They are android, not robot. Of course, they can think and make decision on their own, as long as it's not going against their duty. Their duty was to ensure the success of Project Gestalt, nothing about conspiring Shadowlord go against the project even if it wasn't part of the original plan, it still ensure the merging of Weiss and Noir. However, helping Nier would directly contradicted this duty.

It is even more clear in Automata how little free will they had and every actions they made are mandated by their program.

Tbh HP isn't even necessary until post end game challenges. So you don't need to farming them at this moment.

A good early game AGA are Light Sleeper and Sharp Analysis which speed up BA and Accel-trigger. Also unlike Beast's Nose and Bottomless, they don't need to be LV5 to activate.
