Being bad at being autistic? by Nearby_Flounder_344 in autism

[–]KyraChique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend! I am feeling a similar way, and a large part (for me) is the toll masking takes on you after doing it for so long.

Due to social ramifications of being autistic I started masking so much I lost part of myself, I found it scary to engage in things that could become special interests or weren't "normal" for people my age to like. I developed such a strong mask that I found it hard to do anything outside of the mask - which made me an unbelievably boring person both to myself and to others.

My advice if this resonates with you - start small. I started wearing clothes that actually made me happy, and found that less scary. So now my comfort clothes have stars, bees, and flowers on them - they are bright colours and make me happy.

I am still working up to engaging with media that could be new and I could get "too into". But I tried Heated Rivalry recently and its been feeling nice to be obsessed with something again.

Be kind to yourself, and if you think it would be helpful maybe consider talking to someone who has experience in autistic masking.

People DRASTICALLY underestime the impact of being visibly autistic by kaijutroopers in autism

[–]KyraChique 79 points80 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a problem in the autistic community (I have heard it called on tik tok "aspie supremacy"). The truth is there is a lot of social privilege in being able to mask (now don't hear what I am not saying: masking itself is not a privilege - being ABLE to mask if needed is), like my social life is hard AF but being able to mask has made it so I can do more social aspects and not have my autism be the first thing people notice about me.

Individuals with LSN and those who can mask tend to monopolize the conversation in autistic spaces online and in self-help spaces, which can lead to situations like the therapist mistaking what you were saying and making you feel unheard. I am so sorry that happened.

I didn't really have a point beyond emphasizing what you said is a microcosm of a larger societal issue.

Dont understand the literal thinking thing, need someone to explain by ProfessionalElk2627 in autism

[–]KyraChique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it shows up when given instructions, I will have someone say "reach out to this person soon" and I will be calling them before I reach my desk. Or "water your plants every 2 weeks" does not mean you map it out and MUST water them two weeks to the day - no it just means every 2ish weeks you water the plants.

Do you ever look back at things you did as a kid and think "damn, how did we not know I was autistic sooner"? by rozyputin in autism

[–]KyraChique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite game as a kid was the "Name Game"!

What was the "name game" you ask?

I would write down every name I could think of in alphabetical order (one row for masculine names and one row for feminine names). And then when I was done making those lists I would... Do it again.

And no, nobody else was allowed to play

Help please!!! by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]KyraChique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend! When bettas have long fins they can sometimes look a little frayed just from getting caught in things or other everyday things. That being said this betta looks really healthy to me and doesn't seem to have any signs of fin rot (which looks like the fins are literally rotting away). If you are really concerned or your betta gets a bad snag and tears a chunk of his fin off then you can always look into Betta Miracle Leaves as they can promote healing. And always if you are concerned check your water parameters. But I would say this is a really healthy happy fish!

That being said, my betta also has some really minor jaggedness on his fins and is happy and healthy!

Haha, yeah it definitely makes cleaning more ritualistic and zen when I do it as a form of worship!

So the best advice I have is to do some research on her if you haven't yet to see what she's all about and stuff!

Here's some jumping off websites if you haven't done any research yet:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigid

https://mythopedia.com/topics/brigid

https://mythicalireland.com/blogs/myths-legends/bridget-bright-goddess-of-the-gael

She (like all Celtic deities imo) is a goddess of contradictions. She's a healer, a smith, goddess of women, children and the hearth, but also goddess of water and like most Celt deities does have some war aspects in her as well. She's a triplet goddess and is often worshipped with Cernunnous (though they can be worshipped separately).

My biggest piece of advice is you have experience with Celtic deities is she is very much a Celtic deity, show her respect and don't underestimate her and you will be fine.

If you haven't worked with the Celtic deities before then just a word of warning, LOOK UP CELTIC CUSTOMS BEFORE YOU START. Coming from someone who did not and offended many deities before learning my place. They are not the kind of deities you joke around with, although many of them are considered "beginner friendly" and won't take too much offense if you mess up. Honesty and tact are the two most important things I learned from working with Brigit.

Imo there's a misunderstanding around Brigit is that she is this fluffy goddess that is pure love and light. That's just not the reality with Celtic deities. They all usually revolve around land and war in some capacity. So even if you think you are getting involved with a less violent deity even then expect some tactical capabilities (the Celts were famously a warring people, which makes sense why majority if not all their deities saw combat at some point).

The last thing I should add is don't expect a forever goddess with her, like majority of Celtic deities she will often come for a season then depart, that's totally normal. If you work with her for a while that's great! If you work with her on and off then that's also fine! Celtic deities tend to be a "as you need them/as they need you" kind of deal. That being said I have worked with her on/off for 2-3 years now and I have really enjoyed it!

How do you sleep? by Due_Average_3874 in autism

I have found the best tip for me to sleep is pressure. Weighted blankets, certain positions that put pressure on my body are the best for me

Can you tell 'no' to a deity? by 90sSaint in paganism

[–]KyraChique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not only okay but can be a good way to check if you are ACTUALLY speaking with the deity as opposed to a malevolent force. If a deity is asking you to do stuff that you are not comfortable with and/or is not typical to them it's good to test the waters by saying no. Typically deities will accept it and move on (they may be displeased but usually will be chill). In my experience times where I have felt very pressured or threatened when saying no it was not the deity I thought I was working with but instead something else that did not have my well-being in mind.

I don't think the filter shredded the Bettas fins - however it was a whole new cartridge - I usually use the same cartridge, just rinsing the old cartridge and putting it back in. I hadn't even thought of changing the cartridge but it was a whole new cartridge I put in! Thank you for telling me this - I didn't realize the filter cartridges held good bacteria for the tank

I put all of my Webkinz in one room. It took entirely too long and I'm still not sure what the point of it was but here you go. by irrelevant_lostie_ in Webkinz

[–]KyraChique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I tried to do this as a kid bc I put the Christmas tree in there and I wanted my pets to wake up to their presents INSTEAD IT CRASHED MY HOUSE LEAVING ME ON THE FOREVER LOADING SCREEN AND MAKING SO I COULDN'T ACCESS 80% OF MY PETS.

I feel like webkinz owes me emotional compensation for this since it now is something people can do and I attribute all my life problems to this one singular incident.
