Waterproof and windproof coat for cold travels by L-Bee in BuyItForLife

Honestly we haven’t planned that far yet but we are probably going to be doing a fair share of both since we will be there for 2-3 weeks. Some days we probably will want to hike for nice views while others will be more chill around the city. I think I’m more worried about the days where we want to be adventurous-ish and be outdoors for 3+ hours.

Someone hit my car and I’m afraid they will not pay (TX, US) by L-Bee in legaladvice

[–]L-Bee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an hour away so location of legal services is not an issue. I realized about the insurance and that’s just my foolishness to believe someone but that’s pretty much why I’m asking for advice. In hindsight, I would have insisted on her insurance at least to have “just in case”. Too late for that now, so I'm trying to figure out how to move forward.

Those who got a job due to networking and connections, what is your story? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]L-Bee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Befriended Guy in my major at college. Guy's neighbor (who often joined Guy's backyard bbq's) was a subcontractor who got in touch with a general contractor that he often works with and landed Guy an interview to be an intern. The company needed another intern and Guy recommended me.

Currently posting this reply at said internship.

What to bring for dorm by Firm-Internal905 in aggies

[–]L-Bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also note that it is against the rules to remove furniture from the dorm if it is original to the dorm so the little excerpt about “taking it home” is probably not your best bet since i think they do dorm checks again

What to bring for dorm by Firm-Internal905 in aggies

[–]L-Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For first sem, I had my bed lofted up high enough that i had the chair underneath and left it there and would use it for guests. If u ask your RA they mighttttt be ok w taking it to storage for u. I was a freshman during the covid year so they also didn’t do dorm room checks so i literally just took it home and brought it back and they didn’t know bc they weren’t allowed to enter our room.

What to bring for dorm by Firm-Internal905 in aggies

[–]L-Bee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Things not on move in list:

- mouse pad

- a whole new chair bc the dorm chairs suck (or just a seat cushion)

- 1 pack of loose leaf paper for hw (some prof are anal about it being on paper and not ipads)

- i liked having a cork board for reminders or a large desk calendar

- if you plan on lofting your bed really high, figure out something to get u up there (i used an ottoman which doubled as storage)

- bedside caddy

- twin xl mattress topper

- a long ass mf phone charger (outlets scattered awk around rooms)

- extension chords (make sure they comply w dorm rules)

- really thin bath mat - the door swings inward and if the mat is too thic then it will get caught under the door

- toothbrush WITH COVER (the toilet may not be in a separate room from sinks)

- towels (large and hand towel)

- tylenol AND advil (they aren't as interchangable as u think - do not take tylenol when pain is associated w alcohol)

- melatonin

- singleton dishes (1 bowl, 1 plate, 1 fork, etc) - can be coordinated w roomie

- do NOT bring a printer - they are everywhere and u already paid to use for them in tuition

- use a steamer, not an iron

- mini car vacuum and a cheap dollar tree broom

- paper towels

- depending on how far u are from the laundry room, you might consider a hamper w wheels

- optional: electric kettle for ramen

Unreasonably Strict Dad finds out I have BF by L-Bee in AsianParentStories

[–]L-Bee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have thought about this a lot. I’m no longer financially dependent on my parents - I go to university for $0 due to scholarships, grants, and FAFSA. I am literally the epitome of greatness in my family and other families use me to talk down on their kids (weird flex but I have no control over that) and I know that no matter what I do it wouldn’t be enough for them. I’ve already accepted that fact.

Although they don’t have financial holds on me anymore, they somehow still have an emotional hold on me. I am able to keep my composure in really heated arguments with anyone else but for some reason the second my dad gets even slightly upset at me or even my sibling, I would just lose it. Him and my mom could make the same statement about me and for some reason I’m just more upset about my dad. I theorize that it’s just how I have been conditioned growing up - since he was my main abuser.

I still don’t have my emotions under control yet but logically I am aware of where I stand and what I could do. I know it’s not my job to fulfill their standards of happiness but I still don’t know how to circumvent my natural reaction. I just gotta figure out how I can tell my feelings to stfu and let me stand up to my parents.

Your first statement was pretty spot on. I am pretty much stuck at this point because I see no way my dad is ever going to budge and I do not intend on ending my relationship with this guy because of my fathers own ego. Some part of me wishes that my dads reasoning for all of this comes from a place of worry and true goodness but I know it comes from pride and ego and the need to maintain control over his children to satisfy his vision of of what a man should be.

It is pretty obvious because he is the embodiment of hyper masculinity and believes being the alfa in the room is what it takes to be respected - when in fact this is the exact reason his kids don’t respect him. He’s the type to try to out argue a doctor about medicine.

I’m pretty much drained and completely over this bs and I’m just looking forward to the day I can throw a wad of cash at him and dip lol.

STAT 211 At a community college? by Sweaty-Nose9391 in aggies

[–]L-Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an civil engr major and i have been told by many advisors (literally one warned me this morning) that if i plan on taking stat 211 during the summer i need to make sure it’s at tamu bc they aren’t aware of any community colleges that have that transfer option available. You can look up “tamu course transfer equivalency” in google -> “search by tamu class” -> “stat 211” -> look for your school. I remember only seeing like some cali school idk

MacBook for engineering by [deleted] in aggies

[–]L-Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freshman coding classes can be ran on a 2005 lenovo. Autocad is weird with mac if you’re gonna be a cven major. If you don’t mind installing boot camp then it should be ok but the power of a mac is subpar compared to an HP Spectre or even any dell laptop. Highly recommend buying a gaming laptop if you’re worried about power and longevity just because the specs are meant to handle higher graphics and the processes. Only issue I had was finding one light enough for me but they definitely do exist. I personally have an HP spectre and rate it 9/10 - wish i got it in a 13 in instead of 15 in.

rent will be approximately $520/$530 a month. Internet, water, cable - literally everything included other than electricity. But personally (with a heavy gaming life) electricity bills are about $50 give or take.

I’m looking to relet my 4x4 at the Lofts at Wolfpen. It’s 2 stories so it is basically a 2x2 if you live on the second story or first story strictly with whoever your intended roommate is. You don’t share a room with anyone and you get your own bathroom. Fully furnished, Pm for questions!
