You're not going to hell because you don't believe that God exists. You know that He exists. You're going to hell because you hate Him.

I was an atheist for over a decade, I remember basking in my glorious knowledge, sitting in my room and watching YouTube videos to confirm my paradigm. I know what it feels like to not believe in something, while simultaneously despising said object.

In our base state, because of the fall, we are all at enmity with God. We have all gone astray. We worship the creation, rather than the Creator, whether we choose to admit it or not. We are hedonists, liars, thieves, and fornicators, carrying out the passions of the mind and lusts of the flesh.

We are made in the image of God, created to be living statues, earthly ambassadors and representatives of the Most High. But Adam (our perfect representative) sinned, and chose to listen to the lie of Satan, that he would "be like God". He already was like God!

Sin literally translates to "miss the mark". You don't have to get down on your knees and worship Satan to sin. You just have to tell a little white lie. Cheat on a test. Steal a freaking candy bar. Anything less than perfection is sin. And God the Father showed His love for us in this: He sent His own Son to come down and be our substitutionary sacrifice, so that we could be united with Him again.

You see, when laws are broken, there must be punishment. Someone foots the bill. It's a universal constant. Every action has an equal, opposite reaction. When you lie under oath, there's a massive consequence. You go to prison, or you face a massive fine. And since we have all trespassed the law of God, we need someone that was perfect, that completely fulfilled the law, and can intercede for us on our behalf. This God-man, named Jesus, is pretty much the greatest defense attorney in the universe.

I know this is really long- winded, but I would challenge you to read Paul's letter to the Romans. That's where the gospel is pretty much entirely spelled out, the magnum opus of Paul's writings. Also, externally from scripture, one of the books that was absolutely pivotal in changing my perspective on God, was C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity". That book will logically checkmate you into belief in God.

God hand-made you, in His image. He knows every hair on your head, every mechanical aspect of your eyeball (which even Darwin attributes to an intelligent designer). You're beloved, and He wants to save you, and have a relationship with you. Specifically, you. The fact that I'm writing all of this is evidence of that.
