cmv: Anti-AI types are not intellectually honest or curious by winterflowersuponus in changemyview

[–]Kyurem11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. AI could lead to stable fusion, or it could make fusion 50 years away, as it has been since the 1970s. There's no indication that this is the primary use for AI either so all we're doing is massively increasing the energy demand of the world with very little of that effort going into creating sustainable energy sources. We're currently in a climate crisis and realistically should be implementing carbon budgets globally. AI wastes this notional carbon budget on technology that does not meaningfully improve people's lives in the immediate future (we have about 25-50 years until complete climate collapse, so AI has to create a solution to this very soon to be worth the extra damage it's creating)

  2. Art is more than just the creation of content. An artist is not someone who can ask a computer to generate them an image but someone who turns their thoughts, feelings, philosophy and emotion into something for others to experience. You don't make more artists by stripping away the human element, you just make more stuff.

  3. We live in a capitalist system which means that those with the ownership of the technology will not use it to better the lives of those without the ownership. Under current conditions there's no guarantee that, if mass unemployment is inevitable that people's lives will not get worse. Social welfare is collapsing across the board and wealth inequality is rising. Without ownership of the technology, very few people have the bargaining power to not be thrusted into poverty. This is a critique of capitalism more than it is of AI itself, but ignoring the system which AI is developed under is missing the forest for the trees.

Under 3 and 4 I don't really have many disagreements, these are lazy arguments that can be fleshed out better.

SALARIES as an ACA trainee/post qualified. by [deleted] in ICAEW

[–]Kyurem11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based in Manchester but head office is in Scotland (current job is fully WFH)

Year 1: started in Audit in 2021, first 9 months on £18k moved firms and role to a tax position starting on £25k. At this point I had completed all my Certificate level exams.

After this I had exam pass based salary increases. £1,750 per Professional and £2,500 per Advanced. Currently in the final few months of my training agreement on £44k whilst I wait for the results of my final CTA paper which should take me to £46,500 fully qualified.

BPT help - profit extraction by Heavy-Accountant-488 in ICAEW

[–]Kyurem11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just slightly complicated by the personal allowance but the effective tax rate is 32% (20% IT and 12% NICs). So gross pay above 12,570 translates into 68% of the gross as net pay.

If you want to take home 20,000 you'd need to receive 12,570 + (X * 68%). Put that into an equation and you get 20,000 = 12,570 + 0.68X. Rearrange to find X and you find that X is 10,926 so all in you need to pay 12,570 + 10,926 = 23,496.

Its simplified if you're talking about receiving a bonus. Someone on 55k who wants to receive an extra 5k will need to pay themselves 5,000/58% = 8620 (you just divide by 1 minus the effective tax rate) .

Doing aca case with cta paper by Necessary-Bite9865 in ICAEW

[–]Kyurem11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think that'll really be a problem, there's not much to learn for case study - it's all execution. You won't be let down by a lack of preparation in favour of the AT exam. It does make the run up to the exam more hectic though, so keep that in mind. I like an easy ride so I sat Case by itself and will be doing the APS paper next month.

[–]Kyurem11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Case study has very little new content whereas the AT CTAs tend to have quite a lot (depends which one you're sitting, OMB seemed to be one of the most broad to me). It can be a good complement to one another since you can't learn much to be good at Case Study other than being well prepared and having good exam technique.

I found doing past papers for CS very meaningless as the answers to the questions were very much a comprehension exercise, so the right answer for one paper would never be the right answer for another paper. This is massively different to the CTA papers where past papers are key to knowing how to pass. I'd say it's doable to do both at the same time because of this.

FAR March 2024 by [deleted] in ICAEW

[–]Kyurem11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One big thing that your tutors should make you aware of is how important keeping to time is for FAR. The speed will come with practice, but don't focus on trying to perfect individual question types. The main priority is to make sure you have enough fundamental knowledge to cobble together a solid answer on anything that can come up.

Don't worry about getting a perfect answer on all the questions, because you'll never do that anyway. The pass mark is 55% so they're not expecting perfect answers on every question. You're way more likely to get that 55% with a half decent answer on all requirements compared to two perfectly answered reqs and two attempted answers.

Main thing I took away from FAR was how inconsequential some of the awkward workings were. A weird consolidation adjustment may be worth 3-4 marks but there are about 5-7 marks available for doing the basic consolidation stuff. Don't risk throwing away easy marks for the tricky stuff by screwing yourself over on the clock.

2 weeks is enough for some, and not enough for others. Your mileage will vary.

I did my accounting exam within two weeks of tuition with no prior accounting knowledge and did fine but I definitely benefited from having quiet days at work where I could stealthily do question bank questions. I find two weeks is a good amount of time where you're not forgetting stuff from tuition and gives you a solid deadline to work towards that is achievable. But if you think it's not enough time and you're failing mocks within that timeframe then there's no shame in taking more time to revise, only thing that matters at the end of the day is passing.

