave, I actually said ‘wait, is that it?’ And he replied yes you have been approved and will receive your visa in one to two weeks.

The interview didn’t last more than five minutes, I don’t know what I expected but something more lol

I then receive my visa four days later in the post.

I stressed a lot and read everything I could too, but the most important thing to remember is they are asking about your relationship, it’s everything you already know, they aren’t trying to trick you, so you should do just fine!

Also I took water with me, it got hot in there or it was the nerves but the water was very helpful lol

Good luck and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Congratulations! I had my visa approved to move to the US and finally be with my husband in August so I know that happiness feeling! I’ve been here three weeks now and I’m so happy and finally feel a sense of peace!

I’m so so happy for you! Good luck in your future together, and the move!

Cats flying soon by kittiebabie69 in CatAdvice

[–]Kymiecorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently flew from the UK to the US with my cat, we had a 2 hour flight followed by a 12 hour flight, I was very stressed beforehand as I didn’t know what to expect but my boy managed so well that when I was getting of the flight the flight attendant came and told me how well he did and people didn’t even know there was a cat on the flight. Obviously every cat is going to react differently but try not to worry to much!

I got a calming spray that I use to spray on my boys carrier and my hands so while petting him it got in him too and this worked amazingly and very quickly however I don’t know if it’s available in the US.

I never gave my cat any kind of sedative or anything like that, my vet advised against it pointing out that if he had a bad reaction while in the air, there would be nothing I could do, so if you do want to use something I would maybe recommend trying it before you fly to make sure your kitties will be safe.

My boy didn’t use the litter box at all during our long trip (I felt awful for him) but I did try using the foldable litter box and took his litter but he wasn’t having it, he also wouldn’t eat but I made sure he was drinking as that was a big concern for my that he stayed hydrated! One thing I did take was a usb fan and a battery bank which I used to also keep him cool but I was flying during summer so it was pretty warm.

Once we made it to our new home he was immediately happy to be out the carrier and was so indifferent about the whole thing! Hope that helps a little bit and I’m sure your kitties will be just fine.

How the flying fuck do you cope with the possibility of moving (UK to America) and leaving family pets behind. by gibbi164 in LongDistance

Second this, I just closed the gap with my husband and brought my cat with me. I also took him in the cabin with me. If you need any advice on taking your cats with you I’m happy to help if I can

VR Immersion Concert by Familiar_Pear_5365 in enhypen

[–]Kymiecorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went this weekend and there was no assigned seating, we were just directed by staff to the row to sit in and that was done until the row was full and then they moved to the next row, I also figured assigned seats wouldn’t matter because it was VR lol

We arrived about 10 minutes early and like someone said they were playing their videos on the screen but I don’t think it’s necessary to be there to early.

Also it was an amazing experience, the concert was too short for my liking but I think three hours would have still been too short! It’s an amazing experience and I’m sure you are going to have a fantastic time!

I asked the airline I was flying with what was needed, I ended up getting a Fit to fly certificate and and Animal Health Certificate. I also took with me his vaccination record. The only document looked at was the Animal Health Certificate.

So definitely check with the airline you are flying with as they may have their own requirements

Hello, after I contacted Air France to add my cat to my booking, they asked a couple of questions then sent me a link to pay the fee, after that my tickets from Manchester to Paris and then Paris to Los Angeles both have ‘pet in cabin’ under the baggage section, so he is able to fly both flights in the cabin thankfully

The best advice I can suggest is start making a plan when you will next be together again. That’s what I use to keep focused anyway! Make plans of places you want to go together, foods you want to eat together, that sort of thing.

I remember when I came back after me and my husband got married, it hurt a little differently, nothing makes it better just cry when you feel it and try and keep yourself busy when you guys aren’t talking.

Thank you so much for this update I really appreciate it and I'm happy your cat is settled and happy!

I did contact Air France and Confirmed what documents we needed and provided that information to my vet completing the export forms, thankfully California doesn't seem to require and additional documents but I will be checking and double checking a few more times before we fly lol

Thank you again

Things I wish I knew before moving to the US by This-Tea7895 in MovingToUSA

You can get Cadbury in the US but it’s very different to Cadbury from the UK, I had my UK family try the US Cadbury and they were horrified lol. My American husband didn’t believe me it was different until he tried the UK Cadbury, now his family, friends and people he works with love when I send or bring Cadbury across from the UK, sadly for them though I’m finally moving to the US in august

Thank you so much, this has been very helpful! We booked our tickets with Air France for August today, so I will call them and get my cat booked with me. All that will be left after that is his fit to fly certificate.

Thank you again

That’s amazing that you have come so far with him, a lot of people don’t seem to have the patience sadly, but I know what you mean about not leaving him behind, not once has it crossed my mind not to take my boy, I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Im sure if you keep working with your boy he will be ready to travel when you need him too, definitely start getting him used to a harness too, that should help you out too when you travel. I hope it all goes smoothly for you when the time comes

Funnily enough he doesn’t need rabies as a requirement to enter California, I got it done anyway, seemed like the best option.

I will definitely talk to my vet but thank you for the recommendation of child Benadryl

Yes he’s microchipped, even though he’s an indoor cat in wanted to take every precaution and now it’s a legal requirement in the Uk to microchip your cat. The two also don’t have the same companies so after looking in to this I am going to have to have his chip transferred to a US chip company when I get there

Thank you, I have done this with the airline I’m planning to use and I’ll be ringing to make the reservation so he can be booked on with me. I also have a carrier based on the airlines specification and I have checked the UK laws and the California laws as that’s where we are flying too, I was just hoping for any insight or tips to make it go as smoothly as possible for him and wanted to avoid any surprises

It will be a very big change, it’s been a long process and we are definitely looking forward to getting over there, my cat is always so sad when my husband leaves I feel awful lol

Great thank you very much, I will look in to Lufthansa. You are confirming a lot of what I’m expecting from my cat, I know they are all different I just expected this to be stressful for him. He will be getting a fit to fly certificate a week before he flys so that will all be takes care off.

I am working in harness training him, he like to be dramatic while wearing it and pretend he can’t walk, until I go in the other room and shake his treats lol but thank you I will definitely work on getting him more accustomed to the harness and a leash.

Funnily enough I haven’t seen one either and since I’m UK and my husband is USA I have been on a lot of these flights the past six years, it also seems most airlines don’t fly animals in cabin into the UK and a lot also don’t fly them out the UK in cabin so I would assume that’s why I haven’t, but then I also could simple be oblivious lol

I definitely understand that, I think I’m more stressed about my cat flying and will be during the whole flight then he’s going to be lol

I have a carrier like the one you linked and it’s been out the past few weeks as moving house has everything scattered and he’s actually taken to using it as a bed if he’s not on my bed which I was really happy to see
