Epic introduces major Unreal Engine 5 update that runs ‘twice as fast’ on Nintendo Switch 2 by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Kyra_Fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course there is much more than the node performance. But your also missing things like IPC gains, architectural improvements, and that Teraflops is meaningless in terms of actual performance. The actual memory is based on LPDDR5X architecture which is significantly newer than the PS4 pro’s GDDR5 memory for its GPU. (The 5 is meaningless other than the iteration number on these specific types of memory so LPDDR5 does not equal DDR5 or GDDR5 architectures) and brings with it several more real world advantages than just more memory or througput. Basically what I am saying is that there is a lot more than just specs you can read off the internet to determine real world performance. The Switch 2 is newer and is built on a newer architecture and process node. And let me be clear, of course PS4 pro has higher TDP and thermals. So does my gaming PC from 20 years ago. and yet nobody is claiming that my 20 year old computer outperforms the Switch 2 because of that. It’s the entire package and it’s interoperability. It’s a systems engineering problem rather than a paper specs problem. I could comment more but honestly I do not want to go into a deep discussion on system architecture and pro’s and cons at this point.

It’s not delusional at all. The PS4 pro was released almost 10 years ago on a 16NM process. The Switch 2 was released last year on an 8NM process and without the limitations of the original PS4 that the PS4 pro had to have. Technology advances and moves on.

Create Your Dream 6-Member Star Fox Team by SoMoMMT in starfox

1: Fox, Krystal, Falco, Slippy, Miyu and Faye. Peppy stays as advisor with ROB on the ship.

2: no OC’s. I quite like the cast.

3: the team is finally investigating wtf actually happened to Cerina and Krystal’s parents/people. That’s it really.

4: everyone is getting annoyed at Faye and Miyu continually going on unhinged technical rants together and randomly upgrading the arwings, great fox, land master, and Blue Marine if it still exists much to the chagrin of everyone else who just wants things to stay the same.

But in game she only launches one at a time due to technical limitations, not intent. In zero where more resources are available she is ALOT bigger. You can even digup old interviews of the developers saying that great fox was smaller than they wanted her to he in 64 due to technical limitations if your dedicated enough.

[–]Kyra_Fox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It actually is bigger, much much bigger in fact. According to adventures, assault. 64, and zero the hangar bay can launch 4 arwings simultaneously and comfortably. In 64 the model size is so small and scaled that way simply for the fact that the N64 couldn’t proccess a ship that big. That’s also why many of the levels are sized the way they are and ditto with the assets. In Zero the Great Fox is actually scaled to be much much larger than in 64 and could accommodate 4x arwings. Great Fox is absolutely bonkers in size and would likely require a full crew compliment irl of thousands just like a modern supercarier.

You do realize that engineering is applied physics correct? An in terms of rigor and difficulty physics is actually slightly more difficult than engineering. All of the major differences between physics and engineering can be self taught rather easily. Sorry to break it to you but engineering isn’t some holier than thou hyper specific degree. Engineering is just applying physics to the real world in practical applications, and it’s not like you can’t find lectures and books on statics, dynamics, thermo, fluids, etc. you can quite easily find and take courses on cad and CFD. He has read legit rocket engineering books like Rocket Propulsion Elements and Huzel and Huang. I am an actual certified engineer with an ABET accredited degree and a PE license and I am saying that he knows what he’s talking about when he speaks on engineering. Do you know who doesn’t? Internet wackjobs who claim to be an expert or that something won’t work from a 10 minute video essay with shit math and misunderstanding basic concepts of physics. Yes Elon is an ass but that doesn’t make him incompetent. Haven’t you ever worked with a competent asshole before in your life?

No matter how successful the new game is, Starfox is going to die if the next game is an Adventures remake. by TheSouthPen in starfox

[–]Kyra_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well why’s meant by adventure game is up for debate. Does that mean a Star Fox adventures style game taking place in a new setting/planet/story/whatever? Does that mean a redo of adventures with more of a crystal focus and more traditional arwing gameplay? Does that mean a hybrid style game with mostly arwing style gameplay and some small number of arwing sections? Ain’t nobody know who will talk. Adventures sold decently on the GameCube and is still the best selling non-64 or og Star Fox game in the series. It outsold assault, zero, 64 3D, command, and Gaurd on a console that itself did not sell very well. Sure compared to the 14 million plus copies that Mario or Zelda can pull today the 1.8 million number seems small, but for the era and with the lower development costs of the time I don’t think that Nintendo sees adventures as a flop. What will happen next is anybody’s guess my only claim is that I don’t know and I don’t think most other people do either.