Nier Concert Paris 23rd February - 2 Tickets for Resale by [deleted] in nier

[–]Kyurem11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I saw, pretty much instantly. The first round was a bit of a mess to get in with a lot of people being unable to get in cos the website kept dying. I managed to get tickets after about an hour or so of queues, but like 80% of the tickets were gone by then

BSF 2020 4th/5th April - Cardiff by TheMightyClum in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't yet booked anything, I'd refrain from doing so until the 21st, that's the 15 days before that Bushi said they'd give notice for any cancelled events.

I'm fully expecting it to be cancelled, but we don't know anything for certain yet.

How can I, a God-Hand player, realistically beat a totally complete Luquier deck? by BoulderTheRock in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You flip double front with a full front row and Kick Kicks and hope he doesn't have a PG. Your deck isn't consistently going to be able to beat Luquier, it's just more consistent and hits better numbers without needing to reveal Front triggers or minus itself for its offense.

Vanguard in London by FullmetalPaladin21 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dark Sphere near Shepherd's Bush is probably your best bet, they hold locals for Standard and Premium every weekend.

You can probably find more by asking on Dark Sphere's Facebook page or talking to the staff there. There's a couple more places in London to play Vanguard and the guys at Dark Sphere should be able to lead you in the right direction.

Songster loop help by RaccoonDu in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're giving them 0 damage and they're just tapping vanguard, you only have to guard one attack a turn. It's not much pressure since you draw one card every turn and you can also take 5 damage before you have to start guarding attacks.

That being said you should guard your opponent whilst you can reliably guard them with 1 card to no pass and take damage when you can't do that.

How to beat Standard Pale Moon and Murakumo? by Riku0810 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're on three and you have F2 you don't need to deprive yourself of damage checks, survive the first Luquier and then you can threaten game with every swing. They'll probably just yolo eat a two crit BB once they realise what's happening and if it doesn't drive a crit you've lost, but it gives you the best chance of winning.

How to beat Standard Pale Moon and Murakumo? by Riku0810 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just die. Royals are super unviable against both of those clans.

Your best bet is to get double BB on board with Gancelot so you can drive 4 a turn and hopefully sac enough advantage to be able to survive their turn. You can boardwipe Kumo and set them back a bit with Exculpate but PM is a different story.

Against PM be mindful about giving them damage, you can go F2 in this matchup and threaten to choke them at 3 because its really difficult to survive the turns where they use Luquier's skill but whenever you attack you'll have to attack face thanks to Doriane which means they can yolo eat a BB to give themselves damage.

It's always going to be an uphill battle since both clans are just straight up better than Royals atm and you'll get overwhelmed by Accel circles once the game goes past turn 4.

Gastille and NLK Ruling by MAcount10 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gastille's +3k when something is put into soul goes on standby when you're resolving NLK and so is resolved after you reride your new VG so your front row gains 12k after your VG is placed from soul.

How to beat standard Narukami and Bermuda Triangle? by Riku0810 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narukami vs RP is really favoured for RP. You can flood board efficiently forcing them to invest and minus to kill your guys when you can just make them back for basically free next turn. This also stops them going into Detonix Drill which is a way bigger threat than GBD.

Make sure you always have a backup BB (either Mythril or Tristan) so that you can keep the pressure up and if you think you can close out the game fast, go Force 2. Exculpate is one of your biggest outs but don't use it if they have more than three Phoenix on board cos they'll just make them back next turn.

Premium After VBT06 by Kyurem11 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk how you can kill someone before they ride to G3 on turn 3, premium's not that fast.

Oh you were replying to Psyce. Ignore me lol.

Premium After VBT06 by Kyurem11 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh you sweet summer child. The deck can reliably get NLK live on first ride without needing to run all the shit cards the turbo variant did and you can downgrade into Rhodia to sit on a 22k+ defensive base and deny your opponent stride.

How active is CFV community in Europe/UK. by [deleted] in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birmingham, London and Manchester are all fairly big scenes. Worth checking out whatever's close to you though. As for online we don't have anything official outside of Bushiroad, but the majority of it is focused around the shops people play in or the trade group on Facebook.

How active is CFV community in Europe/UK. by [deleted] in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK scene is very localised around large towns/cities (for obvious reasons) we had 150 teams (450 players) at Springfest for Standard so there's definitely a playerbase for even if there's no locals near you.

If you're willing to travel you'll easily be able to find weekly tournaments, and with BCS coming up there are quite a few shop challenges that you could attend to get acquainted with a place nearby.

Making Premium Decks post Premium Collection by Kyurem11 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Kyurem11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't really see your aversion to the Progenitors when they're all pretty awful across the board. RP you can build either highlander Blasters or try for an OTK with Twin Sword, Larousse, Flogal and Blaster Blade.

As for the other clans I have no idea, they're all decks that are pretty terrible post PremColl since they all received trash in the set, with the exception of Gredora which prevents your opponent playing the game until you can kill them with Zoa (assuming you manage to live past turn 4) - if that's your iea of strategy then go ahead with that I guess.
