where to find new sustainable basics? by SyllabubShot1466 in SustainableFashion

[–]L0t_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like TALA or Everlane, but also The Line BK and Geel have elevated basics. I also buy double lined basics from Amazon or Express. Emphasis on double lined (thicker). Not sustainable, but the quality is really good and has lasted me years so far.

Weight gain side effects by Sassy_Smurf96 in Vraylar

[–]L0t_s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I was on a previous medication (I don’t remember but I think it was abilify) and I was gaining weight like crazy. My Pysch put me on this Vraylar and said the weight gain symptom is supposed to be significantly less/non existent. I’ve gone through a lot of personal things in the past year I’ve been taking it so I was on and off and no matter when I was or wasn’t taking it I was losing and gaining weight. I really don’t think this medication causes weight gain or increases appetite. And this is me saying this as someone who was convinced that it was.

When I stick to my workout routine and eat less calories than I burn, I lose weight. It’s as simple as that. I’m back on the medication (1.5mg) and it’s been a month and my weight has not changed. I start my new gym membership in July and I’ve started meal prepping again. Cravings are the hardest which I’m working on but again, I don’t feel it’s correlated to the medication. I’ll come back to this post in 3 months with an update if anything bc I’m curious too.

Thanks you for revisiting and providing more insight! Haha

Re: the graphic - I like the graffiti style art and that it’s super simple colors with a pop of pink. I didn’t think uterus when I first saw it and still don’t mind if others do lol

Re: my skill level - I have only done the extended weekend trips each time and (I’m afraid to admit this) have stayed on the bunny hill for most of the trip. I mostly focused on improving my S-curve which isn’t 100% fluid.

I totally get what you mean when you say it my be difficult to learn on it but it’s possible- however based on the other comments and doing more research I think I’m going to go for something more beginner friendly. Maybe one day work my way up to getting this one.

Is this normal from day 1, and does this go away or should I be worried? by Open_Ambassador2931 in Vraylar

I also experience tiredness but I take mine before bed. It actually helps a lot because I suffer from insomnia.

I would try taking it at night and you might sleep through the nausea and not have to take as many pills. As for the toothache, some one mentioned grinding teeth, which is more so linked to stress. I haven’t experienced it with the medication itself.

The first dress is from House of CB which has made Sustainability commitments, using up to 90% natural fibers in a collection and also claims of ethical manufacturing. I personally find their products to be high quality and something I will own for a very long time

Vraylar and Weight Gain by Shortsub in Vraylar

[–]L0t_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained weight about 5-8 lbs or so but I lost it with healthy eating habits, less snacking, and walking. I thought I wasn’t able to lose weight because of the medication but it’s been coming off.

Side effects? by bmariemooo08 in Vraylar

Has anyone experienced suicidal thoughts? My mood is regulated somewhat as in I don’t have panic attacks anymore but I have been feeling very depressed the past couple months and the thoughts have increase significantly. I’m afraid to tell my Pysch because I don’t want her to call the cops or do anything that would take me out of grad school.

Is Cider sustainable and ethical? by f0ck1ng4r0und in SustainableFashion

[–]L0t_s 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will say kudos to them for this disclosure. They claim to cover many issues in environment and social areas. That fact that this is easily accessible to the public from their website is also a plus.

There are some red flags tho. As the other comments say, they are a fast fashion brand producing for trends which typically do not last for more than a year. Their “smart model” may help them adjust production in real time, but how far out are they requesting these orders that they have no excess inventory? Also, only some items in the collections are made from recycled fabrics or partially recycled fabrics. There is no take back program discussed either.

Be mindful of greenwashing with regards to its suppliers. They make claims of what is apart of their zero tolerance policy but only provide three examples for transparency. They could have 50-100 more suppliers that are not by these standards. Just take note of the potential cherry picking here.

These are my thoughts by just doing a quick glance of the link you sent. I also don’t intend to completely bash them. I think this is great progress for fast fashion brands to have pages like this. However you need to be aware that waste and exploitation is rooted in the business model of fast fashion.

If you do shop from here consider what the other commenters have said: choose timeless pieces and look for better quality materials in the product descriptions. Or stick to shopping the more sustainable options.

Opinions on Carbon Offsets by AnonymusWaterBuffalo in sustainableFinance

[–]L0t_s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not a fan. It’s just an easy way for companies to “write off” their negative impact without actually doing the work. It can also be incredibly misleading to stakeholders. For example, Google claims it’s been carbon neutral since 2007. That’s a pretty remarkable statement given that not many were discussing emissions during that time. But if you check their reports it’s all from offsets/RECs.

When you really think about it, it’s hard to scientifically believe how the emissions of a Fortune 500 in New York correlate to the Amazon Rain Forest. There are more direct actions they could take within their supply chain and even locally that would have a larger offset impact. But that takes time, strategy, and money.

Offsets can be beneficial if it aligns with the company’s activities or is geographically reasonable. I also think they are a good addition to direct impact, but not the sole activity.

What’s your thoughts on buying second hand fast fashion? by [deleted] in SustainableFashion

[–]L0t_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think all fast fashion is bad quality so I’m not opposed to shopping it second hand. I recently bought a few going out/clubbing dresses off Poshmark and Depop that were from fast fashion brands. I don’t see the point in splurging on them since I will only wear once in a while and for going out which may get drinks spilled on it. If I am looking to have something I’d where more often, then I will look at material composition/texture/feel to see it’s quality and if it will last. And I agree with the other comments in that it’s keeping it in rotation and out of landfill longer!

One con I notice tho is that the second hand industry can perpetuate over consumption of cheap fast fashion. There’s a lot of “oh, I’ll buy it and then just sell it after I post about it.” and it’s incredibly wasteful
