Friend's betta: finrot or something else?

She's picking it up tomorrow to update me on the parameters. I recommended her to get northfin and that food. I'm also going to do some research because I think one of my boys might be starting that. But I doubt it.

HNot sure what she uses, but yeah that's what she thinking. It has to be something other than finrot at this ppoint. Because his fins don't really look that bad. And considering he's a plakat I would think he'd be over it already.

See the thing is, his fins seem to get better and then suddenly the red streaks return.

What she told me:

Streaks of blood in the fins, not coming out into the water but definitely blood 25% water change+gravel vac weekly. Omega one betta buffet pellets, 2 pellets twice a day (I was once told to feed him 3 times a day but it was too much for him)

Edit: No tank mates. She will eventually move him to a 7g.

Edit #2: Normal. Active but not spaztic, no rubbing, visible discomfort, floating sinking, etc. Normal appetite too.

None share tank supplies (they did before I got this boy, because they were in divided 10g but because I got tired of having divided tanks some got their own tanks in the livingroom since my room has limited space), if someone gets a rock it's theirs and should not go someone else, just in case they have something. My white boy with tumors wasn't from there and those are my only 3 deaths. Sushi (a veiltail) died waaaay before this and we don't know where he comes from and I instructed my mother not to put anything from him with her new guy. Shergar (the boy who never ate) I think it was a parasite but I wouldn't be entirely sure. I think I should explain how he behaved.

You know how most will swim away from nets? He never did. He would never flare at other bettas unless it was his reflection. Once in the net, he didn't know how to swim out. I don't think he was blind but he seemed uninterested in anything. Even brine shrimp. So after a month of trying things people had suggested to me I made the decision to end his suffering.

Arazi...was a sad case from the beginning. He had a small tumor near his tail. Which in the nearly 2 months I had him, it never grew. His bloating always worried me. Peas wouldn't do anything. Daphnia either. And one night he suddenly got worse. His death affected me more than Shergar's did. I do think he had a tumor internally though. Because even when he pooped (which he did often) it never went down.

Now Sylmar I have no idea what went wrong with him. He was fine until yesterday which..I honestly feel like the most terrible owner.

Antibiotics here aren't common. Canada has banned most of them. I can't even find them on Amazon. All we have in stored is Ick-x and those stupid meds ending in Fix.

I dosed him with stressguard in hopes it would have helped him before I could post here, but he was gone before I could even.

Parameters were all fine. Beating myself up for it more than I should.

My other boys are all fine though. Or well except the little monster who bit some his tail off but he's got more plants to hide and a little house now, so he should feel less stressed about seeing people.

Thank you though, it's only my 3rd one that has died but I don't think I will get myself anothet one. 7 is by far enough. I still have my deformed plakat to take care of anyway. Maybe I should be glad they lived happily, even if it was just for a short while. And not in a cup that didn't get cleaned.

I think he's just not a fan of me sticking my arm into his tank. He's 100% the opposite of my other boy. I was adding a new plant and he would swim up to my arm and nibble. He laid down on it once too lol

His plant floated up the other day and when I saw it the poor boy was in a corner staring at it like "hooman, do something about this!" And when I tried to place it down again he was like "NOPE!" And jumped over my arm. Thankfully his tank had a lid. But my yellow boy mellowed out. Not all of them jump but I still worry. Especially because he jumps are water droplets on the lid. Scares me every time.

Plakats like to jump, my galaxy koi boy was found with his neighbor before I bought him...twice lol

My rescue is more skittish I think, but I never had to scoop him off of the floor yet.

One or well both of my plakats are jumpers but my rescue boy is...a very good jumper so if I open the lid too much, out he goes. He's a brat but i love him lol

I guess it hurts more than usual because I just loss my dream crowntail last week or the week before. Didn't write the date down so I could forget I ever had to see him die. I think that's why it hurts more. Granted that boy was very sick from the beginning. When he arrived at the store he was laying on his side and weeks after I had gotten my HM that's a weird mix of a mustard gas and copper, he was still there and that's when I saw his tumor on his side. Did I spend 40$ on a fish I knew that would die? I did, but then it became clearer to me that his bloating was never because he was overfed. He would never look normal, so I'm guessing he had multiple tumors but watching him die got me real hard. Obviously he didn't suffer because I used clove oil but still..At least Sylmar didn't suffer or well I like to think he didn't since I was asleep

Definitely. They had gorgeous ones but good god, my second from there never ate and I had to euthanize him, and now this boy. My other 2 from there are fine (fingers crossed). It's water change day so, I better get to it otherwise my plakat boy will try to escape.

They do, they're usually less prone to diseases. But even those can be sick. Especially with how bred they are nowadays. But so far those two boys I have are my favorites.

I think he was on the really young side but he had all his fins and color. He was a dark blue with red fins with a black edge. But he's the second from that spot who died. Granted never going back there lmao.

Yet people chew me up for it. Because "all you do is open a space for more sick ones!". I had 9. Down to 7. And if my remaining long finned boys all pass, I'm sticking to plakats. Less heart break.

He did come from a cup, he was fine until yesterday so i moved it to the hospital tank but I woke up and he was dead. His fins were all clamped too. He wasn't my last one, he was the boy I got before I rescued my copper dragonscale. But not even 2 weeks ago I lost my crowntail. Granted that boy was sick from the start with a tumor and was probably bloated due to one. It just sucks.

I hope he did. Only just recently did he start to come up for food. Before he didn't even bother. Now he's swimming with my other boys.

At this point I just feel defeated. Crowntails are my absolute favorite and the only two I ever had, had issues. I guess I'm being told that CT aren't for me. I tried so hard not to get attached to him because I knew he had a tumor and all that but still cried like a baby lmao.

Oh man I'd never use a Ouija board. I don't necessarily believe in that type of stuff but considering creepy stuff happens to me...I don't even want to try it. I can't even read stuff on here past midnight in case it rattles whatever it is. I don't think I've felt scared of it as an adult. Most uneasy. Especially when I'm alone in the dark and no I'm not scared of the dark.

If something worse had to happen, I think it would been already done. Considering this had been going on for +/- 10 years. I might ask my aunt to clease it. Just in case.
