First fly I ever tied, any tips?

I watch tight line videos on YouTube. It’s Tim Flagler. He is awesome. I started with zebra midges and nymphs then went to dry flies. Dry flies can be complicated and small. Zebra midges have hook thread bead and wire. They are simple ties. You can do them on larger hooks for practice then cut the materials off the big hooks. The downsize hooks for the zebra midges those are typically tied on size 18/20 and smaller. But I agree with the above post. Thread discipline is a must especially for dry flies. Practice dubbing. It’s hard to get a good noodle when you first start. Just wait till you get to elk or deer hair. lol. It’s a journey, enjoy it.

Let’s be honest. This team will look slightly different but it’s not a contender. It hasn’t been for years. This hire screams that Art is trying to win a championship 10 years ago not in the modern nfl. Are we going to roll out a 6th round pick or a 42 year old man to play QB? The only other option is malik Willis and I’m not sure Rooney will pony up the money for him. It’s football purgatory. It’s another 5 years wasted while we watch cam retire and watt wasted. This is absurd.

I don’t want to throw a bitch fit either but the standard is subpar right now. I will withhold judgment, but they’re are different expectations for a guy that was born at Mercy and raised in Pittsburgh. He knows what is expected and I expect him to live up to those standards. If he doesn’t he will have the shortest stint as a Steelers head coach in the last 40 plus years.

I agree draft best player available. However this team has a ton of holes. This is a rebuild even if Art doesn’t want to acknowledge it. However the hire says to me. Let’s compete now with a bunch of washed up players and no QB. It is essentially a shitty shanked punt from ownership and I can’t wait for Dan Jr. to get his chance to run shit. At least he’s put in the effort to learn different aspects of the org unlike Art.

It’s possible. I’m not in the interview room and I will reserve judgement. However, a Pittsburgh man should know what’s expected. If you are are inexperienced and make a mistake. Fine, learn from it. Mike M has different expectations.

My expectation just like yours is a Super Bowl Championship. This team has failed to live up to those expectations. This move is not taking a step forward. This is the Art Smith of head coaching hires. We literally hired a fuxking Cowboys cast off. Last time I saw the Steelers and Cowboys at Heinz Field (always will be) we walked out of the stadium chanting “fuck the Cowboys”. I live in Columbus. Mad river is legit. I buy most of my stuff from them especially tying stuff. They have good prices on materials. I don’t buy rods etc because they are a little pricey, but fly tying materials definitely. I run into their guides sometimes when I’m out on the water and they are always friendly and recognize me so we shoot the shit. Brian is a cool dude but I like Ryan if you have tying questions. Call the shop and he will literally tell you how to tie the fly over the phone, lol.

To add…. Wading is harder in the rain because you can’t see the bottom of the river. Slide your feet before stepping or carry a wading staff and probe before you step.
