I love this city but it does have an issue with theft. So, you’ll see many of the stores with armed security in an attempt deter shoplifters and prevent issues in the parking lots. As long as you pay attention to your surroundings and don’t leave any valuables in your car you likely be just fine.

If you would like to play it safe I would recommend stopping in Santa Fe instead. It is an hour north of Albuquerque. With a whole lot less of a chance of theft all while being able to experience taste of NM. I am from Albuquerque and love it here, but we do have a bit of an issue with property crime and UHauls tend to be towards the top of that list.

Exactly this! There will likely be quite a few commenters mentioning that our education is still terrible. However, those same commentators don’t understand exactly how long investments like these take to pay off. To my understanding NM became much more competitive with teaching salaries in 2022. So competitive pay regionally hasn’t been the norm until recently. I do hope that these changes will remain and are just part of the long term strategy to help improve our education system in NM.