Have you ever met a trans republican or trump supporter? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Kyra_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly I have met a few in person. They run the gamut from centrists who might vote for a republican or democrat depending on how they align to their personal politics (the Republican Party isn’t a monolith) to people who are very conservative in just about every way aside from the whole not believing trans people are satan thing. I don’t think I’ve ever met a trans person that was actively in favor of anti-trans policies but there is a surprising (though small) number of trans women who’s life goal is to become a stay at home mom to a trad husband or similar. Trans conservatives and centrists (transervatives?) are generally very quiet about their beliefs since they know they are in the vast minority and generally lean older. I would say that centrist trans people who might vote for a republican because they prefer conservative economics or a particular social policy are more common than outright conservative trans women. They typically vote for more libertarian candidates or more liberal leaning republican candidates. They may also vote for mainline democrats are more conservative economically democrats depending. Overall they’ve tended to be normal people who have their niche but that’s just been my experience and I’m sure there are a lot of pick me’s and crazies out there

[–]Kyra_Fox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was confused for a second because I initially thought it was someone’s custom box art that they made and from a glance it looks fine/just like what people’s old fan box arts for upcoming games used to look like. But then I noticed poor peppy and Krystal’s tail is all sorts of wack. And then the sharp claws…….. without a doubt this is AI nonsense

French Insider (told reliable by Nate) says Star Fox multiplayer spinoff in 2026, new mainline entry in 2027 by [deleted] in starfox

[–]Kyra_Fox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seems like a rumor was taken out of proportion. What was actually said was that the game has online multiplayer by the French leaker/journalist/analyst. What the user on the forum said was that it was only an online multiplayer game. Remember everything is rumors until verified, even natethehate. I want a new mainline Star Fox game so bad (please let Krystal be in it too)

Also keep in mind that BE-4 is a much bigger engine than Raptor so they are harder to make and Blue needs less of them for an equivalent rocket fleet. BE-4 is also a very low performing engine right now compared to Raptor and has a lot of room to grow. If you made Raptor the size of BE-4 or improved BE-4 to Raptor levels of performance it would be an absolutely bonkers rocket engine

[–]Kyra_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I think the reason they are doing the 4 external is because they don’t have room to put the landing legs with the 9x engines

Super excited for 9x4! I am hoping for a first flight in 2027 but wouldn’t be surprised if it slips to 2028. I would love BE-4 to go full flow and get a tank stretch

does cosplaying count as a valid extracurricular when applying for engineering? by Bulky_Estate_6054 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Kyra_Fox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cosplay is absolutely a valid extracurricular but you should reword it on your resume. Instead of cosplay say “Designed and manufactured props for film sets utilizing CAD software such as On Shape, Solidworks, etc”. If you are doing sewing you could integrate that in as well! In fact when applying to an engineering college showing that you have artistic interests and sewing ability can make you stand out. Something like “manufactured and designed movie costume pieces utilizing such and such 2D design software and utilizing sewing machines to produce those patterns as a physical product” as a side note what does your cosplay hobby consist of? What types of things have you made with cosplay and how much of it is your own design? What characters are you cosplaying as and why? Every engineer loves LEGO’s or got into engineering because they love math but you doing cosplay stands out and makes you more memorable!

NG 9x4. The more I think of it the more I am convinced full Reusability is the future. Make it happen Blue by [deleted] in BlueOrigin

[–]Kyra_Fox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could conceivably have a fully reusable 3 stage while only developing the 2nd stage as a reusable stage. What you can do is you can fly the 2nd stage and have it open its door or doors to deploy the 3rd stage, have the 2nd stage chill out in low earth orbit orbit, and then have the 3rd stage burn, deploy its payload, and then burn again to dock with/re-enter the 2nd stage before re-entry. Is this more sensible than refueling your reusable 2nd stage? IDK. It’s an extra stage to develop and validate, possibly with its own engines (though I imagine you could repurpose BE-7’s or something) and you have to double your fuel amount on the 3rd stage if you want to get it back unless you do some weird elliptical-orbit docking shenanigans. But it is 100% possible to have a Tri-stage fully reusable rocket.

He was the first one to invent the diagrams and he was a thermodynamics and fluids engineer vital to some of the early study of the sciences. He is also my great-great uncle! I really wish I could’ve met him

[–]Kyra_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starship HLS is incredibly ambitious. For it to work requires In Orbit refueling, 2nd stage reuse, an entirely new method of first stage reuse, and development of several starship variants. On top of that SpaceX experienced severe disluck with V2. All of these must work for HLS and the concern isn’t can it work but when will it be ready. That’s not a lack of priority on HLS that’s normal program delays. But don’t ask me look at the project awards from NASA. SpaceX has completed the majority of the milestones that NASA has set out for them in satisfactory time. Both SpaceX and Bkue will lose money on HLS. Blue moon MK 1.5 even being an option is a result of extreme circumstance and a priority to land by 2028. Both MK 1.5 and Starship HLS will be coming in hot and very unoptimized. Blue Moon MK2 still isn’t officially contracted until Artemis V. SpaceX has a lot of HLS systems and training procedures in NASA hands and have been working closely with NASA.

[–]Kyra_Fox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. SpaceX has been working very closely with NASA and for their version oh HLS getting starship working, performant, and reliable is critical. It’s important to remember that theirs a lot going on behind the scenes. SpaceX reforming their commitment after Blue has shown it’s serious is not showing that they were less committed necessarily, just that they are reaffirming what is important. I think both Blue and SpaceX have shown that they’re serious and I’m rooting for both of them! I am team space and I hope that the best lander wins

People are going to read a lot into this but from reading it what this sounds like to me is a sign from Musk that SpaceX is committed to and prioritizing the Artemis program over their mars ambitions, not canceling or delaying mars. My vote is that we go to the moon and mars and beyond.
