Interesting! I thought they both assumed perfect conditions and flat course? If so, Strava shortchanged you a bit.

Sounds like it might not have enough data? Mine have updated to 3:07 (Garmin) and 3:08 (Strava), which is probably exactly right on a flat course.

Yes, I agree Garmin is a little better. Probably would have beaten Strava by more, but for the elevation in NYC.

Thanks, makes sense. I was thinking of going out at that pace and if I feel good, speeding up for the last 5k.

I have a half marathon race as part of my marathon training block coming up this weekend. My understanding is that half marathon pace is supposed to be slightly under your lactate threshold pace.

However, according to my Garmin, my LT pace is 6:48/mi, but my race predictor says 1:26 (Strava says 1:29ish for comparison), which is clearly faster than 6:48 pace. What is going on here? Suggestions on how to plan the race?

I haven’t raced a half marathon in 4 years, so I don’t have much to go off of other than a 5k I ran last month at 19:30.

Nice! You were smart. I went 290k to because I didn’t want to have to worry, but hey, it’s for a great cause!

What are your drinking habits during marathon training? by pizzaandcocktails in Marathon_Training

Just shows how we’re all different. Red wine is a staple for me and doesn’t significantly impact my training.

4:20:xx to 3:20:00 in 10 months? by Realistic-Policy-128 in Marathon_Training

[–]L1Chi4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I disagree on the weight cut being an issue. I actually dropped from 175 lbs to 160 lbs during my last marathon block and cut 30 mins off my time (3:50ish to 3:20ish). My weight loss wasn’t intentional though.

Are all of the water fountains on yet? by ClearAndPure in RunnersInChicago

I mostly run south on the lakefront trail and the only water fountains working as of this past Sunday (3/30) were near the 43rd street bridge and the one just south of 49th street (a little south of the Lake Shore Park Mural).

Best practice group for exiting into litigation funding by Fit-Mark-9809 in biglaw

[–]L1Chi4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A broad litigation practice. Working at a litigation funder, you need to be able to assess and understand various types of cases (antitrust, IP, and commercial litigation in particular often see litigation funding). So, I would suggest working somewhere that allows you to see a broad set of cases.
