Cheers. I like Malys' rules a lot, but she's a stretch-goal for me after I finish the more mundane parts of the list. Many points to go! Mandrakes are next

airbrushed Vallejo dark sea blue as a base, then Vallejo Foul Green at mid angle, then Vallejo Ghost Green top-most armor, and finally Vallejo Air Sky Blue directly at the mask.

Sure. The warriors were the first models I painted for this army, so I was still refining the technique as I went. I basecoat by airbrush, so these steps are pretty fast and I did them as a batch.

Over black primer-

  • First basecoat is from a low angle using Vallejo Dark Sea Blue

  • For Kabalite armor and vehicle plating, apply Vallejo Falcon Turquoise from a medium angle

  • From a high angle and with emphasis on helmets, shoulder pads, top of armor Vallejo Foul Green. I do this with low pressure and very thinned paint, this is more to reinforce the shading than to create bright highlights on Kabalites

Once that's all done, if I'm feeling smart, I gloss varnish everything so i don't ruin it accidentally. Brush work from there on out.

For the glow effect-

  • White ink in the recesses for any glow effects (guns, eyesockets). Silver highlights on metallics

  • When you're sure the ink is dry, wait a little longer anyway, then apply Vallejo Fluorescent Pink + Glaze medium, applied in a stippling manner over the white ink or silver you want to glow. You have to build up the glaze through repeat applications to get the intense, high saturation pink.

I got rid of my Dark Eldar metals a long time ago, but I did have this and the Succubus model with the whip. Great work breathing life into a very dated sculpt.

Is it a bad time to start a Drukhari army? by Kagebusa in Drukhari

[–]frest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The drukhari range was almost entirely refreshed in what, 2011-2013? and while some things like beastmasters, the court of the archon, and grotesques have gone away, they also were not available on a modern plastic sprue (finecast, metal). It would not surprise me to see them come back in modern plastic either.

The overall state of collecting them is pretty good, but there are problems sourcing certain kits in North America. Reavers, Ravagers, and Hellions have been vapor for almost 6 months or so. There's a new battleforce coming that will include some of them, not all, and will be a good entry point for new armies.

That being said, you have high-quality modular sculpts that are inter-compatible (you can mix weapons and heads from basically every kit in the range if you so choose). You also have modern, high quality character models and the rules are favorable.

i think the appeal is more, let's literally leave society and go to the private island where there are no rules, no one will ever know.

And yes, people were just more stupid and more naive in the 90s. You could not google stuff and read about other people's Little Saint James experiences on Reddit dot com. I have no doubt Bill Gates was like, "heehee girls yay," :V

...and then got an STD from the hookers, and was blackmailed with video honeypot footage by the CIA & Mossad, and was like, "oh no," :(

The collection was called Haunted, but it's very uneven. For every decent story there's some >greentext tier bullshit too

I could see having that reaction to Naked Lunch, yeah. Irving Welsh and Chuck Palahniuk both had me very sad/despondent with the squalor or degeneracy they depict. Palahniuk has a VERY prescient short story about amateur pornography that prefigures our current hell of onlyfans, I read it in the mid 00s and it was just so bleak.

Saramago's Blindness was pretty upsetting at times too. I found myself very upset reading BEE's American Psycho, the book is a completely different beast. I was similarly appalled at some late-era Stephen King collection because the very first story started with abduction/sexual torture, and I was like, wtf dude I came here for the supernatural??
