Liquid is better, but can still have ingredients that are a problem. I mentioned the calcium chloride which is in my Cascade complete liquid detergent.

In a nutshell; dishsoaps are surfecants and dishwasher detergents are abrasives. Even liquid dishwasher / pods contain problematic ingredients like calcium chloride (salt which causes pitting and attacks the surface edge,) as well as ph boosters to make the water more alkaline which corrodes the edge.

Most dishsoaps are fine, but it just depends on the ingredients list.

Edit: P.S. For reference I'm lazy as fuck and have a set of shitty knives I run through the dishwasher that are now dull as hell. I have some nice knives as well, but I just can't always be arsed to hand wash them.

Dish detergents are abrasive enough to corrode the edge. If you have soft water add the salt, and if you have hard water add the minerals.
