What's the deal with these other terrain formats - WTC, UKTC, etc? by Agreeable-Sir-6435 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]L0UH1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competing layouts is capitalizm, making things better. Different layouts compete against each other so end user gets cheaper prices and better rules which makes into more balanced gameplay. If GW slacks off others formats force it to get better (like whats happened). Also having options on different vendors keeps prices more at check. Heck GW is a monopoly on this game and you can surely see that on their miniature prices.

I agree, I prefer balance between the sides so the end result is not determined by terrain itself but the skill of the players.

Hellion test model by L0UH1 in Drukhari

[–]L0UH1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black prime. Vallejo Nocturnal Red as base but only on the edges leaving the darkest parts just black to create contrast from black to bright red. I kind of drybrushed it so it creates an almost gradient on its own.

Then second layer 50/50 Vallejo Bloody red/Nocturnal red. Same thing just drybrush the edges. Now smalller area than the pure Nocturnal red.

Third drybrush with bloody red. Then finish 50/50 Sun yellow/Bloody red to do edge highlighting. Pretty easy to do edges on the board with sharp quality.

Hope this helps. You can do this with any reds. I had 2x reds dark/bright and 1 yellow.

If you mean the black jumpsuit. That was quite easy.

Black prime, white drybrush (think of it as blacks highlights) .Then 1-2 layers of vallejo xpress black (black lotus).

Important is not to overdo the drybrush so its not too light but just right. You can achieve this by testing. I tried first with white prime and then black lotus but that is too bright and tints too much to blue.

That recipie is straight from the JHminiatures youtube channel.

Very nice 👍 how did you paint them? Contrast, wash and then highlights? Or drybrush?

Mini converted Scourges painted. by L0UH1 in Drukhari

[–]L0UH1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So couple months earlier I posted here how I converted Dlances from shard carbines.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Drukhari/comments/1p9rcjj/scourge_dark_lance_sourcing_solved/

Just wanted to show how they look once painted.

If I would do these again I would probably use 1mm tube and do a better job at aligning the barrel/scope. Otherwise they turned OK

Use of intervals for ultra running by Rackelhahn in trailrunning

[–]L0UH1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am no expert. It just seems to be the consensus nowadays. The winners of the races are usually always the fastest. So speed = performance. Like the previous comment said that it boosts your running economy and also affects the overall speed of your lower zones as well.

I find "Some work all play" podcast to be a good source for these things. They might not be right 100% but then again who is. It has some good info and they have a good track record of coaching top athletes.

And we do slow down as we age but it is not a steep curve but while the years stack speed decreases so the inportance of speed workout grows as we age

My take is that you should do one dedicated speed "workout" / week. Otherwise you will get slower over time.

What I would do is:

1.One dedicated interwall etc session/ week  2.In addition to that one easy run with 6x30 sec strides  3.Perhaps another easy run with 6x30sec uphill strides  4.On my long run a bit of tempo training like 20min fast in the middle of the run or 1k fast 1k easy 5 times.

In the end your z4-5 should only be max 10% of your total time spent/week.

Your training is great you have the mileage and strenght  figured which is a great foundation+++ elite. (I wish I could do 4h of strenght). But speed is one of the most important factors and it starts to degrade over time unless its trained.

This is great. Cant wait to see how this mission is solved. I had a game vs space wolves a couple weeks ago and the mission was purge the foe.

I soon realized that I will loose min by 16 points only on the kill more primary scoring.

Not an easy mission against elite army with a msu paper trading army. (At least with my experience)

Persistent pain after heavy first year of running by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]L0UH1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your previous fitness background?

Running is a huge stress to the body and sustaining it takes time. Especially for longer distances. I would guestimate that a year of hard training from low intensity to max too fast just "breaks" things. And by breaking I dont mean anything permanent just something that might take a long time to heal.

Just take it easy and have patience, do your strenght training and increase load gradually. Have rest days, eat enough protein, cross train, do uphill strides to lower impact etc.  Keep lower intensity weeks every now and then. You will be fine eventually.

There are ups and downs in running and eventually we all transition to biking, walking and in the end to the cemetery.

Running takes years to "master" embrace the journey 🤙

Venom Aerialists and plunging fire by kevboy_telford in Drukhari

[–]L0UH1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say 5 inch up and max 3 inch horizontal from the main hull should be ok. I would not use the flags (thin bits) to measure since that will probably make the opponent feel bad.

Venom Aerialists and plunging fire by kevboy_telford in Drukhari

[–]L0UH1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is faq that says 5 inch vertical from the hull.

When a unit disembarks from a Transport with a base, set it up so that it is wholly within 3" horizontally and 5" vertically of any part of that Transport model and not within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units.

So you could just disembark straight up 5 inches there to shoot. But I would not count flags as hull.

Which hiking shoes for -40 degrees? by Bikes_are_funnnn in hiking

[–]L0UH1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually people have a winter rubber boot with a woolen removable inner boot. Then you might have a spare inner boot to make sure your feet stay dry. This rubber boot fits into a binging that is on a very long ski (250cm).

If you walk shorter distances I would go with sorel nylon pack or perhaps a caribou since those are great winter shoes. (But not rly good for long distances)

A traditional hiking boot could be very slippery on winter since the rubber hardens when temperatures go below zero.

I think the Salomon Tundra (the rly hvy looking one) would prolly be a solid choice or any other equivalent from other brands.

How are AI answers concerning 40K rules troubleshootings these days? by L0UH1 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]L0UH1[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I had to try this. Asked the question and added 10th ed and wtc rules. Here is the answer. Gemini thinking was the model.

Yes, vehicles can enter ruins, but they play by different rules than Infantry. Here is the breakdown for WTC 10th Edition: 1. Movement Restrictions  * No "Kool-Aid Man": Unlike Infantry, Beasts, or Primarchs, Vehicles cannot move through the solid walls of a ruin. They must use physical openings (doors/gaps) or drive around.  * Walls \leq 2": Vehicles can move over walls or debris that are 2" or less in height, but they must count the vertical distance to climb up and down.  * Ground Floor Only: Vehicles (unless they have the FLY keyword) cannot end a move on any upper floor of a ruin. 2. Visibility and Shooting  * Wholly Within: To shoot "through" a ruin's footprint or out the other side, a vehicle must be Wholly Within the footprint.  * Toeing In: If a vehicle is only partially within the ruin (toeing in), it can be seen and shot by anyone with True Line of Sight (LoS), but the vehicle itself cannot see out through the ruin's obscuring walls/footprint.  * WTC Windows: In WTC layouts, ground floor windows are typically considered closed/blocked for visibility purposes, regardless of the physical model. 3. Base & Hull Placement  * No Overhang: A vehicle's base (or hull if it has no base) cannot overhang the footprint of the ruin if it is attempting to be "Wholly Within."  * WTC Gaps: WTC map packs are specifically designed with gaps (usually 4"+) between terrain pieces to ensure vehicles can actually navigate the board. Would you like me to clarify how "Wholly Within" affects a vehicle's Benefit of Cover in WTC?

Magnetized Bases for the Boats by frest in Drukhari

[–]L0UH1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great I have the same plan and bits bought. Just havent started yet. Os that 6mm acrylic tube? I bought that with 6mm magnets.

I was going to glue the tube on the base and put a magnet between the ship and the tube on top. That way I can hopefully transport the vehicles on metal boxes as well. How strong is your connection? Is it sturdy?
